Anu thanks for such a good read about Radhika's punishment.

You are spot on about the Mahant. What a joke of a Mahant!

The thought, how was it that Amma was so successful in creating so much havoc, had always plagued me.

Amma is a tyrant and one that uses every arsenal at her disposal. Forget Radhika, Amma in a sense even abused Devki by using threats and instilling fear in her mind. How was Amma able to do that?

To me, the answer lies in our society. We as individuals have this need to feel accepted and respected by the society. We need to feel as if we belong in our community. This need is so strong in most of us that we are afraid that if we do anything that goes against the societal norms or 'code of conduct' then we won't get that acceptance.

Amma used this 'need' in Devki to feel respected by the society to her own advantage. And hence Devki succumbed to Amma's plans and was a part of the sin committed against Radhika.

It is for the fear of rejection by the society and its impact on her father that Radhika kept the truth hidden. Yet, hasn't every one in PB and VR fallen prey to this 'need' ?

SHASTRI JI: He has a good sense of dharm and adharm yet he allowed his unmarried daughter Radhika to sit with her brother in law for the RP puja. He did this for the fear of 'what the society would say'? So can he stand to judge Radhika for falling prey to the same fear?

DADI: Recently when a swami came to visit PB, Dadi tells Radhika to make sure that he does not come to know about the Vishaka divorce fiasco. Vishaka takes advantage of the situation and presents herself as the CB in from of the swami. And Dadi does not say a word to the swami that Vishaka is not their CB. Wasn't Dadi falling prey to the fear of 'what the society would say'? Similarly, for the Gomedh puja she tells Vaishali to let Amma sit for the puja in spite of Amma just the day before badmouthing all of them. Again Dadi was so fearful of what the society would say if she turns away Amma from the puja that she was forced to entertain such an evil woman as her guest during the puja. When Dadi herself has fallen prey to the same fear can she judge Radhika ?

VAISHALI: She was so worried about society's acceptance of her future grand child who could be a varnasankat child that she was ready to allow Amma do a bride swap during the second wedding. She of all the people has no rights to punish Radhika for hiding the truth in fear of society's rejection of her family.

VIVEK: He knows what is going on between his wife and Arjun. That is adharm too. He is not opening his mouth about it because he too feels what will happen to their honor if it comes out in the society. Can he ever stand to judge Radhika?

CHACHOO, MRINU: Atleast the reason they want to punish her is because they hate her and want to get rid of her.

DEV: He too was guilty like Shastri ji during the RP puja. But barring that one incident he was victimized in this whole 'hiding the truth because of fear of what the society will say' fiasco. In fact, his case was worse because in Radhika's case she at least knew what her situation was and that she was being victimized by Amma but in Dev's case he didn't even know until few days ago. So in my opinion Dev is the only person who had any rights to punish Radhika for her part in all this. And he choose to forgive her.

So, IMO anyone else can be angry at her for putting them through emotional turmoil at the hands of Vishaka but no one has any rights to punish her especially a Mahant who is an antithesis to what a Mahant should be! If he was a true Mahant then he would be first punishing the people who set in motion for such adharm to take place and that is Vishaka and Amma and Devki !!!!!

Anu nice post this mahant has no qualifications to be Mahant he is at the lowest and I would love a scene between him and Radhika putting him down like she did at the punya panchayat of Sastriji. His anger is his biggest drawback I think like Durwasa muni who used to get angry at the drop of hat.Remember the Panchali(Draupadi) and Akshay patra story when Lord Krishna saves her.

Durvasa and his disciples visited the Pandavas in their hermitage in the forest, as per Duryodhana's request. During this period of exile, the Pandavas would obtain their food by means of the Akshaya Patra, which would become exhausted each day once Draupadi finished her meal.] Because Draupadi had already eaten by the time Durvasa arrived that day, there was no food left to serve him, and the Pandavas were very anxious as to their fate should they fail to feed such a venerable sage. While Durvasa and his disciples were away bathing at the river, Draupadi prayed to Krishna for help. Krishna immediately appeared before Draupadi saying he was extremely hungry, and asked her for food. Draupadi grew exasperated and said she had prayed to Krishna precisely because she had no food left to give. Krishna then told her to bring the Akshaya Patra to him. When she did, he partook of the lone grain of rice and piece of vegetable that he found stuck to the vessel and announced that he was satisfied by the "meal". This satiated the hunger of Durvasa and his disciples, as the satisfaction of Krishna (portrayed here as the Supreme Being who pervades the entire Universe) meant the satiation of the hunger of all living things. The sage Durvasa and his disciples then quietly left after their bath, without returning to the Pandavas' hermitage, for they were afraid of facing what they thought would be the Pandavas' wrathful reaction at their impolite behaviour of refusing the food that would be served to them.

