"S h a d o w s of a t h o u s a n d years rise again u n s e e n.

Voices w h i s p e r in the trees t o n i g h t is h a l l o w e e n"

Some believed it was the bridge to the world of the d e a d. Some used it to mark the end of h a r v e s t and the beginning of w i n t e r. Regardless of its beginning, its ultimate fate was to transform into the s c a r i e s t holiday known to
m a n k i n d.

It was a cold night, shadows of the dead were lurking the darkest corners. Leaves rustled in anticipation, as the C e l t s began to perform the
s a c r e d rituals. Sacrifices of animals and crops were made, lit bonfires lighting up the atmosphere. It was time for the d e a d to mingle with those l i v i n g with their memories. November 1st. The day w i n t e r saw its beginning and the
d e a d reclaimed their path. It was the festival of S a m h a i n.
The C h r i s t i a n s watched from afar and were not pleased with the
p a g a n ritual. In the near future, they would begin to force the Celts into submission and destroy Samhain's existence. They would introduce the
C h r i s t i a n F e a s t o f A l l S a i n t s, a day devoted to honoring each saint. Their plans
w o u l d n ' t succeed, yet they would play a hand in transforming
S a m h a i n into the holiday we know and appreciate:
H a l l o w e e n.

Halloween's past is deadly and mystic, something n o t to be toyed with. Come j o i n us as we embark on a h a u n t i n g adventure through d a r k n e s s. As for the Celts and Christians, perhaps they have gone h a u n t i n g. We shall expect their arrival at midnight. Happy F r i g h t Night!

"When black c a t s prowl and p u m p k i n s gleam.

May l u c k be yours this H a l l o w e e n"

In a time when vampires weren't romantic and computers were gigantic, H a l l o w e e n began not as the scare-fest we see today but as a way tocommemorate the dead. Homage was paid to loved ones and a lot of t r a d i t i o n s and c u s t o m s stemmed from this practice on the night of "H a l l o w s E v e" which preceded "A l l S a i n t s D a y" a celebratory day forsaints and martyrs.

Let Us Get Our Facts Straight

The h a l l o w e e n of t h e n & n o w

T HE N

A cake for a soul makes a- s o u l c a k e.
All Hallow's Eve as we told you was a means of remembering the souls that had parted from this world. An interesting way in which people marked this eve was by visiting graveyards and lighting candles on the graves. What is interesting about that?, you may ask. The interesting part is; after visiting the graves, children would go door to door asking for bread then known as s o u l-c a k e s. This was called S o u l i n g. It was believed that a piece of bread given in charity could save a soul from eternal damnation. And to think people spent years being good and doing good to escape hell; if only they knew that a piece of bread was all it took.

Shhh! The spirits might see you
In another old Halloween fable, it is told that Halloween is the night when the veil between the dead and the living is thinned and the spirits returnto roam freely on earth. Ancient folks who believed they could outsmart the walking dead would follow a ritual known as G u i s i n g where they woulddisguise themselves as spirits and ghosts on this night to fool the spirits. You know what to do during the next zombie apocalypse.

What is Jack's Story?
No we aren't talking about the J a c k that went up the hill with Jill to fetch a pail of water. This Jack did something much more fun . As legend goes Jack was a stingy guy who existed eons back and he apparently fooled theDevil himself from taking his soul for 3 continuous years. And when he finally died, G o d wouldn't accept him into heaven and Devil still kept his promise and wouldn't allow him into hell. Having nowhere to go Jack was left dangling in between with a piece of burning coal in a turnip to light thedark path.
Everyone tells Jack's story in a different way. Creative people have made many variations & versions of the story but this is the most told version. If you aren't satisfied you could always try cooking up one yourself. Who do you think Jack was? And how do you think he ended up becoming Jack-O-Lantern?

Because all work and no play makes Jack a dullboy
When there was no television or internet people came up with fun andcreative ways to spend their time. H a l l o w e e n has many such activities embedded into its history. In it's early days this day was used as a means of fortune telling. One of the means of predicting the future was- a c a k e.It would be baked with a c o i n, d r i e d l e a f & a r i n g. Your whole year depended on getting the right piece of cake and the big piece is not the answer here. If you got a coin you would be financially secure, the dried leaf bought ill fortunes and the ring meant happily ever after.

A special mention to the apple bobbing games is required here where people had to pick up floating apples in a tub with their teeth. Whoever picked the most, won. Our ancestors apparently took " An apple a day keeps the doctor away" very seriously.

N O W

Trick or Treat give me something good to eat.
Because blackmailing your parents and throwing tantrums in your own house is too mainstream, oncea year kids take the opportunity to dress upand go from house to house in their neighbourhood asking for treats and warning of dire consequences like the wrath of satan, in this case candy deprived kids falling on the house in the form of tricks. People mostly opt to part with their candy feeling it to be a fair bargain in this game of T r i c k or T r e a t.

