Part - 2

God Dammit! for the first time in his life he had been reprimanded by his senior. He, Cmdr. Abhimanyu Adhikari who lived by the stringent rules of the air force has been called in to question for his actions from yesterday night.

He thought back to the scene at the cafeteria. Why did he have to step in? Abhi sighed at the thought

Sameera knew how to take care of herself. She had known even before she joined the force that she would have to listen to all the talking from other male officers. She was an officer who took challenges head on. So, why knowing all this did he step in and the other things that happened later..what about that, he asked himself mockingly?

As he questioned himself, sameera's face came floating in his mind. The hurt in her eyes which she had fought so hard to control swam before his eyes.

That's it. The hurt, that's what had caught him by surprise. He had never seen her like that before. She was always her competent self at the base. But seeing the emotions in her over bright eyes, he had let his heart over rule his head which had left him with no other choice but to step into the fight.
He could not forgive himself for breaking the rules whatever maybe the reason, he thought.

Samrat, he could understand why he had hit the other officer. He was young and a little green on the edges. He could let his emotions rule his actions but him doing the same thing was unforgivable to Abhi.
From now on I am going to stay on the clear and not step into anything related to sam he thought.

Sameera watched her superior's back as he entered his office. She was perplexed. Why was Abhimanyu behaving this way?
She thought back to yesterday night and what had happened. She was grateful that samrat and Abhimanyu had stepped in and defended her.

Even though, she knew that she could have taken care of herself.

She could still feel Abhi's protective hands around her shoulders when he had taken her out of the club. Samrat had joined in and the three of them had driven back to the base without talking to each other.

Abhi had been driving the jeep. He had dropped samrat first and when it was her turn to be dropped off, she could feel Abhi glancing her way from time to time. She understood his concern. But more than his concern what had surprised her more was Abhimanyu stepping in to defend her. .

She looked out and up at the dark sky. Without looking at her watch she knew it was really late. She glanced sideways and saw Abhi glancing her way. Their eyes had collided and at that instant Sameera had known that it was more than a crush on her end. She loved this guy but she did not possess the courage to blurt out the truth to him.

Abhi had looked back at the road breaking the instant connection. Sameera had sat silently all the way to her quarters. She had not glanced back at him after that.

She was brought out of her revere when Abhi had switched off the engine and had waited for Sameera to get out of the jeep. He waited for a few seconds not glancing her way after a few interminable seconds he realized that Sameera had not stepped out. He looked at her and saw that she was staring straight at the road.

"Sameera!" he called out when there was no reaction he called out once again but a bit louder this time.

"Sameera!" startled from her thoughts and coming back to her surroundings she stared back at Abhi. Her eyes where glazed over.

"Sameera, Are you o.k?" Abhi asked again looking at her. Her eyes were glazed over and her lips were pale and her mouth was pulled on the sides with tension.

Pulling herself together, "I am o.k! Sir. I am O.k!" she said repeating herself.

"Good! Take Care and don't think too much about what happened earlier today. Is that understood" he said as sam got out of the jeep.

"Sure! Sir" saying she turned to walk towards her quarters.

She would have kept on walking and would have been in control of her emotions if Abhi had not called her once again.

"Sameera" he said hesitantly

"Yes!" she said not turning back entirely to look at him. She knew that with her emotions running riot she would not be able to control herself if he was nice to her.

Abhi walked towards her and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Sameera, why" he asked not knowing why he had to ask her that.

"It's nothing sir! It's nothing" she said as she tried to remove his hands from her shoulders and tried to walk away.

Sameera must have taken a few steps when she realized that her left wrist was being held by Abhi.

"Sameera, what is it?" he said waiting for a proper answer

She had turned and looked at him and everything faded except this moment in time.

Slowly, not trusting herself she had walked towards him. Placing her free palm gently on his cheeks.

"Sameera" he said shocked at seeing the emotions in her eyes. Not giving much thought to propriety, sam had risen to her toes and placed her gently lips on Abhi's.

Abhi had freed her other wrist and Sam now entwined his hands around his neck and placed a kiss on his lips. Abhi could not think. What was this? This should not be happening he thought. But he did not let go of her. His lips brushed her as he pulled her tightly into his embrace. His lips stroked her and both were drowning in their own world when a noise startled them from their embrace.

Suddenly shaken Abhi stared at Sameera. "Sameera, this cannot and should go on" he said trying to control his rapid attraction

"Why" she asked as she stared back at him.

"Why! Because, I am your commanding office and I prefer that it remains that way" he said.

"Let's forget what happened right now" he said as he turned back and gunned his jeep and was out of there in a heart beat.
