Independence and freedom means different to different people. However the tragedy of our country is Independence Day and Republic Day are regarded nothing more than public holidays. It was the era when youth like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Kartar Singh Srabha, Udham Singh sacrificed their lives for the country, while today's youth are running behind their career while easily forgetting the importance of their country. Are the feelings for our country dying inside us? Are we actually forgetting the sacrifices of our national heroes? What does independence and freedom actually mean to you? Express yourselves in 50-100 words. You may or may not include CID in your write up but your feelings for the country hold prime importance here, you can decorate your post with the siggies but it won't affect the competition anyway, just feel free to express in apt words.

For me, independence is not just about being free and own your own, but also a symbolism of great responsibility. It is about starting a new beginning and building yourself up, and get recognized by your efforts and what you are, and not somebody else. I agree that it is a fast world that we live in and we have great responsibilities upon us, but I do not think that people, or the youth, have forgotten the importance of these special occasions. We see kids performing on the Republic Day parade, and kids waving the flag in Delhi, kites being flown, dunno about other cities, but the scenario is certainly quite youth-centric. In our society in Delhi(where I used to live), we had a youth committee that would organize functions and flag hoisting ceremonies. Kids and teenagers alike would sing the national anthem and hoist the flag. So, I don't understand your claim that the youth don't seem to understand the value and importance of these days.

On the other hand, no matter what we do, we will always be indebted to our freedom fighters, who gave away their lives so that the future generation aka us, can have a secure future, free of being ruled over a foreign entity. But we must always try our best.

Independence Day is indeed a day to celebrate our freedom and self-respect.

I don't think the people are forgetting the spirit of Independence. Everyone appreciates our freedom, just that we have less time to spend a whole day celebrating it. Also the fact that the number of people who have witnessed the freedom struggle are fewer now. How many of our parents were born before the freedom struggle? Not many, as far as I can guess. My late grandfather was a school headmaster and he never got tired of telling us all how they used to celebrate the Independence day in style in his school.
Once he had visited us during Independence day. I was excited to see my grandparents at home and decided to bunk the flag hoisting ceremony. I got a long lecture from my grandfather explaining how the students in his school had participated in the freedom struggle and how his teachers had allowed students to go ahead. No one even thought of board exams or career. At that time, nothing mattered to people more than our country's freedom. Everything else was secondary. Independence Day is a day when we need to remember this, pay tribute to all those people and remember that we are here today as a result of their sacrifices.
Then my grandfather personally took me to school and he stood saluting the flag along with the students. I saw the expression on his face while the National Anthem was being sung. Even if there was a Tsunami, he wouldn't have budged. After that day, I never bunked the flag hoisting ceremony. My parents never forced me to attend the flag hoisting. It's just a spirit that came from within, because of what my grandfather told me.
Can't blame people if they are not realising the importance of Independence day. Reading boring history books and being taught in school by disinterested teachers is not going to help. We need to be told first-hand by someone who is passionate about it. And once the passion hits you, you'll never forget to celebrate Independence Day.
Adding one of my favourite videos.

FREEDOM AT MIDNIGHT

India is our country. The incredible, rapid growing world power with developing industrialization and well build up brains with a positive attitude towards world peace and no terrorism strategic plans. We are proved to be Indians, born here, the country with a unique, great and most respectable custom and culture and still never been touched by the unethical foreign cultural mess. It doesn't matter where we are or what we do, we celebrate our 63 rd independence day on august 15th with a patriotic feeling of how our forefathers has handed over the magical lantern, the freedom crown decorated with its golden feather –aahimsa . With 28 states and 7 union territories, India maintains cordial relationships with all world nations. We are the members of common wealth of nations and a founding member of nonaligned movement too. We have the third largest military force in the world with 3 forces; army, navy and air force. We are nuclear power since 1974 with the Budha's smile. Our economy is the 11th largest in the world and according to PPP it is fourth largest. Indian economy is the fastest growing, which shows a steady growth of last two decades. Our labor force is second largest with a 516.3 million percipients.

