Actor Ranveer Singh was the life of the party at the NDTV Indian of the Year awards on Tuesday. The 30-year-old star of Bajirao Mastani told the audience that he takes his work seriously, himself not seriously at all. He put this philosophy to work through much of the award show, where he was named Entertainer of the Year.

Here are 10 things Ranveer Singh did, said and tweeted at the awards:

1. On stage to accept his award from National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Ranveer broke into an impromptu jig to the tune of Malhari from Bajirao Mastani. Bonus - Mr Abdullah, 78, matched him step for step. So. Much. Swag. This video is now viral, with nearly a million views on Facebook.


2. For a brief moment, Ranveer hijacked Bajirao Mastani co-star Deepika Padukone's moment, when she was being awarded Actor of the Year. As Deepika blushed, Ranveer sang a snatch from their Bajirao song Deewani Mastani:


3. For those disappointed by Ranveer's regulation suit, NDTV tweeted a picture pointing out that he had socks on that made up for his grey suit. On stage, Ranveer explained himself to NDTV's Barkha Dutt, "Bahar se kuch aur, andar sey kuch aur. Barkha, I will never disappoint you, Don't worry, I won't take my shirt off." After the show, he responded to our tweet.

4. Ranveer spoke for a roomful of Big B fans when he said, "If you are a Hindi film fan, you are an Amitabh Bachchan fan." Big B was awarded for Lifetime Achievement.


5. Deepika, who had a flight to catch, made an early exit from the awards. Told on stage that she had departed, Ranveer said, "She's on a flight to meet the other taklu." He was referring to Deepika's next co-star, shaven-headed actor Vin Diesel, opposite whom she is making her Hollywood debut in the third xXx movie. Ranveer went bald to play Peshwa Bajirao in his film.


6. When his opinion on Deepika as a co-star was invited, Ranveer said, "You just have to look into her eyes and the scene will happen." (What scene, enquired NDTV's Sreenivasan Jain, to general mirth).


7. This Bajirao Mastani moment was proof that such scenes require only some gazing into each other's eyes.


8. After the awards, Ranveer tweeted to Dr Prannoy Roy thanking him for the evening:

10. Ranveer also wished Deepika luck for her Hollywood film with this endearing message: "Deepika, we're really proud since you are leaving tonight to shoot for your Hollywood action blockbuster. May you conquer the West and make us proud like you always have."
