Meri Naam Bhi Zoya Farooqui hai!
No one person is 2 dimensional, all bad or all good. Everyone has a good and bad side, a culmination of our childhood experiences and expectations in life. I believe QH is a story of a girl who searches for her family, finds love, and the lives that
are connected to her.
Here's to the girl who appealed to our imagination, exploded through stereotypes and is so adorable!! Calls herself sabse bada Salman Khan fan , she comes up with hilarious shayeri , most well known for her jeans and being a runaway bride! Asad calls her a toofan, who came and changed everything, even
him.
Right at the beginning, I was absolutely taken by how close Zoya was with her Jeeju. So sweet was their relationship that he would sportingly laugh along with her
funny ways when Zeenat would balk and look to the sky as though pleading for help. Anwar is a strong character with great chemistry with Zoya, he should make a comeback.
I loved her since the day she programmed the voice password in Zil-e-ilahi's phone , which made him say I'm sorry Zoya' over and over! Really a LOL moment for me!
Although she really pissed off Asad royally, she stood her ground and wouldn't let him bully her. She did carry it too far but it was fun watching as Mr. Khan struggled with
an anomaly in his sterile and neat life.
Behind all the cheerfulness, positivity and bravado, stands a lonely girl who wants a happy family of her own. Needing to find her Abbu, she scoured Bhopal with old
photos and a music box. She is unaware of the story of the gudiya factory fire, and how it relates to her mother and her nightmares and scars. That's the shocker we are heading towards in the finale. So far
it has been Zoya helping Mr. Khan
reconcile with his father, and find out why he left them all those years ago. Little does she know the real Raaz in this mystery.
Right from the beginning, Zoya had bonded with Dilshaad , she imagined that Dilshaad was how her own mother would have been like if she was alive. They have supported each other from the start. It was in defense of Zoya, that Asad experienced the unfamiliar feeling of anger from both his mother and sister (post Akram). Until then he had been the Jahanpanah of the house with spotlessly clean mugs of coffee and carefully arranged cutlery, and not a wayward word upon him.
She became a sister to Najma, who was struggling with her bhaijaan's strict ways.
When she got eve-teased, it was Zoya s karate and her infamous kali-mirchi spray
who came to her rescue. I remember how Zoya stood in the jail cell afterwards, comforting a terrified Najma who feared her brother's wrath of her clothing, it is their secret till today. Do you remember
that scene where Tamatar's wig fell off while doing crunches, as Ammi and Zoya flabbergastedly tried to distract Asad from discovering her? Hilarious!!
Kehte hai, mohabbat makes a person behave out of character. This is so true with Zoya when she's with Asad. An unstoppable force meets an immovable object. Although not opposites as Batman and Joker, they have both kept their principles intact but found loopholes to
accommodate for each others' beliefs. It is so poignant when she doesn't answer Asad's calls when she's mad at him and he keeps calling anyway. How he takes care of
her even when she doesn't want him
to. Their fights are loud and affect the whole house, but they never stay mad at each other too long. How she waits for hours in the marketplace for Asad to pick her up, failing which she goes to Khan Villa to find it locked, she actually went back to Ayaan because she wanted Asad to come and take her back properly. Now, the normal Zoya would have just climbed up a
window and waited indoors, wouldn't
she? Love makes girls weird.
She is yin to Asad's yang.
Opposites that complement, his plate to her spoon (LOL!). As much as she taught him to relax , he taught her to be a little less brash and in-your-face. She's turned out quite graceful now hasn't she? Just as "the graceful girl" that Asad always wanted in his life. Look how graceful she was throughout the Maburt fiasco at SM.
Most poignant scenes:
* As she chatters nervously about what she would do when she first meets her Abbu while Asad swallows painfully as he leads her to his supposed grave. When she weeps bereft at his grave, my tears fell
unheeded too.
* When she thinks that Asad is running to her at the Bus crash scene but instead he ran for Tanveer.
* The scene where she tries to vie for attention while "Jammy" and Tannu relive their childhood memories. Too painful for me, I skip this scene as it bothers my dil too much. Poor thing.
* Did you guys notice how she is the only one who can yell at Asad and actually change his way of thinking? The first time she yelled was when he was berating her for wearing a miniskirt. As she scolded him for being judgemental; he just stared her dumbfoundedly and stripped of arrogance. The only other time was when she ranted at him for betraying her trust and breaking her heart.
* Her (first) nikah scene with Asad. This scene haunts me still. As she waits for Asad while "Kalma Tera Naam Ka" plays in the background. Goosebumps, with a sense of dread.
* Sitting yet again at her Nikaah when Asad comes and takes her aside to call it off. (Truly, CVs give the poor girl a break huh? ) Then she actually walks up to Asad and consoles him for making the correct decision and taking responsibility for his baby' with Tanveer. Class act.
Hai Allah, my heart still breaks remembering when they told Asad that they were accidentally married. What amazing acting Surbhi and Karan! The pain was so palpable as she pleads with Asad not to take her to SM, and when she just sat there alone at the entrance afterwards
dejected. And her fury and fierce
independence at her ill-treatment by the brothers.
" AAP AAYI. Toofan ki tarah. Aur jab toofan aata hai, sab kuch badal deta hai. Jaise aap meri zindagi mein aayi aur sab kuch badal
diya...mujhe bhi badal diya. Pehle main sirf apne dimaag ki sunta tha. Aapke aane ke baad pata chala iss seene mein...kambahkat dil bhi hai! "