Angake very nice analysis.Just love ur analysis.

Chalov: Yes, I do remember the story of Dhurvasa.............But it would be a pity to compare him that Mahant................The only common thing was anger................

Angake: Beautiful analysis...........Yes, I agree no one in Shastri family or PB family have right to punish Radhika.............because they all are in one way or the other responsible for the mess.................This Mahant, of all people dont stand any chance...............In fact, I agree with Chalov that there shd be a showdown between him and Radhika RP.............

Yes, creatives need some melodrama, as you rightly said, hence they show illogical stuff............

Anu,
I don't go that far to tell what mahanth is or not. For me, I see a logic in Dev's story and that story applies to whether it is a RP or just Radhika. Thats it. Logic is logic. The talk about the punishment is given to a human not a post called RP.

Bee: I look at the discussion between Mahant and Dev this way:
Today when Mahant told Dev that he is giving punishment to Radhika RajPurohit and not Dev;s wife Radhika.................It reminded me of the story when Draupadi before being dragged to Kuru RaJSabha, asks the guard who comes to summon her before Duryodhan................She asks, Did Yudhistir lose himself first or lost his wife? because if he lost himself first, then he has no right to lose his wife. and she also questions, is wife the property of man that she can lost and won by others? Like wise, it is okay for Dev as husband to forgive his wife, but the logic that he applied to save his wife, did not apply for RP, because upholding Dharm at all cost, even if it means thorns in your path.................I quote Shastriji and Dadi, that Adharm koi Vikalp nahin hotha and sach chupana bhi Adharm hain.......................If the people who sit in Nyay gaddhi do Anyay, what right they have to call Nyay deesh?

The crowd brought this adulterous woman to Jesus to see how he would judge this lady. As in the old testament it is said that this kind of woman should be stoned to death but it did say both man and woman. But here they just brought the woman. So it was unjustified per the law
Telling the crowd Jesus said the one without a sin should cast the first stone. And in the crowd no one could dare to claim sinless and thus no one could accuse the lady.
But among the people present there Jesus was also there who was blameless and sinless and he himself could have judge the lady but he choose to forgive her. He says that neither do I condemn you go and sin no more.
As Angake says... The wrong which was done by radhika was done to Dev. When he found her guilty he choose to forgive her and she was forgiven as his wife. But than she also kept quite when dadima was being handcuffed and was taken by police. She also kept quite when Vish was insulting Vaishali and screaming at her near Mandir. and on top of that she led Dev to Vishakha's bed chamber for ONS. She did come before Dev was out of the room but she led him there nontheless.
Dev understanding her helplessness and her dilemma took it upon himself saying to babuji that he agreed but radh saved him. So with his selfless love he not only forgave radh but still kept him in his heart as always and she never lost her place in his eyes or his heart. The same way dadima forgave her understanding her dilemma and knowing that what radh has always been a sacrificial and never living for herself.
But now the question is not a personal forgiveness the Question is her conduct as honorable Rajpurohitine who kept a truth hidden and by her actions spoke the lies..
So now the question is not at the personal level or at the family level it is at public level... Only the fact that Radh is Rajpurohitine too. If she was just a CB and not RPtine than this incident might not have arise..
More over I think if Radh was presented in the court of Dev the RP he would have taken the same kind of decision that RAdh did worng and should do some penance. like he did with babuji...

anu I agree with u. I would not look at the characteristics of the Mahant as usually all the sages who r referred in the Ramayan and Mahabharata portrayed great anger.
But yes I would like to distinguish between one act of his. A sage is supposed to give equal chances to the culprit to speak and should have one opinion for everyone.
In the Mahant's first visit to PB, Visakha was also not wearing Mangalsutra and Sindoor on her forehead but he did not comment on that. Dev did say that the girl had left him on her own will b4 he gave her up., although Visakha covered her going away due to ill-treatment by DEV. How come he never pointed these things to Visakha ?? He never said that when things went bad she chose to ran away and not fight it out, so how does a RP fit, if a RP cannot fight for her own justice then what justcie will she give to others??
But today he sentenced punishment to Radhika on the note that she did not follow her Patni Dharm.
According to me, being a RP doe not mean that one should be a Perfect wife and should follow all marital rules but to fight against injustice and impart justice to the grieved one.
The reason for the punishment was ridiculous today and specially I was surprised that no one mentioned that Radhika did apply Sindoor on her forehead and did serve them when she was at PB, rest other pujas only Dev was the witness but these 2 things was witnessed by the whole world but no one uttered a word about them.
