ATTRACTION

The professor scribbled over the white board in big bold red letters and underlined it several times. These psychology classes are boring sometimes I tell you. I took notes of what he was teaching while the whole class was just busy texting or sleeping. I looked at the back benches and saw Mukti. She was this cool girl who had this punk fashion sense and let me tell you each and every boy in the campus feared her. Except Cabir - Probably the funniest person present in the campus. It's like he was born to make everyone smile but nowadays he failed to make Alya smile. Alya - The girl who had everything but still nothing. She was nothing less than a model, a perfect figure, beauty with brains obviously, and the best fashion sense. What she didn't have was love. She was heartbroken many times but her friends were always there. And then I saw Dhruv and Manik - The best buddies of all time. They were inseperable and nothing could come between them. Dhruv was the sweetest guy I have ever seen. We get together a lot. Dhruv - My first friend in college. And here comes Manik Malhotra - The guy every girl has hots for. The hottest guy of our college, Good in sports, plays guitar and sings amazingly. All this while I was staring at him like a kid stares at a chocolate. Suddenly I heard someone calling my name. NANDINI NANDINI. A rubber hit straight on my forehead and I was back in reality. Professor fumed in anger. I straightened my glasses and stood up nervously. "So Nandini, tell us what do you know about Attraction." He asked. "Oh attraction! Like I have towards M..." I quickly covered my mouth in horror. What the hell was I going to say. I stared at Manik and then at the professor. Both of them were confused. I tried forming a sentence and voice it but unfortunately at that very moment my brain and my voice box stopped working. Everybody present in the class were laughing. I glanced over at Manik and he too was laughing. I was going to cry so I ran out of the class and headed towards the washroom. I stood in front of the mirror. Yeah, This was me. Nandini Moorthy - The geeky girl. The girl wearing those old fashioned tribal print Kurtas and those big fat glasses which covered almost my entire face. "Aiyappa! How you always manage to make a fool out of me? I feel so terrible." I ranted looking up. Wiping all the tears away I headed out of the washroom and went towards the lockers. As soon as I opened my locker, a small yellow note fell off. It read -

DON'T LET THESE SMALL THINGS MAKE YOU LOSE THOSE PRECIOUS TEARS. BE STRONG ALWAYS. I AM ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU. JUST LOOK AROUND AND YOU WILL FIND ME.

Reading the note I quickly looked everywhere and found Dhruv and Manik chit chatting like always. Naah! They can't be. A smile crept over my face like I just saw some celebrity pass by. And as always I forgot to mention, these notes were a daily business. Navya thinks Dhruv sends them and is my secret admirer but I doubt. Just the Navya came and snatched that note from me like she always does. I don't know what entertainment she gets from reading these notes. I ran behind her.

Next day

I walked up to my locker and saw Manik Malhotra there. And old habits never die. I forgot to mention Manik owns the neighbouring locker. I went up to him and said Hi to him. He just smiled and nodded. Probably the best day of my life. He noticed me and smiled. And then there was this note again. I opened it

I HOPE YOUR SMILE DOESN'T FADE AWAY. I WANT TO TELL YOU THAT YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL WHEN YOU SMILE. KEEP SMILING BECAUSE I WOULD BE THERE WATCHING YOU

I blushed. I blushed pretty hard. I read the note once, twice, thrice, a million times in my head and let the words sink in. I turned back to see Dhruv there. We greeted each other and talked for some time when I saw a yellow paper in dhruv's hand. Aiyappa! Dhruv? Dhruv sends me these notes? He turned towards Manik. I started walking towards the canteen when I saw Dhruv handing something to Manik but I couldn't exactly see what. I have to confront Dhruv about these notes.
