HERE I COME WITH QUESTIONS LOLA. READY? GET SET AND GO.
Aadhe aaj kar dun aur baaki ke baad mein to kaisa rahega 😳
Q.1
Please give first 10 names of human virtues which come in your mind (starting from the one you value most ending with the least important for you). You may refer to chapter 16 of Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta (first three shlokas) for the same.
- faith
- compassion
- flexibility/open-mindedness
- courage
- optimism
- sense of humor
- patience
- fairness
- honesty
- generosity
Q.2
Please give first 5 names of human vices which come in your mind (starting from the one you hate most ending with the least concern for you). You may refer to chapter 16 of Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta (fourth shloka) for the same.
- self-pity
- bigotry
- arrogance
- jealousy
- laziness
Q. 3
State your ambitions in life:
# Professional: become an antitrust lawyer, write some books
# Non-professional: make people smile and hopefully laugh, convert as many of them to vegetarianism as possible, write some devotional poetry and touch their hearts, raise a family full of devotees
Q. 4
Please mention the things in life you value the most to which you would be able to devote your entire life very easily and also would be ready to sacrifice anything next to it. (Please maintain order from the most important to the least important as much as possible). The examples of values can be any relation or hobby or art or profession or people or creatures or any virtue of life.
my family, my faith... that's about it 😆
Q. 5
Give your views in the following Debates:
(1) What would or should you prioritize and in which situations? Love or Moral duty? Whom would or should you support? Your Beloved ones or Truth? If "Beloved ones", then don't you think you lack angle of equality and possess bias or undue favor? If "Truth", then are you so sure and confident on your wisdom that every time what you consider to be truth, happens to be truth? ('Shakti' ka Dilip Kumar aur 'Deewar' ka Shashi Kapur yaad aa gaya?)😆😆😆
The "in which situations" that I underlined is key, there are some circumstances in which moral duty is blatantly obvious - like Vibhishan's after Ravan had thrown him out - and in such situations, I hope I'd have the strength to choose dharm. But when moral duty becomes ambiguous, so would my decision. For example, put in Vasudev's situation, I don't know that I'd be able to watch my kids get killed and not fight back because I promised I wouldn't... this doesn't in any way mean that I think he was wrong, I just don't think I'm that right yet 😳
(2) After identifying the behavioral similarities (Do try it), distinguish between a merciless stone-hearted man (like terrorist) and a mentally & emotionally stable yogi (who is capable of suppressing his feelings for saving truth and has got the knowledge of the fact that soul is immortal & God is omnipresent - like the way Vashisth tries to console Dashrath just before his death & after Sumant coming back or the way Yudhisthir reacts when his 4 brothers are found dead due to poisonous water at the lake in front of Dharmaraj). If this is getting too heavy, then just follow these simple words of the debate:
Lack of emotions (Bhaavnaaviheen manushya) vs Emotional stability (Bhaavnaa par sada gyaan ka ankush)
- What are their behavioural similarities & why & how and what are there behavioural or outward appearance differences?
Thanks to the two examples you provided, it's not that hard after all 😆 If only observed for a minute or two, they may certainly seem similar in their mildness or even lack of reaction to emotional stimuli. But since this is an unfair observations, we wait a few more minutes and Vashisht takes the trouble to console Dashrath in the wisest of ways - passing on words of wisdom so that he can look at the situation differently, rather than lying to him that "yeah, don't worry, Ram's coming back in like 5 minutes!"... that's what I'd probably do 😆 The terrorist wouldn't bother with the consolation - the consolation is a product of compassion which is the primary distinguishing characteristic between him and the yogi. The Gita, the Brihandaranyaka Upanishad, and numerous other scriptures tell us that true yogis can be identified by their possession of two main virtues - detachment and compassion - which, to lesser beings, may seem mutually exclusive. The terrorist has the detachment down, but no compassion, so seeing Dashrath's condition they'd just walk away. Us regular folks can be compassionate, but we are often victims of attachment because of which we're more likely to cry with the person and not be of any real help either. It's the only the detached and compassionate yogi like Vashisht who can stay rational and console with words of wisdom which - if the person is in the mood to receive - will actually help.
(3) Is it possible to see only the positive side of all human beings? How? Try to answer practically if possible, by giving example. Is it practically sensible to see only the positive side and deliberately ignore the negative side or deliberately close the eyes about the presence of the negative sides not trying to know about it? Sapnehu nahi dekhahi pardosha - then how would we recognize and learn that this is DOSHA in that person and we must keep ourselves away from it?
Depends on how we interpret "seeing"; I don't think he means generally observing in this chaupaai - I feel that it implies judgment. It may be possible to completely close our eyes to someone's flaws/misdeeds but that would just be stupid - like Dhritrashtra with his sons. We admire Mandodari, Vibs, etc for doing just the opposite. Ram says this line to Shabri and barely a few paragraphs later comes that favorite scene of yours with Vaali in which he clearly saw his flaws in order to recount them back to him. To me, "judgment" makes more sense there... what we shouldn't do is notice their flaw and inflate our ego based on the fact that we don't possess it, thinking that "I am at least better than this person!"
(4) Is it possible to see/sense/feel/observe God in all the living creatures? How?. (Vidhyaavinay sampanne, Braahmane gavi hastini; shuni chaiv shwapaake cha, Pandita samdarshinah) How do we see God in Shakuni or Duryodhan?
It certainly is possible but it is difficult. Not so much with mytho characters though. I've used a similar rationale for Kaikeyi in previous debates, it's the audition analogy again 😆 If God simply enacted all of these leelas to teach the world a bunch of lessons, we can relate the avtaar-grahan process to the production of a movie. He chooses from the already-realized devotees who accompany him in heaven to play the various roles, which is why our bad guys are none other than Jai-Vijay, the parents are always Aditi-Kashyap, the sidekick is always Sheshnaag, the shishya is a toss-up between Surya-Indra, etc. Given this postulate, the ones who had the worst of roles on earth were probably originally the best of bhakts in heaven if they willingly flushed their good name down the toilet so that God's leela could go as planned!
But when it comes to contemporary bad guys, this rationale doesn't work as well... it is hard to think of the tyrants and murderers in this world as bhakts from heaven who are here to teach us something... but in this case, it is even more important to see God in everyone because that's the only thing that will keep us from behaving like them!
(5) Do you believe in rebirth? Why or why not? (Of course your answer I know but then the word 'BELIEVE' over here is very deep in meaning) I mean even if from your knowledge of and faith on epics, you believe in rebirth, do you actually feel or realize while doing every action that the body is just the instrument and YOU are the SOUL and are your actions actually done keeping all the time in mind your upliftment in the next birth or just the good in near future in this birth?
Because I believe in rebirth as a process by which I have a chance at forgiveness and starting fresh, I do try to keep this dichotomy-between-body-and-soul thought in mind as often as possible. This is why I value courage and tolerance so highly and hate self-pity so much, the former help in undermining the body and the latter makes us give it too much importance. However the "upliftment in next birth" implies desire from fruit, which I also hope to stay away from, so I try to weigh my actions in terms of compassion for others rather than personal rewards.
I am a bit busy these days with various responsibilities at home. Will try to keep on visiting IF. And will also try to post if I find enough time. Now I am going through previous pages of the CC (guess I have to start from page 65 😆😆 😆 ). Enjoying the Questions-Answer sessions😊...
With Best Wishes for all,
Jai Shri Krishna. Jai Shri Ram.
