Hi Amu,
Well being a Punjabi raised in South has its advantages, we get to eat with hand rather than a chamach and of course the linguistic skills are something we get to boast about in the resume. 😆
India has progressed, now hardly anyone notices any differences in terms of culture too. Traditional brahim families are willing to include a Sangeet, Mehendi function, so it is really the hype that is created. People are changing, adapting, bridges are being narrowed by cinema's contribution.
The mindset is the matter of concern. Where and how the person is raised makes a difference. But with a show depicting things just for viewership and if the people take it in the sense that is meant to be shown in, it could work, but if it persists it can be deduced as regionalism(like racialism), like you mention.
The jokes, over acting (sometimes) can be irritating. The maker of the show should be aware ,do the necessary research before going ahead with the project, given it can offend viewers too, leading to the decline/downfall.
Jovial one-liners, making fun of a group/caste isn't unavoidable, but then if it becomes our part of daily lives, doesn't indicate that we have developed as a nation really! The outcome is simple - hatred in the long run.
Behavior patterns - Yup like Ria suggests in terms of slight differences, things are evident and shouldn't be a barrier or factor to determine friendship. In general, I feel it impacts the personality, even without your knowing, but then we all change based on the surrounding to make our lives comfortable.
