Chapter 13

At shastri house there were all preparations going on for the engagement and everyone were happy for Dev and Vishaka….including Radhika…..and moreover the surprising part was Amma was happy with Radhika also as Radhika looked excited for Vishaka's wedding.

Vishaka was feeling out of this world…..for first of all she was getting married to Dev who she fell in love with at the first sight….and also she was getting married into such a rich family that she always dreamt about.

Here at Purohit Mansion…..Daadi was calling Birju who was with Dev n they both come down n Daadi says…."main kab se tujhe awaaz laga rahi hoon…..kaha gaya tha."

Birju says…."Daadi maa hum toh Dev bhaiyya ke saath the…..abhi abhi aaye the hum log…..waise kyu doondh rahi thi aap hamein."

Daadi says…."arre mujhe ladki walon ke yaha Dev ki kundli bhijwani thi."

Birju then says…."haan toh di jiye na….hum abhi jaa kar de aate hai."

Daadi says…."haan toh tehro yahi per….main abhi le aayi."

Daadi was leaving when Dev says…."yeh sab kundli ka kya chakker hai Daadi…..aap jaanti hai na main kundli milane mein believe nahi karta toh yeh sab karne ki kya zaroorat hai."

Daadi says…."beta aisa nahi kehte….aur ek purohit ke bete ho ker aisa kehna achcha nahi lagta….aur voh bhi toh pundit hai na…..voh apni beti ke liye kuch bhi kar sakte hai."

Dev gets quiet and then Daadi gives the kunndli to Birju to take to shastri house…..and Birju does give it to them and when punditji tries to match the kundli….he sees that there was some problem….but he cant point out what…..so he keeps it to himself and doesn't share it with his family.

Dev was in his room thinking of Radhika n how she was blushing when they announced their engagement….he smiled at the thought and felt like the week was too much of a wait to looking at her…..he felt like the day wudnt pass if he don't see her…..so he decides to go quietly and get atleast one glance of her…….and so he got ready and was coming down the stairs fast when he bumps into Mrinalini who almost lost balance and slipped few steps down….but didn't fall.

Dev feels a little emabarassed and so he says…."sorry bhabhi….maine dekha nahi….actually main jaldi mein tha."

Mrinalini in her own cunning way says…"haan haan devar ji main samajh sakti hoon…..kyunki aaj kal aapko har baat ki jaldi lagi hui hai…..iss jald baazi mein aapne sonchna samajhna chod diya hai."

Dev squints a little n asks…."aap kya kehna chahti hai bhabhi ??"

Mrinalini huffs and turns away from him n says…."mera matlab toh itna saaf hai devarji ke aap jaan toh gaye hai…per samajhna nahi chahte….aur issi na samjhi mein aap apna status maintain nahi kar sak rahe hai…..varna itne bade khandaan ke bete ho ker ek mamuli ladki se shaadi karne ke liye ready nahi hote."

Dev listens to her quietly n gives her a very cold answer n says…"kya karoo bhabhi….ke main thoda bizness minded hoon….har cheez mein balance maintain karta hoon….isliye…..iss baat mein bhi maine status nahi but ke balance maintain kiya hai….."

Mrinalini in an irritating tone asks….."kya matlab??"

Dev very nicely says…"ab dekhiye na bhabhi….aap itne bade ghar se aayi hai toh maine soncha ke main jab shaadi karunga toh ek mamuli ladki se….varna khamakha aapko competition ho jaayega na….isliye."

Mrinalini gets shocked and upset by his weird answer so she says…"what??"

Dev very smilingly says…"aapko toh mujhe thanks karma chahiye…ke aapka main itna khayal karta hoon….ulta aap mujhse naraaz ho rahi hai."

He then makes an eye contact with her and smiles cunningly and leaves…..but he was about to step out when his dad calls him n says there is an important meeting in the office and he has to come along….Dev makes a face and follows him.

