Eijaz Khan tipped to play lead in Sony's Metti Oli remake

Monday, June 13, 2011 | 12:57:07 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) 31 Comments Eijaz Khan tipped to play lead in Sony's Metti Oli remake

The grapevine has it that Eijaz Khan might make his comeback to fiction with Sony TV's upcoming show.

The buzz is that Eijaz Khan might soon be back with Sony Entertainment Television after Bhaskar Bharti with the UTV show, which will be the remake of the long running and popular Tamil show, Metti Oli.

As we know, the casting for the show has been on for a while now. Known faces like Chaitanya Chowdhury, Shubhangi Aatre, Anjali Abrol, Smriti Kalra etc were approached. However, the channel wanted a mix of experience and freshness in their leads. They wanted a fresh face for the female lead's role and a popular face to play the male lead.

A little birdie tells us, "A new face from Chandigarh has been roped in to play the second sister who is the lead. Another new girl has been finalized to play the elder sister. And talks with Eijaz Khan are on for the lead's role. The news coming in is that Eijaz is interested in taking up the role, and in all probability might be finalized".

Metti Oli is the story of five sisters who live with their father who is financially not sound.

We tried our level best to reach to Eijaz, but were unsuccessful.

Our efforts to get a confirmation from UTV was also futile.

Let's wait to see if Eijaz is the next big name to make a comeback to TV or not..

Hmmm...Eijaz is back, huh. Was wondering where he disappeared to. When will we see this article for MB?! Anu, does it seem to you as if MB & Ekta have fallen out?

LOL dunno, Vas...I've given up hope of ever seeing an article for MB like this...I don't think he's had a falling out with Ekta...his priorities only are different...he just doesn't seem interested in fiction on desi TV, period...all he did last time were some reality shows naa...he hasn't bothered attempting TV fiction again cuz he seems intent on only making it in bollywood if he can...but wahaan bhi he hasn't managed anything much from what I can see...he seems content doing lame fashion shows and page 3 party appearances meanwhile🥱

Eijaz too is trying to make it in movies but he hasn't written off TV...he keeps doing roles from time to time like Bhaskar Bharti...he was good in that show.

Yeah, maybe his "priorities" are different 🤔. It's hard not to feel disappointed though that he hasn't done anything substantial since KZK. At least Tina did do that DD show, crappy as it was. Full respect to his Bolly ambitions but as you say, Eijaz is trying to crack Bolly and still manages a show here and there. Ronit Roy is the perfect example of managing the two. I mean, the man is in a twice-weekly and still able to film Udaan and go to Holly for the Tagore film, which I am still desperately waiting for 😍

Anyway, sometimes it seems to me that MB has been typecast in the role he was in - even in his film Kismat Konnection he was a watered-down and more annoying version of UD. I am sure he can be versatile, but until he actually bothers to show us that, how can we know?

Sigh.

Anyway, how are you? Looking forward to BALH today?

@bold: Totally agree...honestly MB hasn't REALLY made an effort to be versatile...he claims he has big bollywood ambitions but doesn't seem like he's attempted to pursue it much aggressively...especially considering he already has a dad for a producer...even if he was the producer of CID type of stuff😆

MB ka funda mujhe toh samajh nahin aata...he appears LAZY more than anything now😆...the other actors actually seem more practical about their careers and their attempts to balance their career goals along with the options on TV as well.

Oh yeah Sukhi had told me about Ronit's Tagore movie...I'm intrigued to see that too.

Yeppp deffo looking forward to BALH today!😃😆

TOTALLY agree! Esp. as you say, he has the connections but is still doing nothing but lazing his life away at social events. Sometimes I wonder whether he simply thinks he's better than TV, or that because he was this incredibly popular character once upon a time ago, that he automatically deserves entry into Bolly. Very few telly actors can successfully make the transition into Bolly. Rajeev Khandelwal made it with one film, but since disappeared. Ram Kapoor and RR are toh totally different leagues anyway. Eijaz has only managed bit parts...I wish he would just think of a plan B.

Me excited for BALH too - and just read that article that EK fired her first director...lol, she probably read all our concerns on here 😆

LOL I do think he does think that, Vas... that he's better than TV...well seeing as most of TV is saas-bahu crap, I understand why he'd think that but if he REALLY wanted to try other options, some stuff does come up from time to time...why doesn't he bother to try YRF shows? Heck even his WIFE landed a cameo in a YRF show like R.com and not HIM?! LOL...isn't HE supposed to have known Shruti longer? And even that contact didn't manage to land him anything given that he IS obviously talented...then obviously the only conclusion to draw is that he isn't that interested...he seems to have some misguided idea that TV is time waste and he should only wait for some magical lead role in a movie🤔...I have serious doubts about that ever happening...lol

Rajeev did make it...possibly the only one I can remember in recent times to land a lead role and not a sidey character role...and he did very good too...and it's not like it was a fluke...he has lead roles in more movies coming up too...he's carving a niche for himself in the independent small films industry...RK and RR are veterans who've carved their own niche too...roles like Udaan prove that. At the same time they are practical enough to still do TV from time to time.

LOL yeah I read about Ekta firing the BALH director...but she needs to focus more on scripting issues...try to give the show some freshness cuz otherwise many characters are typical types.

Hey Anu, Vasu and LadyM! :)

Just replying to some posts from the previous CC ...

Haww Anu, you mean dil ka dactar was in the running to play Arnav? And he didn't get the part? Dang it! *heart shatters into a million pieces*

LOL I'm proud of you, Sarah...even if you still sound a little unsure with the "I think"...now if only the rest of the junta would outgrow this b.s. at some point too.

Don't get your hopes up - the rest of the junta is never outgrowing this b.s. As long as there are teenagers around, nonsense of this sort will continue to attract them. If one generation outgrows it, another one will come along to carry forward the legacy. 😆

That's not so pathetic. Even I was watching this show yesterday thinking that had this been 5 years ago, I would probably have loved those scenes too...but I guess it was all about the hormonal teenage thing - as long as we grow out of that, we're good. it's the people who don't grow out of it that scare me.

True, I guess it was all about the hormones at that point. Plus, back then this concept was still somewhat refreshing. There weren't 96567457568 Khushi's and Arnav's running around on Indian television. Now this genre has been done to death. It's the same old ghisi piti kahani everywhere. A poor girl crosses paths with some rich tycoon, heated face-offs ensue, she winds up working for him and they fall in lowe. So unoriginal.

Also, I still like those love-hate relationships shows I just need it to a) be logical, or rather, believable, if not logical and b) have much, much, much, MUCH better actors than we currently have on screen. If I have those two things, then even if the story is the most unoriginal thing ever, I can live with it. Sad but true.

LOL, join the club. I would still go for a love-hate relationship too, if the screenplay is different and the actors are good enough. Sometimes an old concept can work if it is presented in a unique and novel manner. Take the movie Band Baja Baraat for instance ' its concept was so unoriginal on paper. Boy meets girl, they start out platonically, girl falls for boy, he doesn't reciprocate her feelings until she finds someone else, big confession scene, happy ending. It was very cliched but because the presentation was refreshing, the movie was a hit.
