It is hard to believe that there are still folks out there who still deny the existence of the Holocaust and the extermination of 6 million Jews. These Holocaust deniers cannot refute the huge amount of evidence that still exists and in many cases is well preserved. One place that is the best place for these foolish deniers is the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC. I hope to go some day and pay my respects.

On this special day when we pay our respects to the victims of the tragedy we must remember that the world intervened too late for many of the victims. After the small number of Jews who were liberated, every one hoped that this horrible event would never repeat itself. Unfortunately history did repeat itself in Bosnia where thousands of Moslems were exterminated and tortured until the world once again intervened under the leadership of then President Clinton and NATO. Which led to the Dayton Peace Accords that ended this Holocaust and ended the Bosnian-Serb war.

It would also behoove us to remember individuals like Oskar Schindler who was a member of the Nazi Party at the time but in secret saved more than a 1000 Jews through his ammunition factory. On whom was based the very poignant movie called Shindler's List. It won the Best Picture Oscar and rightfully so.

There is also the case of the Iranian diplomat named Abdol-Hossein Sardari Qajar who was stationed in Vichy, France during WWII who saved 1000s of Iranian Jews and non-Iranian Jews from the Holocaust by issuing them blank Persian passports and getting them out of France and back to Iran.

There are many unspoken and unknown heroes of this part of world history that must never be forgotten.

As the saying for 9-11 victims goes "We shall never forget".

fantastic post suvi. (:

i studied the holocaust in year 10 - and i remember very specifically a story that the nazi government released for german children. it was called the poisonous mushroom.
i recommend everyone to read this to gain an understanding of how the nazi government used children's stories as propaganda.
the story made me cry - young german children would read this and believe the jews were all like this.

this is the story. please do read it.

Thanks Kaushalya Fan for your awesome post...Took me back in time to remember many heroes who dared to go against the grain to help out the hapless victims.There were so many unsung heroes who did valiant acts during that time but no one knows them.They put their lives in jeopardy for them...Ironic isn't it when evil was trying to destroy you had good rising up to save lives?????Hats off to those brave souls who made a difference in the lives of the hapless victims.

It'd be great if you can post the pictures and your experience. Though it's going to be a painful re-visit for you, it's going be very informative for everyone here and real impact of this horror would be understood even better. Like they say "A picture speaks a thousand words" and in events like these it speaks the unspoken also.When you look back at such events and the horrors innocent people have gone through our lives seem so blessed.

@KaushalyaFan: Informative post.Thanks :-)

@Prinsesse.Suvi: Great thread :-) Thanks for it :-)

usually I dont post much on IF, but this post compelled me to do so...about a year ago while flipping channels I came across a black and white movie which didnt look all that old (if you get what I mean)...I watched the whole of it and I cant tell you how much the movie "Schindler's List" affected me...the images haunted me for days...before this Hitler and the Nazis were mere names to me...I couldnt ( and still cant ) believe that Hitler tried to wipe out an entire race...9 million people killed because they were "sub human " according to some twisted logic ??? this is perhaps one of the blackest chapters in the human history...such an event should never be repeated again...

@Prinsesse.Suvi thank you for this post...
