Hellozz I am back after binge watching S2 this weekend...will share my views shortly and eager to read yours!!!
Hey Tina! Waiting to hear your thoughts. I've linked all the reviews so far on Page 1 so everyone can read them! Will link yours too when you post it!
Ok, so I went through some of the discussions on this forum and I think mine is going to be an unpopular opinion here...So sorry in advance! I am also in a bit of a sarcastic mood so please no offense intended, its all in humor 🤗
To begin with- can someone please explain to me why Kathony is so much loved??? I was hoping for a solid love story despite all the other unnecessary drama that went on and I was honestly invested initially, like until the library scene but everything after that was just sooo stupid, illogical and unnecessary that I just lost interest even in the love story.
About the lead couple- I loved Anthony and JB's portrayal of him and I initially felt a lot of romantic tension and chemistry between him and Kate/Simone but as all the illogical drama started around Ep 4/5, I couldn't feel a thing for them. About Kate/Simone- again a very unpopular opinion but to me she didn't seem Badass as she was talked to be...Especially in the initial scenes with Lady Danbury and at the race, she appeared more arrogant than smart. Overall, I found both of their characters (and especially Kate's) to be very immature, stupid and bigheaded...not sure if its the character but somewhere I felt Simone's portrayal didnt work for me...she looked lovely no doubt..but her acting, I found her over the top in some scenes...but then again, is it the actor who is playing it over the top or the character itself doesnt work for me? Who knows! Did noone else find her a bit stiff or animated or plastic in any of the scenes?
I guess I am to S2 what Lizzie was to S1 😆 Not feeling much chemistry and not liking the most popular lead..
I don't want to compare two seasons as I feel these are two separate love stories that can exist independent of each other...If I have to compare romantic dramas in general, this one is not on my top 10 list but S1 is...one thing that worked for me in S1 was the freshness of the overall setting and I could relate much more to Daph's character than Kate's...Daph is also stupid to just run behind getting married and children etc but at least there is enough justification provided..
(Ok I see that I still went ahead and compared two seasons 🤪)
I would understand Kathony's reasons and "sincerity towards duties", if they really did not get involved...I mean I seriously felt that they didn't even TRY to stay away from each other, that earnestness to truly fulfil their duties was missing and thus all the drama around "duty" just felt childish and they came out as some selfish, stupid and immature people in some high school love story...
Now I dunno whether its because all the changes the series has made to the book or the plot itself...(I think I have understood JQ's theme of writing now...a lot of buildup and then phussss, things getting solved in a jiffy with no proper reason or justification..) I felt the same for S1 but I was at least initially totally enthralled by SimDaph and it took me 3-4 re-watches to actually see through it...here I was just not convinced after Ep 3.
Another unpopular opinion - Did someone actually enjoy the Featherington's drama? Especially how Mr. F ended it...she seemed much more kickass to me than Kate...what a dialogue "I am a Mother"
ElPen were ehh...it was fun initially and all the tension build up around Lady W getting caught but then again...phuss
I guess I was expecting much more based on what I had heard...its definitely not a bad story, and some dialogues are epic..but this is why I try to stay away from all the discussions before a series is released...Often times I am disappointed only if I am expecting much more from something...with S1, I had no clue going in and then it was a pleasant surprise, how good it turned out!!
My guess is they will combine Ben and Collin's love story in the next season and then the 4th season will be for Eloise and the other sis (Francesca? Why is she never there?)
Anyway, go on...disagree 😆🤗

Hehe not sure if you would still feel like linking my review after going through it! Am I being a spoilsport here, taking away all the fun from you gals? Please feel free to ignore me totally but I just had to express it somewhere the way I saw it!!
Will definitely go through your reviews..I think I did read a couple of them but looking forward to catch up on all that I have been missing in the past weeks!🤗
Okay.. I've finished the season and OMG...
That's all for now
Dearest readers,
I'll be back when I gather myself and my thoughts. And my bi ass calms down..