It was evening when everyone were at the dinner table and they were teasing Dev but when Dev looked at Mrinalini she was upset…he felt sad to that everyone was happy except for her….as he wanted to see everyone happy for this occasion.

And then Daadi remembers something n says…."oh ho main toh bhool hi gayi….maine toh kundli bhijwa di magar….waha se bahu ki angothi ka size aur chudi ka size mangwana toh bhool hi gayi."

Vaishali says…"aap gahbrayiye mat maa….hum kal subah hi mangwa lenge."

Daadi then turns to birju n says….."Birju kal yaad se savere hi chale jaana Vishaka ki angothi aur chudi na naap lane ke liye."

Dev looks at Daadi in confusion n asks…."Vishaka ???.....lekin Vishaka ka size kyu ??"

Daadi and Vaishali looks at each other n then Daadi says…."arre budhdhu……..ab dulhan ka size nahi mangwayenge toh kya uski behen ka mangwayenge??"

Dev says immediately…"haan"

Everyone looks at him all shocked n then Vaishali laughs a little n says…."kaisi baatein kar rahe ho Dev??"

Dev becomes serious and says sternly…"haan maa……..kyunki main Vishaka se nahi Radhika se shaadi karma chahta hoon."

Chapter 14

There was silence in the room for atleast a minute and Mrinialini was smiling cunningly in herself….and then Vaishali breaks the silence n says…."yeh kaisi baatein kar rahe ho Dev….tumne toh khud Vishaka ke liye haan ki thi…..aur maine aur maa ne dekha bhi tha tum Vishaka se kitna achcha milte ho aur batein karte ho."

Dev says…"maa….ghul mil kar baatein karna ka yeh matlab nahi ke main usse pasand karta hoon….bas voh toh out of courtesy main Vishaka se achchi baat karta tha…..per mere mann mein uske liye pyaar…..nahi maa….aap logon ne mujhse bina pooche aise kaise assume kar liya."

Purohitji then speaks up n asks…"toh phir jab humne tumse poocha tha toh tumne haan kyu ki ??"

Dev very respectfully to his dad says…."per dad main samajh raha tha ke aap log bhi mujhse Radhika ki baat kar rahe ho…..mujhe pata hota ke Vishaka ke baarein mein aap baat kar rahe ho toh main jab hi sab baat clear kar deta."

Vaishali goes and sits on the sofa all upset n says…"ab hum kya kahenge punditji se…..tumhe sirf apni baat manwani hai Dev…..tum hamari izzat ke bare mein nahi sonch sakte."

Dev goes and sits by her feet and says…"maa….mere liye iss ghar ki izzat se badhkar kuch nahi….per kya aap apne bete ko zindagi bhar na khush dekh sakengi?...jisse voh pyar nahi karta uske saath ek rukhi zindagi guzaarte hue dekh payengi?"

Vaishali just holds his face in her hands n tears rolls down her cheeks….and then Daadi comes and puts a hand on Vaishali's shoulder n says….."bahu ab bete ki khushi se badhkar kya hoga…..main Punditji se baat karti hoon."

Everyone were upset but only Dev took a relieved breath and went to his room.

Next morning there was a knock at the door and when Punditji comes and opens it…he finds Daadi and Vaishali at his door so he greets them and invites them into his house.

Both are kinda hesitant to say a word so they keep quiet and then Devki and Amma comes out and greets them n Amma says…."kahiye na behenji kaise aana hua."

Vaishali was still hesitant and they share a look so Daadi says…."hum darasal aapse bahut zaroori baat karne aaye hai."

Right when Daadi was about to say something…Vishaka and Radhika comes out with tea and snacks….and Daadi and Vaishali looks at Radhika and thinks about how to break this news to the Shastri family.

Punditji reads their expressions and he was getting this feeling that this was gonna be something serious and very hesitantly asks…."kya baat karni thi maaji??"

Daadi then without wasting anytime says…."Punditji…..darasal baat yeh hai ke……thodi galat fahmi ho gayi hai."

Amma jumps in n asks…"galat-fahmi ??....kaisi galat fahmi??"

