I don't think they ever planned to show them getting back together.I think it is the people and the public who jumped the gun and said he is glorifying it.

They wanted to keep the friendship intact because that's the only way they can say that though they both loved each other their marriage didn't work because it has happened at an age it shouldn't have and their love and the bond they shared couldn't stop the marriage deteriorating because at that age they are not equipped deal with pressures of marriage family responsibilities and long distance marriage.

If they had not continued with their friendship it would have looked like the marriage failed because other things and not because it is child marriage.
