Hola Ladies, AD is zalim to the power of 100 left home at six just got home. Will catch up with you guys tomorrow after getting few hours of shut eye ( hopefully!)

Few words about book thief before I go. I enjoyed reading it not because its a exceptional piece of work but because its the first time I read a book my daughter loved. Few pages in to the book I started wondering how can a 13yr old like this book so I asked her she goes its a story of "other side" of A. nazi Germany, B. Death, I mean death the ultimate bad guy but as you read you see the other side of him and that he is sorry for what he does. And she went on and on with his quotes leaving me excited and perplexed at the same time then I asked her to tell me about the last 5 books she read ( She goes Finishing Becca, My brother Sam is dead, The bell jar, Fever 1793 etc...) now I started worrying she goes mom whats the fun in reading a book if its all dreamy, delightful! BUT dont worry I read my share of pretty little liars, Harry Styles fan fiction :))
Lets just say a very proud mama moment for Shoomie!
Promise will write my views of the book as soon as I get some breathing room. Couldnt resist sharing my little girl's input!

Rabba Ve ladkis, 🤗
BOOK THIEF - Da BoM

Nice review Heineken... I think I should have read your pros on the book BEFORE starting to read the book 😉

First off I should state this isn't my kind of book... just to set the table for my comments. Art ---- books, movies, TV ---- is very much a matter of taste; this wasn't to mine. I found Death as a narrator horribly gimmicky... designed for effect rather than organic to the content. I guess I value the sense of authenticity over much else and this was sort of the "death knell" (pun intended 😛) for me. On the face of it the themes of duality - of inside and outside lives, of good and evil - of books and words exerting a higher power ought to have been powerful and touching but they didn't quite come together for me. Not even the final words of death - they felt gimmicky to the last. I'll also confess I feel somewhat uneasy when a context such as this one - the holocaust, the era of Nazi Germany which marks one of mankind's most cruel times - does not touch me. I feel "un-empathetic" and cold, like I ought not to. But then it's the exact same reason that the grim reaper narrator and the highly evocative landscape also feel manipulative. It's something to set aside and move on. I was glad to be done with The Book Thief.

Beautiful reviews, Heineken and Savs⭐️ Make me want to leave everything and pick up the book again😊 AD has been brutal and I have not been able to finish the book. The little that I have read, I liked. Strangely enough, the unusual mechanics of narration did not bother me...to me it was kind of how they begin each segment with a frozen shot of its end in NCIS. With you Heineken on the poignancy of Liesel's love of books and her struggle to get them.

Maanfi for not completing the book in time😳 Will have more to say when I do.

The book is not an easy read at all Doc. I had to push myself past the first few chapters to get going. Definitely not one you can unwind with but I had a much easier time reading it after Max entered the picture.

Chicas, been a while since I caught up. Happy holi to everyone celebrating
DrS, I didn't like the book much, but your daughter's reactions --- muah! --- adorable! ❤️ Not surprised you feel warmly about the book.

Also, want to report on a wonderful movie weekend. Caught Kangana's The Queen yesterday. It was heartwarming and sweet and funny. Kangana was in fine form and for once I was thrilled at the direction hindi cinema is taking. A female protagonist at the heart of the story, one who is real and natural and authentic and full of the insecurity and awkwardness that we've all gone thru but also brave and courageous. A perfect movie it's not, some of the gags went on for far too long but I LOVED it, simply for the way Rani is portrayed in the film. Now if only TV would start embracing such parts for women *sigh*

Today we caught The Grand Budapest Hotel which was magnificent. Also touching and sweet and beautifully shot and rip-roaringly funny. This is a not to be missed film.

Finally, if you haven't caught this already I wanted to shared two TED talks by Chimamanda Adichie.

Lines from her feminist talk were featured in Beyonce's newest album in the song Frozen.

'm going to start reading Adichie's newest novel Americanah after I caught an interview on it on NPR's Fresh Air