Daadi says…."humse galti ho gayi samajhne mein ke….Dev Vishaka se nahi Radhika se shaadi karna chata hai…isliye hum aapse binti karne aaye hai ke aap hamare Dev ke liye apni beti Radhika ka haath dede."

Amma gets mad n starts shouting n says…."yeh kya kahe jaa rahi hai aap behenji…..yeh koi saude wali baat thodi hai….ke hum iss behen ko hata kar….dusri ko rakh de…..yeh rishta hai rishta…..koi khel nahi hai."

Vaishali folds hands n requests…."hamein maaf kar dijiye maaji…..hum Dev se pooche bina hi Vishaka ki baat kardi….kyunki hum bhi yahi samajh rahe the ke Dev Vishaka ko pasand karta hai…..lekin…."

Amma was again about to say something when Punditji interrupts and stops her n then turns to Daadi n says…."hum samajh sakte hai maaji….magar yeh hamare liye koi asaan baat nahi…..aap agar hamein thoda sonchne ka time dengi toh bahut achcha hoga."

Daadi immediately agrees n says…."haan haan punditji….aap log baat karle aur sonch kar hamein bata dijiyega."

They both take their leave n then Amma furiously turns to Radhika n holds her hair n says…."dekha na sab logo ne….abhi bhi samajhte ho key eh hamare liye kuch achcha karegi…..yeh dayann toh hamari bitiya ki khushi ko kharab karne baithi hai."

Punditji stops her n says…."yeh kya keh rahi hai maa…..isme Radhika ki kya galti hai."

Amma says…."galti yeh lalla ke yeh Dev babu ke saamne naachte phir rahi thi….yeh jaante hue ke Vishaka Dev Babu ko pasand karti hai."

Vishaka also gets upset n runs to her room n starts crying…..almost everyone except for punditji were kinda mad at Radhika thinking it was all her fault….even Radhika was mad and upset with this change of plans….and she was also weeping inside….she didn't wanted to be the one ruining her sisters happiness.

Punditji then says everyone to keep quiet as he needs time to think n decide as it's the question of both his daughters….Amma huffs at him n questions him…."ab kya sonch raha hai lalla….tu sach mein uss Radhika ki shaadi Dev babu se karne ka sonch raha hai jabke Vishaka…"

Amma was still in the middle of her sentence when Punditji stops her n says…."yeh sirf Vishaka ki baat nahi hai maa…soncho agar hum zabardasti karenge toh na Vishaka khush reh paayegi na Dev…..usse achcha toh yeh hoga ke hum sab ki bhalaai ke baarein mein sonche."

Punditji then goes into his room n closes the door after him n takes out Dev's kundli n Radhika's and tries to match n sees that their kundli matches perfectly….he smiles to himself thinking atleast Radhika will get her side of happiness….but he was also sad for Vishaka.

In the evening everyone in the Purohit mansion was waiting for Punditji's answer and were worried what will he decide….and Right then the door bell rings n punditji steps in….Daadi immediately greets him n asks him to sit n asks…."kahiye punditji aapne kya soncha hai….hum aapki har baat ka maan rakhenge…..isliye bhi kyunki aap beti wale hai….aur isliye bhi kyunki humse galti hui hai."

Punditji smiles n says…."galti kaisi maaji….jiski kismet mein milna hota hai…..unke liye raaste khud ban jaate hai."

Daadi gets a ray of hope in his words n so she asks him immediately….."toh iska matlab??"

Punditji smiles too n says…"ji haan maaji….mujhe Dev babu aur Radhika ki shaadi ke liye koi aiteraaz nahi hai….aur unki kundli mein saare gunn milte hai…..aap kahe toh sagaai ka kal ka mahurat bhi bahut achcha hai."

Everybody smiles n agrees.

Next morning Dev was really happy that he was getting married to the one he actually love and was really looking forward to see Radhika this evening on their engagement day.

