Ayaan's past history and character traits :- Caught up in a drug abuse case but wasn't guilty of it.
i) Revealed to Saanjh and Arjun that he had dated a girl on finder. He was about to confess the same to Maya as well but she didn't care if he actually did or not. The cops had raided an area for drug abuse and this girl was involved in it. The cops retrieved Ayaan's number from her phone which is why Ayaan too was mistaken to be among the guilty one's. Not guilty of any offence.
Btw, this nullifies the theory that Maya had trapped him this particular case, imo. That's the reason why I wanted to go back to the episode and reconfirm it because I personally wasn't convinced about this particular theory. She might have used this opportunity to win a place in Arjun's heart and thus saved Ayaan. Although, I wouldn't count this one as out and out manipulation because at least this was a case of mutual benefit. She benefited, someone else benefited too. Speaking of, the things I didn't count her saving Arjun in Mauritius and her saving Saanjh in the Holika incident as deeds done to serve her ulterior motives. To me, in these two incidents, she showed signs of having an inner conscience and deeds done purely out of humanity. Unless and until, it is proven otherwise.
- Found in an undressed state by Arjun and Saanjh.
We all know what led to what in this case, there was a consent between Ayaan and the girl. Although, she had actually misled him to believe so that she could dupe him of his money. Again, not guilty of any offence.
- He's showed having a clear sense of right and wrong throughout the whole marriage track and stay at Sharma house. He remained a staunch supporter of Maya all through out and even when he had fallen out with his brother.
- Called out on Vandana for every single thing she said, condemned both her approach and actions strongly and at all given instances supported his brother and sister-in-law. That showed how immensely he respected her both as a person/woman and as his sister-in-law.
- Maya and Ayaan had shared a very jovial, fun, warm, friendly AND respectful relationship as a brother-in-law and sister-in-law. He never once made any atrocious remarks at her nor did he ever inappropriately touched her. Can't be gushing about his 'hotness ki devi' compliments one day and then call them filthy remarks the next day. That was his admiration for Maya speaking, not hidden feelings of lust. He meant all of those remarks within the boundaries of their relationship which in fact Maya never reprimanded him for or felt uncomfortable. Had she, she would have told Arjun or Ayaan herself.
- Ayaan back then was your any other college kid. He dated, he partied, he drank, he did stupid and silly stuff most college guys are known to do. But he's not a kind of a man who'd commit such heinous criminal offences. Had he been shown as gawking at women, making snide and filthy remarks at them, disrespecting or mistreating them or even the women around in his own house, I wouldn't have chosen to give him the benefit of doubt in the current scenario instead of Maya. All the things he did with regards to dating are not evidences of his characterlessness or having loose morals because one word that the world even in today's times undermines the importance of; CONSENT.
