Chanchan: A Show Without Substance [DT note Pg. 3]

Well, I am writing this with the risk of phangirls of Esss Eyeee killing me but whatever, it's a free forum, and I finally made an account so might as well take my opportunity to be oh so honest. Aside from all the off-screen mouphatness, I attempted to watch this show because I was impressed with Sanaya's acting from her previous show, and the concept as what started off to be an adaptation of Khoobsurat was something I was looking forward to. Unfortunately, the show is a complete let down, and lord knows what the hell they are showing in the name of "very real" maaadern entertainment. Chanchan has good actors now why isn't the real story starting? Koi mahurat nikal ke rakha hai kya?

Right now, a solid is what the show is lacking. There is no substance in the show, in the characters, in anything. It's a show, that's just, there and thats about it. Let's think about the characters, what defines Chanchan? Using technology or having dogs, doesn't define you. Chanchan comes out as just another bahu, like the 500,000 bahus out there. How did she end up marrying Manav? Cause he saved her friggin dog? But oh wait plot twist, dogs can swim.

The conflict between Uma Ben and Chanchan is one of the biggest let downs of the point. Here Uma Ben is just completely evil, while Chanchan is the bechari bahu, who listens to everything Uma Ben says. There is no real showdown, but infact, just another evil saas, plotting to ruin paradise between her bahu and beta, while bechaari bahu tries to please her saas. I mean yawwwn, you guys have actors like Supriya freaking Pathak. Might I add though, she is doing such a great job as Uma Ben despite the character being something so "been there done that".

The so called "maaadern-ness"on the show is another joke. Roti makers, using tutorials for sarees, a and what not, there is nothing modern about it. I am pretty sure there are people who might wear sarees everyday or possible cook rotis, are modern. Being "modern" lies in your thinking, where someone things progressively. I remember initially, the dowry issue was raised, which was something that I would say was modern to a certain extent. After that, it's just been ridiculous.

Coming to the so called oh so sizzling hawt chamissstry between the leads, errr why are they even showing this and why is this so hyped up by phangirls?? I mean, of course, Manav and Chanchan are newly married and yada yada but it's so sugary sweet I might gag.. They do look good together, but they aren't anything outstanding. I would say it's mediocre, because they are both good looking, and are decent actors, but jeezus, the hype Esss Eye phankis give them is ridiculous. Sanaya and Anuj's acting isn't that great either cause they honestly don't do much. She only has 3 alternating expressions in this show, "Oh I'm so bubbly" "Oh I'm hyperventilating" and "Oh I'm so bechari" and Anuj, LOL what does he even do? Might as well call him the item boy of the show who's there for belly licking, and then disappears. Mana toh padega, eye candy hai boss!!

Overall, if the show, gets an actual story line, and doesn't result to cheesy yawn worthy romantic scenes which seem the same again and again and again, the show might grab some attention instead of the off-screen ping pong happening between leading lady's recent ex co-star. DKM phangals, I am vella kela who is ainvayi trying to show my opinions considering honesty is appreciated so much. Peace out.

This show has a different touch!! It's not supposed to be all dramatic like other shows!! And there is a saying, " Rome wasn't built in a day." So , there is still some more stuff to happen!! Not everything can happen in one episode, then what's the point of watching?! What else do people expect, it's a family show!! They will portray realism and people seem to think it's mediocre!! Whatever!!

You are entitled to your opinions about the content of the show. It is subjective, not everyone likes a film or a show.
Coming to acting agree Supriya Pathak is doing very well as Uma Ben within the script provided to her and Sanaya Irani is also doing a good job within the scope script provides her. So, far she only had few dramatic scenes and she excelled in them. Yesterday she wowed many with her romantic scenes.

You can either be good actor or not, like you said Sanaya has already proven the range she has in her previous show, once the story becomes about direct confrontation between Chhanchhan and Uma Ben, Sanaya and Supriyaji will shine more. They have already shown glimpses of it in the Mandir scene and dowry episodes in the beginning of the show.

From an actor who impressed you in her last show with her acting she could not have become a three expression actor now, because acting is a skill/ talent which either you have it or not. Doing dramatic scenes all the time does not mean good acting, subtlety and doing scenes naturally is good acting too. Plus she has to act according to what the scene requires.