Whereas in the Shastri house…..Radhika was sad that everyone blamed her for Vishaka's loss…..she was still in her thoughts when Pundtji knocks at her door and comes in says…."beta tum apne aap ko khusoorvaar kyu samajh rahi ho….yeh toh kismet ka joda hai….tujhe Dev babu ke ghar jaana tha….toh kisi bhi tarah sahi kismet tujhe wahi le jaa rahi hai…..meri maan beta….ab tumhari shaadi ho ya Vishaka ki……shaadi toh honi hai na…..pehle agar Vishaka jaati toh tu reh jaati….aur ab tu jaayegi toh Vishaka reh jaayegi hamare paas……ab dil chota na kar beta….aur sagaai ki tayyari kar….hamein kuch hi deir mein jaana hai Dev babu ke ghar…..chalo utho aur jaa kar tayyar ho jaao."

Radhika with the teary eyes looks at him as though requesting to not let this happen but Punditji with his eyes insists on her to go and get ready.

It was party time in Purohit family….as everybody were excited watching Dev happy. Vaishali goes to Daadi n says…."humse galti kaise ho gayi maaji Dev ki pasand jaanne mein…..kahi aisa toh nahi ke Dev pehle Vishaka ko pasand karta tha phir baad mein usse Radhika pasand aayi."

Daadi says…"ab jaane de na bahu…..jab tak sab theek ho raha hai…hum purani baatein yaad karke apna dil bura kyu karein…..dekh Dev kitna khush hai….bas usse apna man-chaha saathi mil jaaye…aur voh khush rahe….isse zyaada hamein kya chahiye."

Daadi seemed to have accepted the fact but for Vaishali it was real hard as she had always seen Vishaka as her choti bahu…now putting Radhika in her place was a hard deal…..but she still put a smile on her face and pretends to be happy.

Shastri family arrives and Purohit family greets them but Vaishali and Daadi observes the reservedness on Devki, Amma and Vishaka's face…..Vaishali felt bad watching Vishaka so sad….she went close to her n hugged her and asked her forgiveness and before Vishaka cud react Purohitji invites everyone inside.

After a little wait and preparations they started the engagement ceremony…..and made Dev and Radhika sit by each other…..Radhika was so conscious of Dev sitting beside her coz she knew Dev deliberately sat a little close to her so that everytime he moves….his arm rubbed on hers…..and her heart skipped a beat each time….his arm touched her.

Punditji asked Radhika to put the ring on Dev's finger but Radhika cudnt get herself to touch him…..she was feeling tooo shy and awkward…. And then Punditji insisted so she holds Dev's hand in her shivering hand and slowly puts the rng on him…..Dev was quite worried when he feels her shivering but then he thought may be all girls go through this feeling right before their wedding…..and so he takes the ring from his mom and holds her hand in his in a very passionate way and then puts the ring on her….but doesn't let go off her hand…..Radhika tries to pull her hand but he holds it tight but then Purohitji comes n introduces Dev to his friend and so the process of congratulations begin….which took Dev away from Radhika all the way to the other side of the room.

Then there was song and dance going on and people were dancing….and Dev was watching Radhika from far away….and he smiled to himself when he sees Radhika all dressed up for him…..Birju notices Dev staring at Radhika so he pulls Dev to dance and then slowly asked Radhika to join but Radhika said No….but then Daadi comes n pulls Radhika on the dance floor and Radhika looks at Dev….

Dev then held her hand and Radhika slowly tried to pull it away but Dev held his grip tight and then slowly moved closer to her….Radhika was trying to go but others kept dancing around them so it was hard for her to get away from his stare and his hold…..and Dev using the opportunity of being in the crowd dancing around them….slowly bent his head to her hand n placed a passionate kiss and then looked up to meet her eyes…Radhika was also looking into his eyes…but there was a difference in their look……..Dev was looking at Radhika with full of love and passion and happiness……..but for Radhika Dev was the man her sister loved…..Dev was the man who broke her sisters heart….and Dev was the man who she still thought belonged to her sister.
