CID Written Update: Shaatir Chor (8th August, 2015)

Scene 1

We see two men approaching each other discreetly on a road. The bearded one Shekhar instructs the other to go inside a house there and steal some item. The man observes the robust owner of the house emerging from inside and going for a jog, and remarks what a tough job it is. Shekhar points out the tight security measure around the house - guard, CCTV cameras - and asks if he's up to the task. The would-be thief tells him to get mithai in advance as he'll get the job done, and asks what the object is and what it looks like. Shekhar says the contents aren't his business but he'll be shown what the object looks like. He tells him to follow and the thief calls someone named Aditi.

Scene 2

Shekhar leads the thief into a room with a metal box which has a little glass window on top, and says the item he's supposed to be stealing is identical. He again refuses to tell what it contains. The thief says he needs assistance for the job to be done and assures Shekhar that his partner is trustworthy. A girl enters and the thief introduces her as his wife Aditi, who tells a smitten Shekhar his job will be done and asks when they'll get their payment. Shekhar says he'll pay them 5 lakhs that day, and the remaining 5 lakhs after he gets the item. Aditi finds the amount unsatisfactory but since her husband is contented, agrees. She shakes hands with Shekhar and says the theft will take about 2 weeks.

Scene 3

We see the owner of the house from Scene 1, Ramesh, lying dead soaked in blood on his bed. Daya sir, Pankaj, Jayawanti and Vansh are seen examining the corpse. Daya sir asks Pankaj to search the house and Jaya says the victim seems to have been fatally shot when resting. The maid and watchman explained that when Ramesh didn't answer their calls at 9:00 AM, they were worried and broke inside to find him dead. Pankaj says all the alarms in the house are working fine and none of the doors except the one the maid and watchman broke through are damaged. He also adds that no valuables were stolen from the house. Daya sir says there must be something of great value in there because of which Ramesh had arranged so much security in the place.

The watchman says they last saw Ramesh after he returned last night at 12:00 AM after dinner. Jaya suspects him and the maid, but they proclaim innocence. Daya sir asks the watchman if he fell asleep on duty as he heard no scream; the latter says he was awake and alert all the while. The cops re-check the body and Daya sir notices blood on Ramesh's heels. He wonders how this is possible when Ramesh was shot in the chest, and construes that the killer may have murdered him elsewhere and then put the body here. They search the house and Pankaj finds a faint blood trail leading in from another room. Jaya wonders why the killer dragged the body into the bedroom from there as he could've hidden it there itself. Daya sir says he/she might've intended to simply remove the body from there not to attract attention to the room, and it may contain something important. They search and Daya sir finds a hidden passage behind a bookshelf. Together they remove it and enter inside where the hidden room is seen ransacked. They wonder how the killer broke inside and what Ramesh had hidden there. They find several fake passports inside along with stamps of multiple countries, especially Thailand and Dubai. Jaya remarks that valuables are frequently smuggled in from those countries, and Ramesh was clearly a shady person. Daya sir construes there was some such valuable in this room, for which the killer broke inside. They collect the evidences and Pankaj finds a portion of wall hollow, inefficiently plastered. Daya sir breaks it and finds a hidden tunnel leading outside, and construes this is how the killer got in. They enter the tunnel.

Scene 4

We see Aditi and her husband Vijay packing their clothes. Aditi says the box they stole clearly contains something really valuable, and on top of it they had to kill Ramesh during the theft, all of which was much more trouble than the meagre 10 lakhs Shekhar is offering them. Vijay is hesitant about double-crossing Shekhar, but Aditi convinces him otherwise and produces a metal case identical to the one they stole, saying they'll swap the two and before Shekhar realizes he's got the fake one, they'll disappear.

Scene 5

Daya sir and the others emerge from the tunnel into one Balram sweets, whose owner was about to sell the shop, and blames him of the theft and murder. The man says he's just arrived and up till then the shop was occupied by tenants - a couple who had opened the sweets shop and left after it didn't prosper, and says they must've done it. He offers to provide their contact numbers, but Daya sir says they must surely be fake and orders the team to find out what cellphone numbers were active in that area the day before, and contact them to find out which belonged to the couple.

Scene 6

In the bureau, ACP sir and Daya sir discuss that there were 70 phones active in all and one of them belongs to Vijay. We see Freddy sir, Jaya and Pankaj calling all the numbers in question. ACP sir says Ramesh's house clearly had some secret/valuable for otherwise the couple could've killed him anywhere else. Jaya comes up saying they've tried all numbers except two which aren't being answered. They construe these are their quarry's numbers and trace them. One of them is found to be active at a factory just 15 minutes away.

