In LKG itself , every week 5 kids will be selected ( on a rotation basis) , they will be taught to setup dining table ( they call lunch as dinner, till now don’t know why ) , clean the tables .. This continues every year ( after first class , dining table setup is not there ) ...

Principal will stand in the road during the school starting and ending time. There will be a lady ( lollipop lady ) who will help the students to cross the road. Principal will make sure that all kids thank the lollipop lady ( in initial days , later on it becomes a habit for the kids ) .. my daughter thanks me everyday when I give her the milk. Now it has become a habit for us to thank her if she helps us..

P.E is very important , if a student is not able to participate in swimming class , then a certificate has to be given by the GP .. They teach everything like gym, basketball,hurling,football,swimming from 2nd class and it is compulsory.

P.s ::: sorry for my long post

It is the same practice in Japanese schools also.. heard that for the first two or three years students will only be taught manners , discipline , how to follow rules , how to behave with parents , elders , and other cleanliness personal hygiene , table manners, keeping their things in order etc..

Daily I would see senior students help the other kids to cross the road though it was not necessary as the traffic signal is there but they make sure the little ones will reach the school safely.. and on both sides of the school entrance few kids will line up and greet good morning to all the kids who are entering the school.. it may seem lame or meaningless but I find it very touching .. it is kind of basic acknowledgement and respect one person shows to other..

these kind of human values we r losing I feel..