☺️
I enjoyed the Featherington drama as well, especially the last episode, yes, that I am a mother was badass! Pen.. I don't have much to say other than the fact that she messed up, real bad and I don't think she should be forgiven especially when she feels no remorse whatsoever.
About Kathony .. I'll reserve my comments as I just finished the show and would think about it. I do agree of them being overwhelmed with their emotions and not staying away, it's perhaps the feeling of "first love" and the undeniable attraction they felt towards each other. Sometimes it's physically difficult to stay away (been there but managed to NOT do that)😆 but I can totally see them going for it. 🤣 the drama won't sell otherwise🤣
Episode 7 : now now, the stakes are high, Sharma's n Bridgertons treated as outcasts.. so much for a scandal that everyone had cake at
Uff.. Ed being sassy.. I liked it, it came from a place of hurt.. two people she loved so much hurt her.
Both mummas were amazing! Loved the parallels of both accepting they should've been there for the fam and not the kids being forced to parent.
Anthony - Gregory scene was so cute, I almost cried.
Them not being able to physically stay away from each other was understandable but I didn't expect Kate to give in like that in the garden. (So much for being Indian - values and all the duties, example for her sister) [the writers' directors' prerogative]
I'd have loved if they just had a heart to heart conversation in the garden instead.
The ball at Bridgertons' was lovely! Really cute scene! It's good to see how the families took the entire thing so maturely.
So now he finally attempts to propose but uh oh.. the great fall.. how did Kate wake up like that, didn't find that bit convincing. If you've been in coma (?) For a week, you'd feel weaker and won't just get up and start talking
Episode 8 : I like the happy ending but it didn't feel right.. perhaps the proposal, should've atleast shown her accepting/wearing the ring if not a full marriage.
That sex scene was not really needed as such.. tbh I didn't like how they had to show them kiss (almost and actual) to convince viewers that they're in love. They did the same with Simon n Daph too 🤔 (why my autocorrect made Simon to Simone?)
Idk I have really mixed thoughts about the show now 😆
Key takeaways
Good one time watch (my usual)
Loved the drama but somehow it was a bit too much this time, especially Whistledown and Pens's OTT.
For a change, when Queen said the marriage was called off upon her wish,I really loved it. And that invite for the Prince to Ed! ❤️
Daph n Baby A's special appearance❤️
Kathony - sizzling chemistry but I loved them together better in the first few episodes than the latter. Them individually - in episode 7❤️
Edwina - yet another show stealer, through n through! ❤️
Mummas (B, S& F)- lovely! Their struggles, acceptance of shortcomings and love for fam! So wholesome!
Lady Danbury was awesome as always!
Pen - I'm done with her.
Eloise - damn gurl, get yourself together and be yourself please❤️
Ben - darling you are so much more than you across!! They should explore him in the coming season, properly. Loved his banter n support for Anthony.
Colin - get your shit together dear😆
All other, be your best selves, mazaa aa gaya! 🥳
Does this count as a review? Mumma?😆
Ok after going through some reviews and revisiting some scenes from the Season, here are my most recent thoughts-
I think I agree with most of you that I loved Anthony and JB...his expressions, attraction for Kate, earnestness to fulfill duty, feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities...all was justified and portrayed nicely by JB...I could see that he did hesitate to propose Edwina, and then why did it rather hurriedly upon realizing his true feelings for Kate...what he did later, defending Sharmas but using that excuse to try to call off the engagement and then agreeing to go ahead bcz Kate asks him to..that also yes, I could see that happening..and then after Edwina backing off from marriage, trying to work it out with Kate and all...and JB, yes...although I agree with some folks here...white men cannot be that sexy so in terms of "sexiness", I would still give more points to RJP but that brings me to my next point
At least for me, the "sexual" part is not much of a necessity in a good love story...I mean of course, there is sexual tension but sometimes, showing it so explicitly, as if shoving it down without the proper justification and script backing it, ruins the overall experience of the love story...One of my most favorite love stories are Humsafar and Zindagi Gulzar hai, which not as much as, have a proper hug between leads but the chemistry is mind blowing and you can see the sexual tension too...there are others like some C dramas which do have a kiss here and there but still, its totally natural..