Scene 7

The team enters the factory and finds Vijay there. He tries to escape doing some fancy acrobatics but is finally captured by Daya sir. On being questioned about Aditi, he says he'd come to meet her here as she said she'd bring the fake case, but now is missing. ACP sir sends Pankaj to look for her and demands Vijay to tell everything. Vijay explains about the contract they received and explains how he and Aditi hired the shop next to Ramesh's house and under the pretext of selling sweets, dug the tunnel to Ramesh's house every night. They then stole the metal box and shot Ramesh dead when he caught them red-handed, dragged his body into the bedroom and obscured the blood trail, then planned to betray Shekhar and escape with the real box. Now he's worried that Shekhar found out and harmed Aditi. Pankaj finds a pool of blood with a trail leading outside; Vijay is distressed thinking Shekhar has murdered her. ACP sir says it's a repercussion of their deeds and demands what they stole from Shekhar.

Scene 8

Pankaj and Jaya are seen with the box the couple had stolen from Ramesh. Salunkhe sir enters and tells ACP sir and Daya sir that the blood found at the factory contains Aditi's blood group and judging by its amount, it's unlikely that Aditi survived. Vijay starts crying and Daya sir asks Pankaj to take him aside. Freddy sir enters with an electric saw and cuts open the box, inside which they find gold biscuits worth crores. They construe Ramesh was an international gold smuggler, and Shekhar knew about it and enlisted the couple to help rob the gold; then he found out about Aditi planning to double-cross him and thus he killed her. Jaya shows that the diary they found in Ramesh's house contains a large list of contacts apparently involved with him in the dealing. Freddy sir wonders how they'll catch Shekhar now. ACP sir instructs them to lay out a trap for Shekhar - spread word that a shady dealer is selling gold biscuits in the secondary market; Shekhar will surely be convinced those are his biscuits and thus will emerge to retrieve them and exact revenge.

Scene 9

Daya sir is seen disguised as a secondary dealer and along with Vijay is holding an auction for the gold biscuits with several shady customers. Eventually one of them wins it and asks his cronies to check if the gold is authentic. Daya sir and Vijay lament that Shekhar didn't turn up as they planned. The winning buyer abruptly shouts that the gold biscuits at the bottom of the case are fake, and accuses them of treachery. Daya sir tries to hold them at bay but all the customers start advancing threateningly. At this point, Shekhar bursts into the room and opens fire. Daya sir retaliates and the rest of the team turns up to capture all the thugs.

All of them except Shekhar are taken away, Daya sir hands him a tight slap and accuses him of murdering Aditi. Shekhar says he had fallen in love with Aditi and it is Vijay who killed her, and he came here to avenge her. Vijay rubbishes his claims. Shekhar says Aditi had called him saying she's in love with him too and wishes to leave Vijay, but the latter has found out about this so she'll come to him with the stolen case and they'll escape together. Both men start blaming each other and ACP sir and Daya sir tell them that Aditi has betrayed both of them. She went to Vijay with the fake gold and staged her own death so that both men would keep blaming each other for the murder.

Scene 10

We see Aditi waiting somewhere; a car drives up and she gets inside and offers the case to the unidentified man inside, saying it was a pleasure to deal with him. The man compliments her work and pays her a handsome amount of cash, saying he's got an even bigger deal coming up. She accepts it and they take leave.

Scene 11

In the bureau, the team marvels how both Vijay and Shekhar were fooled by Aditi, and how Vijay hardly knows anything about his wife. Vijay says they had a love marriage 3 months ago and she said she had severed all ties with her family and told nothing. Freddy sir enters with her call records showing that from a few days she'd been frequently calling an unknown landline number. The cops say it could be the number of some relative of hers and could help them catch her.

Scene 12

Our duo, Vijay and others visit the house to which the above landline in question has been traced and they are greeted by a bespectacled girl bearing an uncanny resemblance to Aditi. She claims she's her younger twin sister Neha and Aditi doesn't live there but had come to meet her a few hours ago and left while talking about meeting someone at the JD docks. The team is about to leave but Vijay notices Neha's habit of clicking her tongue and says that this was a characteristic of Aditi. They turn back to see Neha/Aditi escaping from the back door with a suitcase, and chase and capture her. The case is found to contain the money she received for the gold biscuits. Abhijeet sir demands whom she sold the gold to. Jaya hands her a tight slap and Aditi reveals who it was - the owner of the sweets shop adjacent to Ramesh's house. He's captured and slapped as well.

Scene 13

The shop guy confesses that he had come to suspect Vijay and Aditi were doing something shifty under pretext of running the sweets shop, and he tempted Aditi with money following which she revealed the truth about the gold biscuits and how she was looking to sell them. The shop guy knew a prominent gold dealer and offered to get her job done. Aditi says she had married Vijay for money but since found out that his wealth is not up to her satisfaction. Thus she decided to nick all the gold for herself, fooled both him and Shekhar by faking her own death. ACP sir condemns their vile deeds and says they'll now rot in prison until their execution.
