And here goes one last thing before I log off... I wanted to share these vids anyway but now in the context of the superb discussions that Aishicakes and Nishicakes (lolz can I call you that 😛) have prompted, they are even more relevant. It's a two-parter of a bhajan by Narendra Chanchal, who among us northerners is a household name because of the Devi Maa bhajans he sings - lolz when we get to those festivals discussions Anisha mentioned, I don't think I'd be able to discuss my Navratri celebrations without mentioning him. Anyway, in this bhajan he tells the story of Raskhan, a Pathan from Kabul who became a great devotee of Shri Krishna during the 1600s. When I get time next week or week after I'll translate the whole thing (unless somebody is kind enough to do it for me before then... Deeps? Shivang bhaiya? 😆), but basically the story goes that one day, he went to a paan stall in Kabul and saw a portrait of little Kanha, fell in love with him, wondered why he's shoe-less, and decided that he was gonna find this adorable kid and put a pair of shoes on him. He made them, went about searching for him, got ostracized from his community for becoming so attached to a Hindu figure and when he reached Vrindavan, he was treated just as badly for being an outsider. He was abused and left on the roadside near the temple since they wouldn't let him in, and - you guessed it - Shri Krishna himself came to him and fulfilled his wish and made him the great poet-saint he is known as today. The most significant line that reminded me of our current discussions is the last one, where he says "... apni bhakti ki shakti se nirakaar saakaar karo" - you too should persevere like Raskhan and with the strength of your devotion, give the formless one a form. That kind of further solidifies that the forms God takes are of our choosing, just so we can cultivate love and devotion for him - they're different for each person because they represent God's devotion towards us!Like Tulsidas's "jaaki rahi bhaavna jaisi, prabhu murati tin dekhi taisi" when everyone at the swayamvar sees Shri Ram as they want to see him - and also in the Maharaas, "tribhuvan ka swami bhakton ka das hai!" 😍 Anyway enough of my rant, here are the vids... enjoy!!!

And here is an example of Raskhan's beautiful poetry, RJ had used it in SK in the scene where the elder gopis make Shri Krishna - the master of the whole universe -dance for a bowl of buttermilk... subtitles are there, so enjoy!!!:

@deeps-the fanfic was simply ADORABLE, you incorporated each bro's personality beautifully. Hats off yaar now you've spoilt me n i want 10 more! Ati sundar!

@aish-hi sweets! Hope you had an awesome bday! So heres my take on your friend's ques. I'm taking an hon seminar on bhaktiyog n this was the topic of our 1st class since only 3/20of us are desi though thw prof is a brit by mistake lol mlre on that later. Anywho the thing is, all of us can say that we're gonna pray to a formless impersonal absolute -nirakaar bhakti - but very few of us can actually do that right. Its like when you go to kirtan n there are tnose people who go "yeah yeah, i'm singing in my head". But their mind could be going on a world tour n back, God only knows. Similarly if we say that we're going to pray to one formless God, but our minds aren't "there" yet cuz we are conscious of the body and all it sees/smells/tastes/etc, then how are we ever going to cultivate devotion? We would just get all confused at what God might be, and give up on prayer altogether. So instead, our great saints n sages came up with this tradition of saakaar bhakti so we could think of God as anything we want in order to be able to love him. It could be as simple as a shaligram or as complex as those vishwaroop portraits - the form depends on whatever the believer wants, as long as its something you can have feelings for. What on the surface is so confusing to these people is actually the most beautiful thing about our tradition, the complete freedom it gives its followers so much so that even God's appearance and name are for you to choose!

Which leads me to Anisha's topic. Gotta thank you big time for encouraging such meaningful discussions here hun, you are really an asset to this CC... Plz keep at it, luv it! To me, being a Hindu is all about that pluralism, tne freedom to worship who we want, how we want with virtually no chance of being wrong. That and the easy availibility of 2nd chances rather than eternal hellfires. More later, phone's dying. But thanks again, looking fwd to more great discussions like this!

Good night guys! *hugs*

^ Thanks Lola! 😊 😃 WIll definitely continue to participate and be a part of the CC, and thanks so much for replying, I loved reading your response. I also think that the freedom to choose our path to the Lord is an integral part of Hinduism 😃

This is really random and general, but I wanted to have a discussion, so here it is:

