"I always wanted play a character my age," says the actress who's finally happy to be part of a young show. We chatted up Rati and here's what she had to say. Read on...

What's your character like in Miley Jab Hum Tum?

I play a bubbly small town girl who comes to Mumbai for studies along with her sister. Our big-city bred cousins try to make our life hell.

What about romance ?

Every show needs a romantic track right? Mayank (Arun Bijlani) and I are poles apart. We clash in the beginning before eventually falling in love. There will be more drama to just watch out for.

Apart from you and Arjun, the rest of the cast has new actors...

Yes. But at one time even we were new right.

What according to you is the USP of the show?

The youth flavour with all the fun, frolic and romance. The socio-cultural shock that small town people face is also an added attraction.

Will your character undergo a makeover from a cute simple girl to a sexy babe?

I have no idea. But even if it does it will not be something that will shake the television industry by its roots.

After your debut show on Zee TV, Har Ghar... ended you had claimed that you wanted to do something different?

Yes and I have succeeded. I am the first bahu to cross over to a younger avatar.

Although this show is only a week old many people have come forward and asked me whether I was the same Prathna from Har Ghar... 'You look so different!', they'd say. Actually, I have shed a lot of weight and have gone in for a complete new younger look for this show.

What went wrong with Har Ghar... ?

I had always maintained that it was a good show. Unfortunately, the change in time slot brought about its downfall. I had a wonderful time doing the show and even now I am in contact with some of the cast members.

Would you mind doing more saas-bahu shows?

Why not? Having proved my versatility in doing different kind of roles, I am now game for anything including reality shows both participating and anchoring.

And what about the drama that happens on reality shows?

I really wonder whether such stunts are scripted or not. I also have doubts whether they really raise the TRPs or not. All said and done, I will always keep my personal and professional life poles apart.

Coming back to Miley... will a youth show really click, given the fact that saas-bahu shows still rule the roost.

Did Dill Mil Gaye not click? Youth content has a different audience compared to say a family soap. I have never believed in TRP. The ratings of Har Ghar... were definitely more then Dill Mil...but it was still taken off.

Share some experiences during the shoot of Miley Jab Hum Tum?

Unlike in real life, my character is the butt of most pranks. I was the biggest terror during my college days. So it was just like reliving those carefree days. It was fun!