In case of Kathony, after the initial episodes, I thought the creators, unnecessarily focussed tooo much on the sexual part...its not the sex scenes that made S1 a hit, and I hope they understand that...those almost kisses and actual kisses when your sister is engaged to that person or just broke off the wedding...it felt forced and then the next point..
Kate and Simone's portrayal of Kate...I seriously don't know why, I can see soo many of you liking it and I genuinely went back and tried connecting again but no...just doesn't work for me...She definitely shines in some scenes but the overall character and the portrayal..I don't see any logic, reason and justification...I found her funny actually during that first kiss, the way she kisses him and then I kind of cringed in that sex scene in the garden...didn't feel any chemistry or the "burn"...
And why does the Queen have to wear those ridiculous wigs again? What is the purpose of it and seriously, how do they even work?? like can your head seriously carry that much weight?
Rest all was great, especially any Bridgeton sibling and mamma scenes...1-1 scenes or them together as a family...it was GREATTT and soo refreshing!!
I didn't like how they ended up Pen but I am fine with the rest of it,..the Featherington's drama, Ben, El, Theo, even Will and Alice...yup its fine...I mean its not a deal breaker for me either way..I would have loved the show despite all of that if...Kate worked for me..
I think the main thing I cannot get over with was that it was Kate who forced Anthony to go ahead with the marriage and then so easily got off the hook...why was she playing so much with that bangle again?? And yes, she did say to Edwina that she would apologize throughout her life but I actually did not see or feel that guilt or the genuineness in that apology...oh how would I? bcz despite saying 1000 things, she didn't actually DO anything to avoid it even later...doing this to your sis...its a bit too much for me to forgive..no matter how great Edwina turned out later, she might end up with a prince and what not but No, this is not ok and it was not justified...like ending up sharing sexy glances every now and then with Anthony, in front of others, in front of your heartbroken sister, just the next day of her broken wedding...no matter how "irresistable" the first love is..I could not buy it..
And why I didn't feel the same shamelessness,, for the lack of better word, on Anthony's part was that he never claimed that he loved Edwina..he was honest with her that its his duty and he will fulfill it...he genuinely tried to hold off from doing anything he desired to do with Kate...he went till the Altar only thanks to the elder Miss Sharma...Also, I actually felt that burn on Anthony's part, that trying to resist himself but didn't feel a thing when it came to Kate
(btw why do they always mention "Miss Sharma" and "Miss Edwina Sharma"?? instead of "Miss Kate Sharma" and "Mss Edwina Sharma"??)
Playing victim when you are actually the culprit, all bcz of your arrogance and immaturity...that's what I felt abt Kate...All big talk and no action...Oh gosh am I being too harsh?? Just writing it while thinking WHY, oh WHY Kate and Simone didn't work for me...I sooo wanted it to work...
In that garden scene, if some guy is telling me to go inside, I will go inside, not bcz I am following his orders...but bcz I know what he intends to do and if I cannot trust myself to stop it, I better go inside than do this to my sister...yes he could go in too but thats hardly the point...what they did in that garden or even before when A was engaged to Kate, it felt like Infidelity to me...Sisterly bond over everything, anything, anyone else babe..I am a firm rooter for that🥳
And maybe that's why, as many of you said, making this a love triangle was not a good idea...if I understand it correctly, thats not how it is in the books and I think they should have kept it that way...
Sorry for my scattered thoughts..I am all over the place lol..I so wanted this to work for me but the more and more I think abt it, the more and more I find myself disliking Kate...😔
I can't bring myself to respond to every line in your review but I will say this:
I 100% disagree.
