I have a little to say about Anjaana Anjaani.
I enjoyed the movie. Not trying to cover up the holes here, but having a very close friend who is/was suicidal helps me relate to the movie a bit more than others, I guess.
We question how lame is it to die over a boy who cheated on you, or who does that in todays day and age? Some people do. It is stupid but still real. We never see the 'depth' in Kiara's character to expect her to move on with her life. They try to justify that when she says that 'she has always been dependent on others her whole life' and now living by her own, trying to get over is expectedly hard. She has found her abode in drinking and partying. Her character came out as a wannabe, because that's how it was meant to be.
Don't we see/hear about all these people who kill themselves over something we find so ridiculous. It might be to us, not to others. Everybody is not as strong willed as some of us might be.
Again, I am not justifying the act or anything, I am just trying to give a different perspective. And believe me when I say this, I am number one anti-suicide but after having learned and spending time with my friend helping her get out of that suicidal phase as given me a whole new outlook to look at such cases.
The movie could have done without melodramatic friends, shirtless scenes, some forced laughs and a lot of other things.
However, I found it overall entertaining. Songs were awesome!
My favorite scene in the movie is when Ranbir is leaving and Priyanka hugs him from behind. Also, when the doctor says "What is wrong with this generation? Some (terminally ill) people would do anything to live and some of you would do anything to die." The message to take home is not how you will magically meet all these Indians in NY when you wanna kill yourself but rather to realize that there are people around us, the ones you expect the least, to have had suicidal thoughts, some just superficial, some genuine and try to act upon it.
I did not expect greatness out of this movie and therefore, I liked it.
