So I'm kickstarting this sob fest 48 hours in advance to share something that means more than the world to me. I wrote this in my journal but i think its meaningful enough to share with you ladies because heck regardless of it all weve shared a lot over the last couple of years and weirdly enough are part of my life. These are my sentiments and mine alone. You can agree, disagree, pretend to know it all, or not care at all but here it is. 😊In less than 48 hours the beginning of the end will start...what began a dream of a boy in international cricket wearing that Indian hat on November 15th 1989 will come to an end on a very similar day 24 years later. He had greatness written all over him but how truly great he would become was something no one had imagined.
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar the name every Indian knows...every cricket fan admires...love him or love to hate him you know all you really want to do is be like him! For 24 years he has been the face of Indian Cricket...he can be found in every Indian city on billboards, hoardings, sometimes as the roofs of peoples homes in the jhopad pati , on tv, in the malls and for a very long time on the cricket field everytime India stepped out to play in any form of cricket. The man needs no introduction because to many like me he is Cricket.
To sum Sachin up in a word is impossible but I want to thank Sachin for a lot. Thank you for teaching me cricket. It bought me closer to my dad in more than words will ever be able to describe. Thank you for teaching so many of us the meaning of team spirit, of how to be loyal, of how to stand up for what you think is right, how to apologize and walk away with dignity when wrong, for being passionate about something bigger than yourself, for believing in others when no one believed in themselves, for brining a nation together in good times and in bad and overall thank you for being you consistently for 24 years in the international arena. People change, you didnt!
A part of me is thrilled for you...at 40 and after 24 years of being everything to everyone this is a well deserved exit and break or you but a larger part of me is devastated. It ends the era of cricket i know. My era where Sachin ruled supreme...where everytime you walked on the field the hopes and prayers of billions were with you...where classy cricket and shots were played and when cricket was more than a sport was true passion and love.
The saddest thing for me is letting go of this past...the one that has been my entire life since i was 7 and one my son will never witness in his lifetime because there is no one else that will be able to replace you for a very very very long time. I just never thought this day would come and that if it ever did...it wouldnt be this difficult...
For the memories, the fun times in Sharjah, Mumbai and Nagpur...Thank You!
It was an honor and priviledge to watch you play 😊
For one last time tomorrow night i will tune in to catch him live...and i really and truly hope he kicks some Indie butt!!! 😆
