For anyone who's still not planning on reading the books, here's a handy summary, that more detailed and down-to-earth than you might find on Wiki (I'm not taking challenges on that 😛)

For the first book:
http://www.percyjacksonbooks.com/pdfs/Lightning%20Thief%20Discussion%20Guide.pdf

For the rest, you can easily get them off here:
http://www.percyjacksonbooks.com/
--> Olympic Downloads
--> Discussion Guide (PDF)

The film is just not good enough (nor funny) but watch it if you're really desperate (or don't, we don't mind really 😊)

BTW, I love the new book already..it sounds funny and I can certainly afford some humor in life atm 😳

Yeah, I alternately call my brother 'Seaweed Brain' now (although I still prefer 'Twinkle Toes' more, from Avatar: The Last Airbender 😃) Before you start feeling sorry for him, let me tell you he calls me 'Monster' among other names 😛

So there is this Latin teacher in the book, who sounds like a very inspiring teacher.

Did you guys have a teacher who made an indelible mark in your life?? In a good way or a bad way??

Almost all of them, good and bad. But probably the most significant was my Geography teacher in 7th grade, Mrs. Bassilio, she got me writing poetry and it's the best thing ever 😊

I finished the first book and starting with the second one tomorrow 😊

"We are not fools, Percy Jackson," Mrs. Dodds
said. "It was only a matter of time before we found you out. Confess, and
you will suffer less pain."

I didn't know what she was talking about.

All I could think of was that the teachers must've found the
illegal stash of candy I'd been selling out of my dorm room. Or maybe they'd
realized I got my essay on Tom Sawyer from the Internet without ever reading
the book and now they were going to take away my grade. Or worse, they were
going to make me read the book..

In school were you ever in a position where
you were being held as a suspect for something you weren't even aware of?

Usually I was held suspect for things I was not only aware of but also orchestrated but there was one incident that sort of fit's your question...

When I was really really tiny (like in Prep, now called KG2), I won a colouring competition and the teacher told me to ask the department head which prize I should get, the big box or the small box. So I went and asked and she said the big one. I came back and told my teacher but she didn't believe me, went over to the supervisor and asked her herself, and all this with me watching (she took be along to check if I was a liar or not). She wasn't too happy when she found out that I had been telling the truth. I dunno what she had against me but I won a train set that ran backwards 😃

Exactly Nitzy ..you have few Evil Wizards but a witch by lore is evil.It is almost like a gali.
It is not fair.. even in Mythologies there are more warrior goddesses then gods.

This the best discussion of all! 😃

Women have traditionally struggled to become writers (among their other work related struggles through the ages), with many pretending to be men or writing only about men to get published; and men honestly can't write very good lead female characters because.. they just can't? Women are better at writing both and they tend to write more male characters because of the high acceptance rate still dominant among publishers and readers for male characters.

So, that's men writing male characters and women writing male characters => giving us too many male characters (but we still adore those books don't we? 😊)

Girl fantasy stories are all about flying ponies, love potions and lot's of giggling (unfortunately) but I don't think it's how it should be. It's time for change because I have never, nor will read a book like that and I don't read all out romance either. Why can't we have a character like Buffy in a book? She isn't all boo-hoo, love-love, some one save me at all. I like her.

A Hindi teacher in 7th std made me develop aversion towards Hindi. She had some personal favs and was treating others like thrash 🤢. She always picked on me telling that I wouldn't even care to wish her good morning/evening when I go to higher classes. I took Sanskrit instead of Hindi later, just in case to avoid her if she was promoted to teach us in high school, and really stopped wishing her. I learned hindi on my own by watching TV and movies 😊.

Even JK Rowling was asked to choose initials for her first name fearing that the target audience who are young boys would be discouraged to read the book of a female writer. Looks like its not just the characters in the books or comics, but also the writers are suffering equally

And Rowling pulled it off too.
And look at Hermione..she could give any wizard a run for his money.😊.
But we should pool our resources....Come up wuith names of books with Strong female characters .....only few come to mind.Man I don't remember reading a mainstream book with a strong female character:Jane Eyre was one..Vanity fair maybe
