I am international viewer too, and my viewership does not count, that said I agree with a few of your points and disagree with a few.
The points I agree with are about preparation and storytelling. Most Indian shows do not really have pathbreaking or innovative stories and even if they start with a "bold" topic sooner or later they all morph into something similar. Even Sanaya's previous show if you look at it strictly from a story concept was not anything new, there were many shows of angry young man and bubbly girl falling in love before that show and continue till today. What stands out is the treatment of the same story...the storytelling is more important. That comes from writing, direction, camera work, BG music and acting. Even though actors usually get most credit, it is the entire team put together that brings out the magic.
This show was started in a haste and a week before IPL. This hurry has lead them to pay a heavy price. The writing suffered and selection of male lead went wrong. The fact that week one had highest TRP ever for this serial shows that there was an audience, but makers could not retain their interest. Popular actors can bring in the initial audience after that the storytelling has to take over, which in this case suffered.
The good thing about this PH is it is an experienced one and seems to be receptive to feedback and it has brought in many positive changes including changing the male lead. From past one month the story telling and direction has improved...however it is yet to pay off. The ensemble cast is also good. Hope all these changes are not a bit too late to save the show.
Nobody can really pinpoint what gets TRPs, there is no sure shot formula, some very good shows had to shut down despite good script and acting and some average ones run for years. Every PH tries to get numbers, and nobody can tell before hand what will work. So, there is an element of destiny involved too.
Coming to Sanaya, she seems to be a person who likes to work and enjoys acting. She aims to be a good actor over a star. To be a good actor she needs to and she is trying different kind of roles and genres. Some roles will work and others won't. She can't limit herself to love stories and one production house throughout her career. She needs to expand her repertoire as an artist for the longevity of her career. How many love stories can she do and for how long? She may do a couple more in near future but she also has to establish herself as a versatile actor so she prevents getting slotted by the industry. She has been super successful in one genre but it does not mean she won't be in another, if it does not happen with Chhanchhan, than it may with another show, provided the storytelling is engrossing and there is a competent team to produce it.
Many of her fans, including me, we loved her in a love story and would like to see another successful one with her, and she may do one too, but to expect that she will continue doing what her fans want is unrealistic. As a professional who has made a successful career in this tough industry and she will continue making choices, some will work and others not so much but each will be a learning experience. As viewers it is upto us to decide whether we want to see a particular show of her's or not, and wait for her next outing. Personally, I am glad she is willing to come out her comfort zone, though would definitely like her in another love saga but different type from her previous ones.
You maybe right about the shadow of her previous show, but sooner or later the viewers and Sanaya's career have to come out it and move on. With time I hope this will happen. No actor likes to be limited by one type of character and am sure it is the same with Sanaya, her next big role which finds an audience connect should ensure that.
Chhanchhan has improved a lot and nowadays we are getting griping episodes, so, being an optimist, I am hoping the the team's hardwork pays off. If not, then I am sure Sanaya will get plenty of offers to choose her next project from and she will give a lot of thought before signing on. Meanwhile, I will try to just enjoy what this show has to offer.
