They look at your final marks for the first semester of grade 12 and midterm marks for second semester. If you havent already been accepted, your final marks for second semester go through as well and the uni can make their decision. Thats where some of the late acceptances come from as well. They also see grade 11 marks so most people get accepted in the normal time frame from March to May.
