Misti, I have mixed feelings about today's episode. I liked parts of it and I didn't like other parts. Not sure where to start. So will start with the bad parts even though some may accuse of being too negative. But then I praised Friday's and yesterday's episode a lot.
1. Artificial inclusion of Barkha in Dev and Radhika's conversations. Why was Barkha again everywhere? I don't understand how they are writing her. If she is so concerned about Dev and Radhika, right now the best thing for her would have been not to light up the diya (nobody forced her to do so as she has a free will) or she can take her mother's advice and butt out. If she is not in the middle, then Radhika can not do anything. It is not that Dev can marry anybody random at this stage. If Barkha is Dev's wife for the society, then Radhika cannot make Dev marry anyone else no matter how much emotional blackmail she does. So Barkha leaving PB is the best way to unite Dev and Radhika. So why is she silent in front of the soceity (lighting up the diya without any protest) and why is not leaving? Why is she only fiery when Dev is there? Is she trying to impress him?
Secondly, now Radhika is no longer Barkha's sole concern. She is supposedly doing for Dev and Radhika. How long will it be before it would be that she is doing this for Dev? Then Barkha is popping up in the middle of Dev and Radhika who can themselves sort out their problems.
2. Radhika - They are making her one-dimensional and somewhat unlikeable (due to her dialogues) to glorify Barkha. She can still be shown to make the same choices, but show that she is doing it not out of duty or dharam but because of Dev. It is not Dada that she loves but Dev. However, her lines to Dev makes it sound as if Dada is her true love and she would do anything for him. If somebody is just tuning in to view this show, they won't like this Radhika and won't associate her with the original character.
3. Rohan - I thought of him as grey and he turned out negative. I have no problems with that, but somehow his portrayal struck me a little one-dimensional. I may be wrong about it and so will wait to see more. His character interests me though and is not dull and boring like Barkha's.
4. Lines of Dev to Radhika - Why is he not reminding her that she too left the society for him and now suddenly is caring for the society. Also, that he would be doing adharam if he leaves her and that won't make him a good RP. He said it somewhat to Dai though. Finally, how was it adharam for her to marry Rohan because she considered herself Dev's wife, but it is not for Dev because Dev would be doing the same thing. But Dev is not given these dialogues because they want to make it duty vs. love fight when it is not so. Duty(dharam) and love are both on Dev's side and Radhika is not giving it any weight because of her irrational fears caused by Dada' brainwashing.
5. Kanha's essence is missing from the show these days. I just hope they don't show that Radhika is doing whatever she is doing because she has Kanha's sanction. It should be Dev with whom Kanha is there or Kanha protects Radhika from her self-destructive behavior by using Dev. I don't know if it is different writers or what. Just as during Abhay track, they showed Dev completing that puja with Kanika even though previously he had never done with Vishaka. The whole forum was angry about it because it destroyed the theme of the show. Similarly, Barkha lighting up the diya was that way for me too. I had expected that diya would be extinguished or something and only Radhika's personal diya would remain. By the way, they edited that part where she lights up the diya or where she tells Dev about it. So they are removing Kanha's essence, but then they are also removing Radhika's essence (sawre ke sang rachi). Today she came across as Dada ke sang rachi.
6. CVs and their penchant for stupid comedy when they have characters whose actions automatically create hilarious scenes.
Now to the good parts.
1. The family is indeed parasites. For her own security, Padma wants Dev to marry Barkha. There are no consideration whatsoever for Radhika's feelings. Now Padma wants Dev to be RP because either the property goes to trust (so how is Virat expecting to inherit it?) or the title goes to Virat (this was confusing to me now because of Dai's statement). Anyway, she thinks that Rohan can't inherit RP title and so between Dev and Virat, it is better that Dev gets it. So liked Padma as this self-centered person.
2. Dev's steadfastness and his determination. He didn't let Padma speak because he knew what she wanted to say and he wasn't interested. He is not letting go of Radhika and that is that. Also he knows the true definition of dharam and I liked that lies and destroying people is not going to elevate RP legacy. Telling the truth and sticking to true dharam would enhance the legacy (so in other words, he knows that Dada tarnished the legacy with his actions). I hope they keep him consistent on this theme throughout the track. I liked how he stated his position in a calm voice and left the room.
3. Rohan's obsession and BB/Virat's motivations. They may again clash and benefit Dev and Radhika despite their opposite intentions. I liked Virat too and his disgruntlement as to how nobody respects him. This is the Virat that was introduced from the very beginning.
4. Liked how Rohan was lying in Padma's lap (Padma comforts him and not Dev) and then got up as he sensed the opportunity. For now RP is not his main concern. But Radhika is. Maybe he knows that he won't be eligible for RP title anyway. Mahant and the company knows a lot of truth about him. He tried to kill Dev and kept an unmarried girl as his wife. So Radhika remains his motivation and he would do anything to get her even though she is now married.
5. Dev's statement to Radhika that he only had two people in his life whom he could call his own. One was Dada who is dead and other is Radhika who is walking out of his life. So he can't exist without anybody. I am really glad that Dev doesn't consider Dai or Padma as his own. He would give them respect as they were his caretakers in the childhood. But they are not his own. So liked Dev wanting to not let go of Radhika not only because he intensely loves her and she is his soulmate, but also because she is his only family left. Very poignant statement from him. Just wish Barkha was not in this scene. Don't know why these creatives cannot give a meaningful scene between just Dev and Radhika. These scenes interest audience and not some third wheel who doesn't belong there. Oh well, hitting my head against this wall again and again takes me nowhere. But I have to state it.
6. Relating to the above point, I liked Dev's aloofness in that family scene. It is consistent with his position in his family. He is not close to any of these people and now he is getting alienated from Dai too who never understood him or never made an effort to know the real Dev. He comes out to pay respects to Dada on his own and is alone in his world. Padma is looking up to him for leadership (she has this need to cling to someone strong; Dada was there, then it was BB and Dev and now it is just Dev). But Dev is now cutoff from everyone. That's why his words to Radhika that she is the only left for him. Unfortunately, Radhika is ignoring Dev's emotional needs and not realizing that a person cannot progress or move forward if he is emotionally broken.
7. Finally, did like Radhika's torn looks even though they made her somewhat unlikeable in the last scene.
Now for the precap:
Radhika's statement is reminding me of that scene from CB1 when she finally confessed her love to Dev. Dev is elated and wants to tell the family that he wants to divorce Vishaka and marry Radhika. Radhika spoke in the same tone as she is doing in the precap and then qualified it at the end by emotionally blackmailing Dev that of course this action of theirs would destroy two families. But they should not care about others and just about themselves. I remember that scene made me dislike Radhika and also many forum viewers had same reaction. Everyone called Radhika extremely selfish and self-centered who was using Dev's love for her to make herself look great in front of her family. I wonder if this scene would be also very repelling. But will wait until tomorrow to comment further.
