Mumbai Crime: Caught Drink Driving, MBA Student Bites Off Cop's Finger

MUMBAI: In a show of brazenness that has shaken up the police department, one of two MBA students caught for drink driving slapped a policeman while the other bit off a part of the little finger of a constable who came to his colleague's rescue.

Since the cops couldn't find the bitten-off portion of the little finger for nearly three hours, it could not be reattached and the constable will have to live without one-third of his finger for life.

Around 1 am on Sunday, a team of five constables from the Borivli police had set up a roadblock (nakabandi) on the Rajendra Nagar Bridge (rail over bridge) in Sumer Nagar. "At 2.50 am, we spotted two men on an Activa, which was being ridden in a rash and negligent manner. The men were also making a lot of noise. When we stopped them at the nakabandi, we noticed that both of them were reeking of alcohol," said Suresh Chaugule, one of the constables present for the nakabandi.

Violations galore

The men identified themselves as Ashvinkumar Ramnath Singh (29) and Abhishekh Jitendra Pandey (27). They had come to Mumbai from Delhi for their MBA and were staying in Charkop.

The policemen asked Pandey, who was riding the scooter, for a driving licence and papers, but they did not have anything. Pandey was not even wearing a helmet. The cops then decided to take the students to the police station, charge them for drink driving, and let them go in the morning. "When we escorted them to the police van, where they were supposed to wait, they were not even able to stand properly. I asked them why they were riding the scooter when they were drunk and one of them said, 'Daru piya to tu kar kya lega' (Yes, we have consumed alcohol. What can you do about it)," said Chaugule.

Singh than slapped Chaugule hard, prompting the other four constables to rush to the van to save him. Constable Deepak Gite was standing closest to Pandey and the latter immediately caught hold of Gite's left hand and bit his little finger. No one could understand what was happening and a huge amount of blood began flowing from Gite's hand.

Finger hunt

Gite was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivli, while Singh and Pandey were taken to the Borivli police station. Doctors at the hospital asked the cops to take Gite to another hospital since one-third of his finger was missing. When the constable was taken to the Lifeline Hospital in Malad, the doctors asked the cops for the portion that had been bitten off.

"We searched the whole area where he had been bitten and even looked inside the police van. We finally found the missing portion of the finger in a corner of the van, under the seat, around 6 am," said a policeman from the team. The doctors, however, said that it was too late to attach the missing portion, and Gite was discharged from the hospital last evening.

Police said that Pandey and Singh had been drinking heavily. They had run out of alcohol and were going to Borivli (East) to buy some more.

Senior Police Inspector Narayan Khaire, from Borivli police station, said, "We have arrested Singh and Pandey, who are from Delhi and came to Mumbai to pursue their MBA degrees. They reside in Charkop. They were produced in the holiday court and remanded in police custody."

The duo was charged under Sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the IPC, and relevant sections of the Bombay Police Act.

Was watching an interview on NDTV with Major Mukund Varadarajan's wife. Yes she was very poised and stoic dignified.But what did people expect her to be?Did they expect her to sob and breakdown and cry?

Am speaking from personal experience. Sometimes grief takes the form of stoicism and dignified silence and that is not unusual. You know that you want everything to be perfect for the sake of your loved ones that drives you to do what needs to be done in a very dignified manner.

but yeah - the key international politics - china coming out to support pakistan...and India-US bromancing...the underlying tension between US-China is coming out strongly in the wave of Indo-Pak problems...

and did Pakistan yesterday trend -"rapepublic day"...totally dont appreciate this🤢 there is no need to mock our problems...when we Indians comes out to support Pakistan in peshawar attack on twitter..! even during the peshawar attack, there were tweets about how India is responsible for the attack🤢 and trending of #Indianterrorism was on! now how sick is that?!🤬

irrespective of the fact that I love their shows and songs/ singers and actors unconditionally to date - coz creativity and art goes beyond the stupid and disgusting politics played by some leaders to spite generations forever...

Id rather appreciate if these senseless India sucks tweets stop from the other side of the border!🤢🤢

and more than that, I think there is some tiff between contiloe PH and SP😆😆

FIRST SP announced ashoka...contiloe went ahead to do it at fast speed with rangeela...SP's plan crashed😆

then SP announced Siya ke ram and even started the promo...btw, m totally looking forward to it😃 toh contiloe announced hanuman with Sony😆

anyway, m gona be active on ashoka forum till they spoil it😆..😳 the promos are simply fantastic!👏

even though sidhart's dialogue delivery needs work from promos...I think his eyes are expressive like faisu⭐️

Congress to project Mandira Bedi' as its Delhi CM candidate

New Delhi. Due to the elections turning into a popularity contest which is heating up in Delhi, Congress has planned to bring in Mandira Bedi to contest for the CM's seat.

"Popularity contest? We will challenge them for a fashion contest!" said rare Congress supporter, "We also wanted someone who has both of the best qualities of the other candidates. Mandira has the last name of Kiran and she has come more times on TV than Arvind Kejriwal. Both qualities in one person? Checkmate!"

Unlike Kiran, this Bedi has all the support from Congress leaders, specially those from Youth Wing.

Mandira Bedi who was in Australia watching the Tri series was contacted by members of the Congress party who wanted her to immediately fly to India to contest in the elections. Since India was playing badly, Congress leaders assumed that she has a better chance of winning the elections with Congress than watching India win the tri-series.

"She is the perfect candidate for us. Due to constant travelling I heard that she even got a cough which brings the quality of Kejriwal here," said a supporter, "Kejriwal is challenging everyone for a public debate? We will challenge him for a public ramp walk."

Many Congress supporting techies have raised slogans such as "MB = 1024 KB", "MB > KB" referring to Mandira Bedi (MB) and Kiran Bedi (KB). Other congress supporters have supported the slogan hoping that some people will vote for them based on the innovation of the slogan at least.

"Mandira ji was a fashion model who has over 100,000 fans in Facebook," said a supporter, "We will definitely get all those votes. And to be frank, we have not included her twitter followers yet..."

Rahul Gandhi seemed to be very happy with the recommendation and mentioned that this will be his first step taken to empower women. When informed that even the previous Delhi CM was a woman, he looked puzzled for a second and commented that both women are from the pre-RTI and post-RTI era which are very different and complicated to explain. He further went on to explain the theory of relativity that he researched about during his time in Harvard and its possible uses in Indian politics.

Unfortunately for the supporters, Mandira Bedi has replied that she is not interested to contest in the Delhi elections or any politics for that matter.

Since thousands of posters saying "MB > KB" are already printed, Congress supporters are desperately searching for a candidate with initials MB to contest in the Delhi elections with assurances of getting free food (guaranteed butter chicken or biryani), accommodation and travel allowances till it gets over.