Right now Chhanchhan is a newly wed who is trying to find her place in hearts of her husband's family, don't think she will confront her MIL right away. She is trying to please and adjust with everyone. It will take time to understand Uma Ben and confront her.

Romance is being shown now because as you yourself said Chhanchhan and Manav are newly weds, to establish the new jodi of Sanaya and Anuj, and to also justify why Chhanchhan is ready to go through the wringer for this relationship.

As far as the script is concerned I think it's improving and lot more can be done.

Haha. I knew IF kids were too serious to take any criticism but whatever.

1. Please do not associate me with any fan groups, well at least on IF, that's like the biggest insult ever 😆 Almost all the actors on this website are over hyped.

2. I do not hate the show nor hate the actors. Trust me, is too powerful of an emotion, to be used towards an actress and actor whom I don't even know or a freaking fictional show. I am just stating my opinion.

3. Oh lord, where did I mention Farhan Khan being a good actor in my post? 😆 If I am criticising Sanaya and Anuj, then how the eff would I appreciate Farhan Khan?

4. Its been about 3 months for the show to have been started. I didn't know that there is a specific time for when the real story should start. I assumed it happens right when the show goes on air. Shayad hum hi bewakoof.

That's your opinion, I think Sanaya is doing very well, but of course I wish for challenging stuff because I know she will nail it! Within what has been shown so far Sanaya is doing a good job.

What is happening in the show right now is the story, it progressing from point A to B. Now if you like the story and story telling or not is your subjective choice.

Thank you for this respectful response, didn't think IF was capable of it. Well, personally, I don't find Sanaya's performance convincing really. I mean, she isn't any different than an Akshara or Pankhudi. I dont feel that subtle acting. Maybe its the script but for me as a pretty neutral viewer its not convincing. I wouldn't quite agree on the part saying she cannot become a three expression actor. I have see actors and actresses getting bleh even after giving a good performance. I am not saying that Chanchan has to confront her MIL, that would be kind of rude, but what I mean to say is that there is no development of thoughts. But I am talking about things like ambition a modern woman has today, like Chanchan was a dog trainer, but she just gave it up. Having romance is okay, but I feel like it was being uselessly thrown. Well, I wish the show all the best. I don't have anything against it, its like any other normal saas bahu show, but I feel like the content that was promised to be delivered and immensely isn't being delivered.

From what I am understanding from your posts is that you are not happy with the writing of this show more than Sanaya's acting. She seems like any other bahu to you because of scenes and dialogues of Chhanchhan right now. Fair enough!
What I am trying to say is that the argument you have for Supriya Pathak is what applies to Sanaya too. She has to act within the framework of the character sketch provided to her by story, screenplay and dialogue writers. My point is you seem to have issues with the characterization of Chhanchhan more than Sanaya's acting abilities.
I can see your point because I also feel the same about Uma Ben, her characterization needs improvement, Supriyaji is a tremendous actor, with better writing for Uma Ben she could be a even more interesting character. Many times I can't relate to UB's vindictiveness with no sympathy for her son or family, but that has nothing to do with Supriyaji' s acting, it has to with script. Similarly for you with Chhanchhan. Even I want to see growth in Chhanchhan as story progresses and her to become employed etc. But I think that will come in time. Right now Chhanchhan is married for less than a week and she is focusing on knowing her new family members and getting adjusted to married life. It is a difficult phase for any girl, here for Chhanchhan it is even more difficult because of Uma Ben and Ranjana.
Uma Ben seems more interesting now because she has punchy dialogues and is doing all the wheeling and dealing, whereas Chhanchhan is pretty clueless right now about the games being played and walking on eggshells in Borisagar household.
Plus daily soaps tackle one issue at a time and each issue is a track, right now ousting Chhanchhan in 30 days is the track, then next could be going to work or cracks in Chhanchhan and Manav relationship so on and so forth.

At the risk of repeating myself I think Sanaya Irani is a talented actor and doing well here, but liking somebody's acting is subjective and no actor is liked universally.
