Story so far

D: (Dev gulped) 'Aur agar main yeh kahoon ki main Vishakha se pyaar nahi karta, to tum kya kahogi?'

Radhika was shocked. She looked at Dev.

He had the same experessions that she had seen a couple of times.

R: 'Dev, yeh aap kya keh rahe hain?'

D: 'Main kuch naya to nahi keh raha hoon? Maine yeh baat pehle bhi kahithi, Radhika. Jis din Vishakha ne khudkhushi karne ki koshish ki thi.'

R:'Haan? par baad mein aap Vishakha se shaadi kare ke liye tayyar ho gaye? aur'

D: 'Radhika!!! Main Vishakha se shaadi jaroor kar rahaan hoon, par main ussse pyar nahi karta. Na hi karta tha aur na hi kabhi pyaar karoonga'

R: 'Par'

Radhika was speechless.

D: 'Tum muzhe acchi tarah se janti ho Radhika. Par tum jaan boozh kar mhuzhe samzhna nahi chahti.'

Dev just got up from the swing, looked at Radhika, straight in the eyes withpained expressions and left.

Radhika was stunned.

Part 19

Neither Dev nor Radhika could sleep that night.

Radhika went to the mandir as usual at 5 am.

She was expecting to run into Dev that morning. But she was disappointed.

Dev did not come.

She had got used to meeting Dev at that hour of the moring.

Radhika consoled herself and thought that she has to get used to Dev not being around any more.

She looked at the kanha idol and said 'Ab unka vivah Vishakha ke saath hone wala hai, Kanha. Un dono ko hamesha khush rakhna, kanha. '

She folded her hands in front of the Kanha idol and left to wake chachaji up.

Dev came from behind the pillar where he was observing Radhika.

He had heard Radhika pray. He came out and looked at the Kanha idol with hope.

'She was disappointed not to see me!', Dev as if said to the idol.

He smiled and thought that I hope that every thing goes as planned.

Dev too prayed and left.

It was evening and the sangeet would begin in a few minutes.

Radhika was helping Vishakha to dress up.

She herself was wearing a simple dress.

She had not seen Dev the entire day. She felt sad but tried diverting her mind some where else by busying herself in the sangeet ceremony.

Radhika brought Vishakha in the garden where the ceremony was to take place.

Dev was already present there.

Radhika made Vishakha sit on the swing. Mrinalini and Dadi were very happy.

The ceremony started.

The ladies started to sing.

Vishakha and Radhika were enjoying the music.

Dev had managed to stay away from Radhika all day. He had thought that he would look at her in the morning in the mandir and would stay away for the rest of the day. But he could not keep his promise to himself. He had this huge urge to see her in the afternoon. So he had gone past her room about three four times. But at that time she was busy with Vishakha.

Initially he had decided to avoid this function which was more or less a ladies function, but he though that he would be able to see Radhika so decided to attend.

And what a worth the wait was. She was looking very beautiful. She was wearing a red coloured salwar kameez which was very simple as compared to what Vishakha was wearing but Radhika looked very beautiful. Her beauty was in her simplicity.

The moment she had walked in the garden alongside Vishakha, Dev's breath had got caught in his throat.

He just could not take his eyes off her.

Birju broke this trance by saying 'Bhaiyya!!! Bhabhi ko nazar lag jayegi!!!' thinking that he was looking at Vishakha.

With a great difficulty Dev managed to take his eyes off Radhika.

Radhika was conscious of Dev. She reminded her self of the fact that in two days Dev was getting married to to her sister, Vishakha.

The sangeet ceremony went off quite well.

Vishakha was over the phone for most of the evening. The guests were having dinner.

Radhika was thinking of calling the day off when she heard Dev say "Tumne khana nahi khaya?"

R: 'Nahi!Nahi vho maine kha liya hai.' Radhika lied.

D: 'Zhooth'

R: 'Kya?'

D:'Tum zhooth bol rahi ho'

R: 'Nahi , voh, main?.'

Dev looked her in the eyes and she could not say anything further.

D: 'Main chahe jaha rahoon Radhika, chahe kuch bhi karoon, par main yeh jarror janta hoon ki tum kaha ho, kaisi ho, kyaa kar rahi ho.'

R: 'Par aapko ab mere liye pareshaan hone ki zaroorat nahi hai, Dev'

D: 'Tum mere liye pareshani na hi kabhi thi aur na hi rahogi. Ab chalo chalk ke khaana khate hain'

Radhika was going to protest but by that time Dev had grabbed her hand and was literally dragging her towards the dining area.

R: 'Dev, mera haath chodiye!! Aap kya kar rahe hain?'

D: 'Radhika hum khana khane ja rahe hain'

R: 'Mera haath chodiye Dev, Vishakha kaha hai?'

Dev was very angry this time and roared at her 'Kya do dost ek saath khana nahi kha sakte. Aur har baar tum Vishakha ke bare main kyoun puchti ho? She is not a baby, Radhika'

Radhika was upset now. She removed her hand from Dev's hand and said 'Dev, neither am I a baby. I am not the small kid any more, Dev. You need not treat me like one. I can take care of my self and do not need you to supervise me and keep telling me what to do. Please stop being a big brother now!!! I am none of your business.'

That brought Dev to an instant halt. He turned slowely towards Radhika. When Radhika looked at Dev's expression, she knew that she had said too much. She was afraid now.

She was about to make a quick retreat when Dev caught hold of her arm. His grip was firm and he said 'Just come with me and do not dare to resist.'

Radhika just followed where Dev took her.

She was afraid and she realized only when Dev held her by her shoulders and jolted her that they were on the terrace.

D: 'What did you say Radhika?'

Radhika gulped, but mustered some courage and said 'Dev, please do not create a scene. I...?'

D: 'No Radhika, I am not creating any scene. Tell me what did you just say?'

R: (nervously) 'I? I .. dooo not want you to keep telling me what to do. I do not wwant you to monitor me'

D: 'No!! What did you say after that? '

R: 'What?'

D: 'About me being your BIG BROTHER?'

Dev gave out a sarcastic laugh went towards the wall and railed against it. Then he came towards her and grabbed her by the arms and said 'BROTHER!!! I am and never was your BROTHER, Radhika! I as well as you know that.'

Radhika stared at Dev, when Dev continued 'And as far as 'monitoring you', as long as I am alive YOU will always be 'MY business'.'

Radhika was not sure what to say and how to react. She was not sure why was she upset with Dev at the first place.

Suddenly Dev let go of Radhika and cupped her face and said 'Felt better? My little princess?'

Radhika was taken aback by Dev's sudden change of mood.

R: 'Dev, I am sorry for yelling at you like this.'

D: 'I know that you needed this. To yell at me and loose your cool. I have been a jerk at times, a lot lately. But trust me Radhika, we both know each other very well, too well to be just friends. It is like we are soul and body. '

Radhika was going to say something when Dev said 'Ok, Ok you can protest, but later. I am starving. Please can we have dinner now? I am sarving.'

Radhika did not protest. She just smiled and both went down for dinner.
