Erm, sorry Anu. The 4G modem is lying in dad's office so I won't be able o post the vm today. Gotta wait till he comes back.

Off-topic, I was reading "Prisoner of Azkaban" today and I realised, I've never really thought much about Sirius's character beyond him being a part of Marauders, being badass and being Harry's Godfather.

He is one character I have loved since book 3 and I was mightily upset when JKR decided to kill him.

However, unlike the explanations she has offered regarding several of the characters and their BGs, their futures, Padfoot remains a mystery.

I received a real jhatka when I was reading book 5, the part where he is not happy with Harry getting a clean chit from the ministry. This is where I started wondering about his friendship with James.

James had a good bringing up which Sirius didn't. James had a life beyond Marauders, Sirius (acc to me) didn't have a life beyond James. No matter how much one argues, truth remains that he was never the same with either Remus or Peter as he was with James.

This friendship was more like an obsession in Sirius's case! Harry looked like James so he started seeing James in him after coming out of Azkaban.

Anyone who wants to discuss this? I'd really love to know what others think. 😃

Sirius was a complicated character and the fact that JKR just about teased at his issues in some ways contributes to his enduring mysterious appeal to the fans.

You are correct about his upbringing shaping up his personality in many ways...he was looking for a surrogate family when he found James and subsequently the Marauders...but he definitely hero-worshipped James...and Harry's resemblance to James became an extension of sorts for Sirius...it was subconscious, he couldn't help it but being the kind of intense character he was by nature, it was not surprising...he was always a troublemaker, looking for thrills and challenges too...him and James were leaders by nature...so ofcourse they gravitated towards each other...Remus and the others were sort of the followers that carried along...but James was always the center for Sirius...that is why he took his loss the hardest and tried desperately to rekindle it somehow through Harry.

W.O.R.D to all of it.

I found his attachment to James somewhat unhealthy, you know. Maybe it's just me but there are things which always bother me or doesn't seem right even if it looks perfect.

Padfoot and Prongs were a classic example of friendship set by JKR for generations to follow and I honestly found those few pages of "Snape's worst memory" much more interesting than all the endeavours of the golden trio put together!

But it would have looked more perfect if I had read it BEFORE I read about Harry's trial.

Hermione was right about him trying to look for James in Harry and I found it seriously disturbing. 😕

At least in this case it was a real person, not some fictional character or couple but I guess the mess that happened in the last month made me bring this particular topic here.

Remember Dumbledore and Grindlewand?? Doesn't it sounds familiar (minus either of them being evil).

LOL no I never found them unhealthy in that sense...they gave off a vibe of brash teenagers who were somewhat immature bullies too, no doubt...but there was redemption in the form of Lilly...the fact that Lilly's presence tempered them rather than bringing out worse in them showed that ultimately their goodness won out over their immaturity.

That doesn't take away from that intriguing chapter from Snape's POV either but that is the beauty of it...I don't find either of them to be fully heroes or villains...Snape did plenty of immature and petty things too...and his obsession with Lilly was definitely unhealthy too in a sense...but then again ultimately it became an instrument for good as that is all that kept him from going over the edge into complete darkness...Lilly's love saved both James and Snape in different ways.

Dumbledore and Grindelwald's case is different...lol cuz JKR dropped elephant sized hints about them having been lovers😆...so that became a different kind of complication...it wasn't just the case of immature teenagers...Dumbledore was in love with him and went to different extents in that love...

Sirius was not in love with James...for him, James was the brother he never had...

And KY2 ka obsessed brigade is on another level...only parallel I see is that creepy teenager from The Fall as I said some days back😆

I remember watching "Black Swan" for the first time and the mother of Nina made me CRINGE!

The relationship b/w the mother and daughter was unhealthy to the point of parasitic!

The mother wouldn't leave her grown up daughter alone when she was around and was even jealous of her daughter getting to play the lead in a performance!

@Bold THIS. 👏

The fact that JKR followed Shakespeare's path and made the characters more real than outright heroic was the winner!

LOL, I know better than to think that Sirius loved James beyond a friend or a brother- I thought of a few similarities that I found in both these cases. 😛

Honestly speaking, I never really found Snape very heroic- unlike many do. He hated and bullied Neville simply because of the fact that Voldemort chose to kill JiLy over his parents and that he's not the chosen one. Wuteven. 😕

He was brave, yes. One of the bravest character of HP but I never really found him to be logical despite him trying to make people believe that he is by having a cold-exterior. There were times I wondered who was he more obsessed with- Lily or James. 😆

Snape is not typically heroic, his brand of bravery is unusual as well...we want easy characters to idolize...Snape is not that character...but he is no doubt extremely FASCINATING...that such extreme bitterness and pettiness can COEXIST in a heart that spends its entire lifetime pining over a one-sided love...usually that kind of love is mahaan and self-less...but Snape was not like that...the level of self-lessness he showed alongside all the other pettiness he inflicted on Harry for whatever reasons (they were not noble😆) is what makes him an intriguing character to me.

That you can simultaneously admire his bravery and the extent of his sacrifice but keep in mind that the things he did otherwise to Harry or the others still remain condemnable...that is writing win for JKR.

Waise are you reading her Cormoran Strike books? Good reads...it's not HP fantasy obviously but her dry wit is the same...I like that quality in her writing😆...the way she makes her "heroes" not so heroic and very everyday awkward almost😆

Oh but I digress...lol Snape was definitely more obsessed with Lily...his obsessive hatred for James was a byproduct of not being able to get Lily and James having her😆...and then Harry's luck...to be the ultimate combination of his parents...Lily's eyes and James's face and body...no wonder Snape was going schizo warring b/w love and hate for the boy😆

*Edit: Re: Logic...lol when has there even been logic in love...ever more so the selfless and self-annihilating love that Snape felt for Lily...there was never any scope for logic there...he loved her beyond reason in his own way.