Kate wasn't the only guilty party here. Edwina was too. She came across as petulant, spoiled and jealous even. Kate tells her initially that Anthony is not the right man for her, but Edwina cries and rants like he's a favorite toy she has her heart set on. Kate even tells her she will find other suitors but Edwina only wants Anthony!
We are told Kate has been doing this all her life, shielding and protecting Edwina (much like what Antony does for his siblings) and Edwina just cannot swallow that someone she finds desirable actually prefers her sister. We see her looking quizzically at Kate staring at Anthony when he emerged from the lake, but she's not perceptive enough to see that there could be something there?
I'm sick of everyone blaming Kanthony for just loving each other and judging them for finally doing something for themselves for the first time in their lives. Everyone else is allowed to be selfish but them. If they are selfish they become guilty, unkind, wrong. But if Edwina is selfish she is a badass who's standing up for what she wants.
I think it was beautiful how they restrained themselves initially because of 'honor' and finally when the feeling became so powerful they couldn't help themselves.
Still they get judged and not Edwina for not even trying to understand the sacrifices her sister was making at the cost of her own happiness.
Yeah, Edwina - you had to say I'm more kind-hearted than you to Kate, because I, for one, could not see it or feel it.
Kate at least apologized to Edwina, to the extent of denying her kiss with the man she loved, but did Edwina apologize to Kate? She acts so entitled and bratty, and when she's being passive-aggressive to Kanthony she gets called 'sassy' and applauded for it!
That scene of Kate with Mary really shows where she comes from - she feels obligated to Mary for taking her in and always puts down her own wishes and gives precedence to Edwina's. I think Mary saying that it hurts her to think Kate does not deserve all the love in the world - tells us who this character is at her core. It's easy for her to sacrifice Anthony because that's what she has always done. Edwina saying that she only gave her what she really wanted for herself was so harsh so uncalled for! All that talk of true love and yet no one cared that Kanthony truly loved one another!
I will give you that they did not show us much of Kate's backstory or have a conversation (library scene) where her motivations and her character could be better understood, and that maybe the reason why non-book readers find her character slightly off, and hopefully this is remedied in the future seasons. But to me, they are mirrors to each other. They did not need to speak or say anything because they understood the other person so well. They were drawn to each other because of it and they are both shaken by the power of the emotions they are feeling because never before have they met anyone quite like the other person. And Anthony is afraid of falling in love. Kate is conditioned to self- sacrifice. I don't understand even after we're given this clear background of who these two are how people still have doubts about their actions?
I will defend these two till my dying breath. (Sorry if this is too dramatic but I get very passionate about things I love)
I will not judge them for having sex. I will not judge them for falling in love. I will not judge them for finally putting themselves first and choosing to be with the person they love. And Kate did not do this - be with Anthony or even kiss him - till after she had received Edwina's blessing. Edwina chose not to be with Anthony, and only after they were ensured of that did the two of them come together or even make love.
Why, at the point when Edwina is clearly not in the picture, and Kanthony are just having an argument in the gazebo, and there is really nothing to stop them from being with each other except their own sense of duty and responsibility - are they still being judged for having sex? Why?
So no I don't buy any argument about their selfishness because these two are the most selfless beings - in fact, so selfless that they are dedicated to their own unhappiness. So them being finally happy together is a romantic payoff that is totally deserved, imo.
Sorry, if I came across as too harsh - I don't mean to be. I just love them too much and am too invested in them and even if the season wasn't everything I wanted it to be, I still want to remain in my Kanthony bubble and squeal about the things they did get right. So right now am not in the mood to be objective about negative reviews.
When it comes to chemistry and finding someone sexy etc- that is a subjective opinion and there's really no right or wrong. But for me it will always remain JB / Anthony >>>>>>>>>> RJP/ Simon in every way and
Kanthony's chemistry >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Saphne
Of course goes without saying that Kate >>>>>>>>>>> Daphne
Sorry! 😒
I have linked your review on the first page!
Also, it still looks like mine might be the unpopular opinion yet!
