As for his GF, well I read this joint interview of theirs ages ago where she talks about how she convinced him to start dating. I have only seen two or so IVs. She's sweet, open, nice, trusting and she has some issues in her past. She clearly cares for him more than he does her - itna toh dikhta tha mujhe or maybe I'm too ArSha obsessed. So anyways, I think she's with him because he's (comparatively) a good guy and honest (her words, if I remember). And he's with her because Shaks won't have him. Don't throw chappals at me, yeh mera head canon hai.
