It's very difficult to draw boundaries in a marriage, specially in south Asian culture, what is acceptable and what is not, the lines are true blurry, off course an 18 yo wouldn't understand that.

Especially fresh out high school (or the equivalent in India) and with a level of social conditioning due to being brought up in a small reserved village where they teach you husband is the end goal.
Naivety coupled with social conditioning plus the mentality of husband is god leads to disaster especially when there's a significant physical and mental age gap.

Yep, waise i don't mind age gap in fiction, but the older person has to tak the initiative to rebalance power dynamics, so that the couple are equitable position at most times if not all. Otherwise it's plain abuse of power.