The long years of British colonial reign started with the issue of 5 shilling! A price increment of 5 shilling on 1 pound pepper by Dutch men made Hector, the small British ship to reach Soorat port. But the motives of business treaty changed soon in to money motive. In 1857 the Revolt, the first independence movement broke out in meerut against British rule. This revolt put an end to East India Company and replaced it with direct rule under British queen. In 1877 queen Victoria took the privilege of empress of India. A brief look in to our independence movement reveals the following milestones in to our mind. The 1905 Bengal partition against British divide and rule, in 1919 the Jallian wala bagh massacre against rowlatt act, the Gandhi era in 1920 which brings up the concept of satyagraha. M.K. Gandhi's great vision motivated innumerable Indians to the battle field. The no corporation movement brought the notion of khadi and swaraj engraved on the great wall of freedom fights in world history. In 1930, it was the year of salt march and civil disobedience followed by quit India movement in 1942. It was the reaction for Gandhi's principles, for immediate independence of India and against sending Indians to Second World War. After the end of world war two labor party came in to power and Clement Atlee become the British prime minister. At last , on the midnight of 14th august 1947 Lord Louis Mount batten proclaimed India as independent country. The constitution of India, the longest and most exhaustive among independent nations in world come in to force on 26th January 1950.

India encompasses various political organizations, religions, cultures, philosophies and movements at the time. It underwent constant ideological evolution and cultural pluralism. We are bound to keep up the legacy of great Indian heritage, the dignity of worrier hood, and the deep patriotic blood of our forefathers.

Jai hind.

Yeh jo desh hai tera, Yeh jo desh hai mera, Desh hai humaare zindagi, Mera desh Mera ghar Mera janmabhoomi, Mera janam aur mauth ki zameen, Humaare desh Bharat.

Hindu Muslim Christian Jain Buddhist kya? Hum sab Bharat ki insaan hoon. Bidesh mein hum sab Indians hoon- Yehi humaare identity hai. Jo bhi ho- ya Bengali ya Marathi ya Tamil ya Goan ya Punjabi ya Gujrati ya Kashmiri ya aur kuch, Hum sab Indian hoon. Desh ki bahar ki logon humme kya bulaate hain? Hindu Bengali? Muslim Rajasthani? Christian Marathi? Nahi. Indian. Sirf Indian.
Bharat hain mahan. Lekin Bharat ko aur maha banana humaare farz hai. Jai Bharat.
Humaare azadi Bharat humaare dil mein hai. Bharat humaare praan, jaan, zindagi, mauth, prem hain. Bharat ki beena hum kuch nahi hai.
History being my favourite subject at school, it instilled in me a national pride, love for our country, patriotic feelings and a general good citizenship attitude. I dont want bore anyone because once i start i go on and on and on. But my feelings are summarized in my own composed hindi song above.
India is a country of a wide diversity in every sphere of our lives- socially, culturally, ecologically, economically, psychologically, regionally, climatically, linguistically etc. It is our right to preserve the legacy and heritage that is India, which was left to us by our Freedom Fighters. From every corner of the country, from the centre, from remotest areas of India, masses rose against the British tyranny and gave blood for the future generations, us.
It is our duty, our right to carry on fighting for the welfare of our land and its people. Externally against foreign powers and their influence, big money power etc. Internally against corruption, dishonesty, social evils, domanance of the powerful evils etc.
Am not saying Our Country needs to be aggressive. Am saying we need to Show our country the ,Light to go ahead, to move on, to learn from past, to rectify present, to build future. So that the generations of Indians after us become good citizens of a woderful country....

Since August 15, 1947- the day we gained our political independence – much water has flown down all the rivers throughout India and much progress has also been achieved in different fields of our national life. This is really good. But still now a significant part of our population that is below the poverty line is living a life not worth living. Corruption is an all pervading a phenomenon in our society. All conceivable norms of civil society without which democracy cannot thrive are very often than not observed by violation. If civil society is defiled, how could one expect democracy on our country? On the eve of another anniversary of our independence, we should resolve the basic problem we are facing.

Every time we ask what the country has done to us... I think todays youth should think what they will give back to this country. Once this thought strikes their mind, things will start to change. Someone said it right that our freedom fighters then fought with Britishers and got independence but alas!! they gave our country in hands of whom? 😕 😕 😕.. Today corruption is an evil that is troubling our country. Little or nothing can be done with the way the politicians or people in power are handling/ managing our country. There is only one way and just one power that can throw light on this issue and get things changed and that is youth and just not youth "educated youths". It's time educated people started to vote and got the right educated leaders rule our country...
To me independence means leaving without fear which is far far from reality. The day a lonely girl is able to go to bed without fearing what is in store for her tomorrow is the real independence. Leave and Let Live is the slogan each one should understand and abide to.
That day, not only indians will be proud of India but foreigners will fear about India. Maybe that day all those educated people who have left our country would return back and serve our country and improve our economy instead of other countries...
