Says Sanaya Irani about her boyfriend not bagging the lead role opposite her in her new show

Sanaya Irani is back on TV after her last hit show, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (IPKKND), ended amidst much protest from fans. After a four-month break, Sanaya will be seen in Sony's new show, Chhan Chhan. The rumour about the story is that it is inspired from the hit Rekha film, Khubsoorat (1980), though Sanaya claims never to have seen it.

"I have never seen Khubsoorat. I have no knowledge of old films," says the actor, adding that she didn't really grow up on Bollywood films. "I have never been exposed to Hindi films. And when I was given the narration, I was not told that my character or the show is based on a film."

Sanaya, however, doesn't deny that the new character she plays can broadly be compared to her earlier role as Khushi on IPKKND. "On TV you can either be a simple girl, a bubbly girl or play a negative role," she says, adding, "I played the simple girl in Mile Jab Hum Tum (MJHT) and a bubbly girl in IPKKND. But while Khushi was crazy and goofy, Chhan Chhan is sensible and straightforward."

But while Sanaya successfully made the cut, her boyfriend Mohit Sehgal, who had auditioned for the role opposite hers, wasn't picked. But she isn't upset about him missing out on the part. "It wasn't as big a deal as people made it out to be. Since Mohit is my boyfriend, people talked about it. I'm sure something better is in store for him," she says.

As for the fans of IPKKND, who are still upset over the show ending, Sanaya feels they will make the transition to the new one. "If the fans loved me, they will love Chhan Chhan too," she says.
