It's funny you should say that about Bella, Sayani, because just the other day I was reading an interview with Richelle Mead (she is the author of the Vampire Academy books) and one of the questions they asked her was this - Some have criticized Twilight for having an anti-feminist message, interpreting Bella as a weak woman enthralled by a possessive and much more powerful man. When writing for younger readers, do you feel the author has a responsibility to craft a positive message, whether it's determining whether your heroine is empowered or including relatable teen issues like body image?


So, you see, you're not the only one who thinks that. She is quite possibly one of the worst role models for teenage girls, I personally think. And you're right, she did use Jacob. She walked all over him and his feelings. I know she loved Edward, but she expected to have them both and didn't seem to see that there was anything in wrong in that. I quite enjoyed the books when I read them, but since I've read other vampire novels I've discovered my enjoyment of them has decreased significantly. There are much better series out there and the heroines are more relatable, at least for me.

I would recommend Richelle's books to anyone. I thoroughly enjoyed the VA books. Rose is a great heroine with lots of spunk and she stands up for what she believes in and fights for what is right. I like her two love interests too, they are both total opposites and that is why the love triangle worked. And it's about so much more than that too. It's about friendship and growing up too.

i would love to read VA then. have you read House of Night, Anu? in that series vampire have tattoos. it's like this: if you are a very powerful vampire, you will have more and more intricate tattoos😆

I just bought the first 3 in The House of Night series. Going to start reading them soon. Oohh, the tattoo thing sounds kinda cool. There's tattoos in the VA books too, except not for the vamps, for the dhampirs and the Alchemists. I think you'd like them. They were really good fun and action-packed.
