Rape/sexual assault are serious allegations. It is bound to create knee-jerk reactions. However, I feel that many people supporting Pearl Puri, especially industry insiders are doing so in bad faith.

People have a hard time digesting allegations against someone they know and trust. I am perfectly fine with them expressing support for Pearl.

But what is happening goes beyond support. A whole second narrative has been created to shift the blame/nix the allegations. This narrative appears to be anecdotal and unsubstantiated so far. I don't think it was right to do so without substantial evidence.

What makes the second narrative harder to digest is the fact that it identifies the victim. There are substantial laws protecting the identities of victims and their families, let alone minors. Let's not lose sight of the fact that this is a child we are talking about here. A child relies on adults to navigate the world and is incapable of understanding or navigating it. As a result, we adults have a responsibility to be exceptionally careful with all matters involving children. Whether a victim of sexual assault or a pawn in some manipulation - both are traumatic experiences for a child. A child does not deserve to have any of this to be attached to their identity. They deserve to be able to grow up in a certain level of anonymity and have the ability to put the past behind them once they reach adulthood. Naming the parents is a way of identifying the child. Those who have named and shamed people in the process have inadvertently attached the trauma of this incident to this innocent child forever.

Everyone needs to take a step back and take a hard look at everything you are saying or doing. Irrespective of which side you are on, the number one thing on everyone's mind should be - what is in the best interest of the child at the center of this.
