A still from Kuch Toh Log Kahenge

Pakistani TV series "Dhoop Kinare" was the rage on both sides of the border during the 1980s and Sony is trying to cash in on the popularity of the hospital rommance with its new show " Kuch Toh Log Kahenge", an adaptation of the Rahat Kazmi and Marina Khan starrer.

The theme of "Kuch Toh Log Kahenge" is the same and so are the characters. While the role of Dr. Ahmer Ansari will be played by Mohnish Behl, TV actress Kritika Kamra will enact the role of Dr. Zoya. Kamlesh Pandey, who scripted "Rang De Basanti", is re-writing the script to strike a chord among audiences of both nations. He says the biggest challenge for the writer is to do justice to the characters and the story, which was originally scripted by Haseena Moin. "I feel writing for television is the biggest challenge for any writer.

And though I love TV so much, but off late, I was pained to see the kind of serials and reality shows that have flooded the small screen," Pandey told IANS. "When, I was offered to re-write this serial, I was in a fix. First, to adapt the storyline of a serial which has been appreciated so well is a task in itself. Secondly, to do justice to the original story of Haseenaji was the biggest challenge," he added. Promos of the show are already generating curiosity among people and Sneha Rajani of Sony Entertainment Television feels the show will help the channel to strengthen its position in the market.

"We are primarily focussing on fiction shows, but they have to be fresh and simple. So, after audiences accepted 'Bade Acche Laggte Hai' and 'Saas Bina Sasural', we wanted to further strengthen our position," said Rajani, Sony's senior executive vice president and business head. Set in a hospital, "Kuch Toh Log..." is a love story of two doctors from two different generations - Ashutosh (Mohnish), a 38-year-old surgeon is married to his duty and is a disciplinarian, while Nidhi Verma (Kritika) is a 24-year-old carefree, jovial, MBBS graduate. The show depicts how they get attracted to each other but are unable to express their feelings because of the huge age difference. The show premiers Oct 3.

Dhoop Kinare meaning at the edge of the sunshine in Urdu was a Pakistani television serial presented by the PTV network. The show centers around a team of doctors in a hospital in Karachi and revolves around their routines at the hospital and private lives at home. The show starred Rahat Kazmi and Marina Khan in lead roles, was directed by Sahira Kazmi and written by Haseena Moin.

In the early days of PTV, drama serials were usually applauded for being richly diverse in their plots and direction. They were celebrated not just in Pakistan but their quality content was cherished over the border in India as well. A long list of such dramas may usually include Dhoop Kinare as one of those at the top. The drama serial enjoyed seemingly undeniable success for two further decades after it finished airing on television. This serial is usually said to have promoted the careers of both Rahat Kazmi and Marina Khan as one of the most sought after stars in Pakistani television industry.

Characters

Dr Ahmer Ansari

Rahat Kazmi as Dr Ahmer Ansari in Dhoop Kinare. This role made him as one of the most promising and prominent stars in the Pakistani television industry.

Dr Ahmer Ansari (Rahat Kazmi) is bereaving the death of his foster father (played by Arshad Mehmood) whom he calls Baba, an affectionate word for father in Urdu. He vaguely remembers that the professor adopted him but has no knowledge that his father had a daughter and that she gave birth to a girl who lives somewhere in the same city.

In his will, Ahmer's father leaves behind everything but the house to Ahmer. The house he leaves to his granddaughter, Ahmer's niece, whom he had never met while he was still alive. Ahmer while trying to reminisce his past encounters with his father (shown to the viewers in flashback sequences) gathers the true meaning of the two-faced replies of his father.

Throughout the first few episodes, Ahmer couldn't come to terms with the death of his foster father and the sudden emergence of his niece who now owns the house he lives in and expects a responsible person to take over his father's abode. Incidentally, this foster niece appears in his hospital as an intern. While he does not know who she is, he finds the immature and almost childish Zoya Ali Khan. From the time he meets Zoya, he plans to educate her behaviour by criticising her at every turn of event and to teach her a lesson in accepting her mistakes.

From the time he meets Zoya, he plans to educate her behaviour by criticising her at every turn of event and to teach her a lesson in accepting her mistakes.

Dr Zoya Ali Khan

Marina Khan as Dr Zoya Ali Khan in the serial Dhoop Kinare. Her carefree attitude and short hair made her into an iconic symbol in Pakistani television.

Dr Zoya Ali Khan (Marina Khan) is a cheerful young doctor who brings joy to the mundane life at the hospital and in the life of Ahmer. Although, her carefree attitude leaves no other choice but for Ahmer to educate her into humility when life demands a lot from the seriousness it gather along its way.

The series starts with a young Zoya trying hard to convince her father (Qazi Wajid) to not let her go to medical school, but instead gets to know that her dying grandfather and mother both wanted her to be a doctor. A phone call that her father attends gives her the much needed cheers for the day when the person on the other end explains that she just inherited a house that belonged to her grandfather.

Seeing that her father wants her to become a doctor to celebrate her dead mother's wishes, she takes admission in a medical school upon her father's constant pressurising. Not knowing that she'd meet Ahmer at the hospital, she retains her carefree antics in the seriousness of the hospital life and comes in critique of Ahmer.

Baba

Arshad Mehmood plays "Baba", the father of Dr Ahmer Ansari (played by Rahat Kazmi). He appears in Dream sequences from Dr Ahmer's past.

Baba

(Qazi wajid) plays Zoya's baba who is very close to Zoya and has raised her like a friend and who , after seeing ahmer finds out that he is zoya's uncle but doesn't tell Zoya about it.near the end he falls severely ill.

Anji

(kehkishan awan) plays anji,Zoya's best friend.who is later married to dr.Irfan (sajid hassan) who was a colleague of Zoya

Dad

(hameed wayne) plays a very strict father of anji .he forces her daughter in working with him in his office rather than doing interior designing.

Mum

Ishrat hashmi plays the mother of Anji

Dr. Irfan

(sajid hassan) beautifully played this character.he was a colleague of Zoya.he is a carefree docter and flirts with every girl he sees

Dr.Sheena Karamat

(badar khalil) played this jealous character very well.she was very close to Dr. Ahmer but he didn't seem to care that much about her.when she thinks that Dr. Ahmer is into Zoya ,she is very jealous and she meets her old college friend (Rizwan Wasti) and marries him but finds out that he was previously married to another woman and has children .in the end when she thinks that Ahmer has left Zoya and is going abroad she becomes very happy but doesn't know that he came back in the end for Zoya

faseelat bibi
