There are so many Damon photosets and graphics out there that I call pity-sets and pity-graphics. People list all the bad things that happened to the guy, and then everybody cries in tags "poor Damon I'm so sorry for you". I don't understand this because I never feel this way about him. Yes, his life is like one big never-ending rejection; yes, he was never enough; yes, he suffered; he's been at war; yes, his father treated him poorly probably because Damon wanted to be himself and not his puppy; yes, his brother betrayed him; yes, he loses people he cares about; yes, the girl he loves chooses the other guy. I probably should pity him but I never do. Because he never stops fighting, he doesn't just give up, he doesn't complain, he owns his actions ALWAYS, he never blames others, he acknowledges his mistakes and he prefers the harsh truth over sugar-coating reality. The only time he actually said out loud that he's hurt was the end of 2x12. Three seasons. ONCE. It happened once. He's a very strong person and I treat him like one. After everything he's been through he didn't lose hope, no matter what he might say. I doubt he'll ever lose hope Elena will choose him, because if he does he just wouldn't be Damon. He wants that desperately and he'll never stop hoping. But another amazing thing about him is that even if she never gives in, even if he thinks he lost her he'll stay and help her if she needs, and protect her, because getting in her pants is not the point. He's strong. He's devoted. He's a fighter. He's amazing. How do you pity someone who jumps up while like every bone in his body is broken and grabs the guy by the throat because that guy hit his girl? All I feel is admiration because he gets through everything and still stands and keeps his head up. Never pity.
