Fawad among the people who stood out according to TOI:

People who stood out

TNN | Dec 25, 2016, 12.07 AM IST

HIGHLIGHTS

We admit it was disappointing to see the blink-and-miss appearance of Priyanka Chopra in the first trailer of Baywatch; but it doesn't take away the fact that Piggy Chops still ruled headlines in India and the red carpet in Hollywood. That's no mean feat in the world of glamour.

Alia Bhatt owned the year with a stupendous performance in Udta Punjab. The jury is still out there on Dear Zindagi. What cannot be denied though is Ms Bhatt's breezy performance alongside the king of Khans, holding her ground like a seasoned player.

Talking of the Khans, it took one from across the border to do the role of a homosexual in the delightful Kapoor & Sons. Fawad Khan clean-swept the pedestal for a gutsy role and a subtle performance that proved he is much more than a heartthrob. Kudos!

PV Sindhu. Sakshi Malik. Dipa Karmakar. Till early this year, you may have come across their names in the sports pages if you were a die-hard sports buff. All that changed with these fearless women who gained glory at 2016 Olympic Games at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, thereby winning our hearts. In a nation obsessed with cricket and superstars of cricket, the trio made us introspect whether we love sport as a nation or just blindly love our stars. Sindhu, at 21, is the youngest to win an Olympic medal (silver) for badminton. Freestyle wrestler Sakshi Malik, 24, won bronze, and gymnast Dipa Karmakar, 23, secured 4th position in the women's vault event with an overall score of 15.066. Considering she is the first Indian female gymnast ever to compete in the Olympics, it's an effort worth all the applause.

The mythical folk singer-poet Bob Dylan made one of the biggest headlines this year for getting the Nobel Prize in Literature - the first singer to get the accolade for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition'. What made the matter more fascinating was the elusive singer's ensuing silence and reluctance to acknowledge the prize much to the annoyance of the Nobel Committee. But all's well that ends well said the Bard. Dylan invoked him in his moving acceptance speech, though he did not attend the ceremony held early this month. It said, "Not once have I ever had the time to ask myself, Are my songs literature?' So, I do thank the Swedish Academy, both for taking the time to consider that very question, and, ultimately, for providing such a wonderful answer."

Music lost its maestros
This was truly the year that music died. It began on a sad note when the news came in of iconic singer-songwriter and style icon David Bowie's death on January 10. Since then, many musicians played their swansong. We bid adieu to Prince - the 80s rockstar and cultural phenomenon. Closer home, we mourned the death of maestro M Balamurali Krishna. And this was the year legendary Leonard Cohen was laid to rest. As he once said: "I've often said if I knew where the good songs came from, I'd go there more often." We do too, Mr Cohen, because the music will live on.

^Still the Indian PM wishes the Pak PM on his birthday. Tight slap to all the bhakts who think anyone Pakistani is a terrorist.

Hopefully this stupid ban by IMPAA is lifted soon. But do you guys think Fawad will comeback and work again in such a hostile environment? (Granted he's received a lot of love, but there is a lot of hate too. Another attack in Kashmir and he may be banned again).

I think Fawad will definitely make his comeback. Indian fans are too attached to him so are some kind people in Bollywood. But yes, like some people think BW will always suck him into the vortex of controversies if he's here so I feel he should get some role in an Amreekan show or a HW movie😉.

Heartthrob Fawad Khan was in Karachi recently, shooting for a TVC. Who else agrees that we don't get to see enough of this star, on TV or otherwise? #hautetrail #fawadkhan #exclusive

I dont want Fawad to work in India under uncertainty and especially bashed the way he was in that month leading up to ADHM. No one deserves what he went thru that time. He can do good work in Pakistan too. We all are his fans from his work done there.