What do you think being a Hindu is about? What does being a Hindu mean to you? 😊

Hmmm nice question....As U asked d question...I've got an idea of explaining each word of HINDU...
H- Humanity....the frst n foremost principle of Hinduism z humanity...as we believe dat "Paropkaaraay punyaay, papaay parpeednam"
The ultimate holiness is in benevolence....a true Hindu should thing abt other's welfare prior to his own😊 n who hurts any1....emotionally, physically, mentally is not a True Hindu...by hurting any1 I mean not just humans....it includes all d jeevs...whether birds, animals, each n every creature...coz a true hindu sees bnothin bt Lord in every creature...😊 any1 also includes U...its not dat U do not hurt any1 bt U hurt Urself...thts not Hinduism😳
I- Means Intellect...Intellect is not just bounded in technical n bookish knowledge...intellect is both spritual n practical alongwth science n nature😳
N-Noble. One who is Noble is a Hindu...A Hindu does not takes all d credit....he thinks dat ever bit of a moment, his very breath, his soul all is of Lord...he is nothing bt a toy in Lord's hand..n d Lord??😆..we know is a child who plays wth all d creatures n everything happens as per his will...bt what he does z for good...coz his every Leela is 'Madhuram'....Madhuradhipati rakhilam madhuram...not a single action of d Lord can harm any1...😊if it does...than its just a temporary shock...which he gives...n dat too coz he belive in us dat we CAN tackle through dis pain...😳
D-Devotion- True Hindu is a true Bhakt a true devotee...one who does not surrender himself to d Lord is not worthy of being called as a Hindu...Devotion is not just praying to d Lord everytime for Ur own welfare...or when U r in trouble...its all abt luving d Lord like Braj Gopikaas⭐️ like they never urged to irradicate their worldly sorrows.....what tehy urged was just TRUE n PURE LOVE...only LOVE....which is another name of Lord😊
U- Utility...Hindu is 1 who creates utility...again I'm not just bounding my wrds to technical utility or economic utility....by utility I mean frst of making good use of every part of Ur body...like creating eyes utility by seeing Lord face verytime...creating toungue's utility by chanting his name everytime....Mahaprabhuji ShiVallabhacharyaji says-"Sarvada sarvabhaaven bhajniyo vrajadhipah" Means we hould remember d Lord of Braj, @ every single moment"...making Ur hands utility by serving d needy ones...creating Ur legs utility by goin' on an upright way...which goes to the Lord😳
I liked your interpretation of my question and how you answered it by taking each letter of it and describing it that way 😃 👏 Everything you said was wonderful and I liked "humanity" and "noble," but most of all your section on Devotion and pure love was a pleasure to read and contemplate on 👍🏼 A Hindu of the Sanatan Dharma surrenders his intellect, mind, and emotions to the Lord and his love isn't selfish or for any benefit. Good reference to the Gopis! Thanks for such a nice response 😊

Also, my dad used to tell me that a true Hindu is not one who learns all the scriptures and mantras out there for the pure purpose of knowledge and praise, but one who learns maybe just one prayer, or one mantra, keeps it in their heart, and applies it to their daily life. I believe that all God really wants from us is for us to love him just as much as he loves us :) So when people of the Kali Yug go around and lose their decency, (girlfriend, boyfriend, inappropriate clothing, bad habits) they drift farther and farther away from God, making it harder for them to come back. I think that that is the beauty of Hinduism. Our karma depends on our actions. Everything that we get, we deserve. 😃😳 There are elders here, so if I have said something wrong, please don't refrain from telling me.
Wow, well put, Aish.👏👏👏 One of the best posts I've read yet, really very well put!😃👏 I esp liked this part of your post, which is why I quoted it.
It brings to mind the message of the Uddhav story from Krishna Leela. How Uddhav gained a lot of knowledge of scriptures and everything for the sole purpose of becoming intelligent and having people praise him for being a pundit, how he did not apply the knowledge to real life because he did not understand the true meaning of it, but how in the presence of Lord Krishna be lost everything. Lord Krishna then tells him to go to Shri Radharani and the Gopis to gain true understanding of love and devotion to God, and how with simply loving God and believing in him, one will gain all the understanding in the world which need not be written down in words.😍 And then the mere sight of Radha melts Uddhav's pride like butter and he falls at her feet for forgiveness.
The Uddhav story is one of my most favorite parts of Krishna Leela, because it shows us mere mortals who do not have the time to read message after message in the holy scriptures😳, that with pure love and devotion, we can still understand God....but even that is very hard and not possible for most humans.😭
You have inspired me to make an Uddhav siggie when I next find time. Ehem....that is when a certain person who has SK DVDs posts some good HQ pics.. ehem...ehem...😉😆
@Aish
OMG great reply! I loved reading this 😃 Everything you said was so perfect and well-said, I agree with Janaki, and from what you've said it's obvious you're a true and pure devotee as you apply the principles of a Hindu life to yours 😊
@Janaki
I also love Uddhav and the incidents involving him 😊
PS do you mean me w/the SK DVDs? 😳 Because I have them 😆
