Ok, now I am on the 7th floor and the theft happened in the 5th floor.

Yesterday I wanted to go out and found that the lift was not working as the power had failed and the generator had not started. So I was walking down the stairs. When I reached the 4th floor, 2 ladies came running after me from above. The were dressed in heavy traditional sarees and had extra large sized bindis and wore gajra on their hair. They had puja thalis in their hands. I turned and looked at them. They said that they were doing some 'puja' for which they were inviting all ladies in the building and asked me to come to 'so-and-so' location at 6PM. The elder lady told me that she knew my maid and even told me her name. I said ok and went my way...(I believe in God but don't get too sentimental about such pujas).

I completely forgot about this puja till today 11AM, when the watchman of my building came to my house with a normal-looking guy in plain clothes, who he said was a policeman!!!! (Dekho kitne simple lag rahe hain, lagta hi nahin ki cops hain)

This cop came to my house and told me that the family in the 5th floor has given a complaint about a theft and he had come to investigate.

I was shocked. I imagined ACP saying 'chori isi ladki ne ki hai'. The cop told me that 2 ladies had gone to the 5th floor house, sprinkled some water on the lady staying there, and sort of sent her inside to get something and walked off with 50K rupees and jewellery!!!!

The watchman had told this cop that he had seen me talking to those 2 ladies. My heart was pounding like crazy. I thought I was going to be arrested and imagined ACP saying 'Ghar ki talaashi lo'.. I told the cop - 'sir, I have no idea who they are, they just invited me to a puja'. He asked me to relax and asked me if I would recognise them if I see them again!!! (OMG, I thought I would be taken to bureau to make sketches) I said, 'I cannot say sir, if they come with a completely different hairstyle and clothes, I will not be able to recognise'. He asked me my name, address, contact number etc and asked me never to open the door to strangers and went away.

(My mother is suddenly having a high BP now 😭)

My mom is scared and so am I.....can't concentrate on anything now!!!

My hands and legs were shivering like crazy while talking to that guy.

My mom is still worried that if those ladies see me on the road and I suddenly recognise them, they may beat me up or something. She is generally a nervous type. I am trying to act cool about it....

m_kal...the lady in whose house the theft happened told me exactly something like this. Actually her husband is a film producer. He was going thru some tough times with movies flopping and all, so these ladies said that they would do some puja to make things better for her and sent her inside to bring some things. And they stole money and jewellery and went off. I think this is a common ploy used by many thieves.
