It is the same practice in Japanese schools also.. heard that for the first two or three years students will only be taught manners , discipline , how to follow rules , how to behave with parents , elders , and other cleanliness personal hygiene , table manners, keeping their things in order etc..
Daily I would see senior students help the other kids to cross the road though it was not necessary as the traffic signal is there but they make sure the little ones will reach the school safely.. and on both sides of the school entrance few kids will line up and greet good morning to all the kids who are entering the school.. it may seem lame or meaningless but I find it very touching .. it is kind of basic acknowledgement and respect one person shows to other..
these kind of human values we r losing I feel..
Yes even first I felt the same .. But now I realised it and it has become automatic for me now. Whenever I come to India and do shopping, after the billing process I thank them. First they get startled and then I saw a big smile and happiness in their face, that’s when I realised the full extent of these small small gestures ( especially with the shop keepers, sales people in the shop etc ) ..
After my delivery, from the delivery bed itself ( when they were cleaning the baby ) , I thanked all the nurses and doctors and one doctor said none has thanked everyone like this.