Every costume tells a story
Originally H a l l o w e e n night was marked by dressing up as spirits to ward off the spirits that came back once a year on an excursion to life on Earth. But with changing times and ever increasing list of monsters why stay restricted to dressing as a spirit? Modern day Halloween is celebrateddressed as anything from "The Flash" to "The Dracula".

From Jack To Jack O Lantern
Years since the legend, the story of J a c k has taken many forms, differenttwists & turns. Finally it has found a permanent place in the Halloween celebrations of today where we find different pumpkins being carved and turned into J a c k O L a n t e r n s. Don't forget to carve out a lantern this halloween to show you light in darkness like it did for Jack.

What to do? What not to do?
We've moved past the fortune telling and the apple bobbing. 21st centuryas a generation is very innovative & creative. We dress up as monsters instead of running away from them and invite them into our home by watching horror movies on Halloween night. So obviously our celebratory activities on halloween are a little different too- While some like watching horror movies others curl up with their scary books. Bored of talking to humans? There is the ouija board to communicate with the spirits to spice things up. The possibilities are endless. Scroll down to the next post to get an exclusive of our Halloween list that we have compiled to make thisHalloween a blast.

We're counting the days to Halloween around here! While we're still debating between a sexy skeleton and zombie princess Jasmine for our overall costume, let's take a look at some fun things to do on Halloween.

1-Beautiful ideas for nail art:

1- Zombie Decals

2- Googly Eye Nails

3-"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" Nail Decals

4-Spiderweb Nails

They are so beautiful right?! Now, are there any other fun things to do?? Of course! Something like watching scary movies and listen to Halloween themed songs. Here we have recommended some of the top Halloween movies. Let's have a look.

2-Halloween Movies:

1) The Lady Vanishes (1938)

One of the last films Alfred Hitchcock made in the UK before heading to Hollywood, The Lady Vanishes follows a beautiful young woman (Margaret Lockwood) trying to solve the disappearance of her traveling companion.

2) Rosemary's Baby (1968)

Despite its reputation as one of cinema's most celebrated horror films, Rosemary's Baby also set many a trend in the late 1960s. Mia Farrow's Vidal Sassoon haircut introduced the pixie to the masses, while her pregnancy wardrobe made baby doll dresses a closet staple.

3) Night of the Living Dead(1968)

Even if you're on the squeamish side, George A. Romero's horror classic set the precedent for zombie flicks. It's a must-watch for any cinephile.

4) The Omen (1976)

A couple (Gregory Peck and Lee Remick) inadvertently adopt the Antichrist after the death of their newborn in this horror classic.

5) Silence of the Lambs (1991)

If you haven't already, acquaint yourself with Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) in this chilling thriller, one of only three films in cinematic history to take home the five major Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Hopkins), Best Actress (Jodie Foster) and Best Adapted Screenplay.

6) The Addams Family (1991)

The first movie to chronicle the lives of Charles Addams' "creepy, kooky" family introduced two inadvertent style icons: Anjelica Huston's morbidly glamorous Morticia and Christina Ricci's schoolgirl with a dark side, Wednesday.

3- Halloween songs:

Never mind those sugary sweets. Halloween brings some delectable ear candy, too. But "witch" Halloween songs are the most popular? As you prepare your Halloween party playlists, we're helping to make sure that you don't miss a single graveyard smash, as we present our creepy countdown of Billboard's Top Halloween Songs. Because when it comes to Halloween, these are the songs you wouldn't want to be caught ... dead ... without.

Counting down

10. "This Is Halloween" - Danny Elfman

9. "Highway to Hell" - AC/DC

8. "Don't Fear the Reaper" - Blue Oyster Cult

7. "Creep" - Radiohead

6. "Superstition" - Stevie Wonder

5. "Werewolves of London" - Warren Zevon

4. "Deal With the Devil" - Pop Evil

3. "Ghostbusters" - Ray Parker, Jr.

2. "Monster Mash" - Bobby "Boris" Pickett & the Crypt-Kickers

1. "Thriller" - Michael Jackson

4-Halloween decorations:

Get ready to spook out some kids with these easy decoration ideas. The following two are the wickedest ways to transform the outside of your home for a "spooktacular" Halloween.

5- Halloween food:

Let's do this differently; strange Halloween food is always a great way to spice things up during a Halloween party. You want cookies? How about finger shaped butter and almond cookies to add to the Halloween feel? And some guacamole? No one can ever go wrong with guacamole. A pumpkin throwing up guacamole with some toasted tortillas will be a perfect twist! Lastly, let's take things up a notch. Make the food look disgusting and spooky. A graveyard themed apple crumble with chocolate frosting decorations. Only the chocolate is in the shape of some creepy crawlies.

Now that the nice things are done, let's take a look at the naughtier side of Halloween.

BOO TO YOU!! Did I scare you? No? I know I did. Okay, if I didn't then take a look at our prankster's gambit with 4 funny yet spooky Halloween pranks that we've picked out exclusively for you.
