Since this is the conclusion, since this was a serial which came to me out of nowhere, and then unexpectedly, it went on to hold us spellbound- almost to the point of being startled, a sort of revelation on creativity, that is thriving in sister culture, I want to write on each of those scenes from the last episode which had impacted me just as in past. So friends, for last time please tolerate my long ranting as you people remain the only company to whom I can speak about such a beautiful tale…

Arfeen-Aska: The reconciliation did happen….we sensed/liked to imagine, (in absence of any clear rebuttal), that Aska had finally understood Saba's lasting love for Arfeen as well as mitigation of his own hand in the whole tragedy…q.e.d." Arfeen I am sorry…"

Sara-Saba[1]: The significance and possible correctness of Saba's last directive is dawned to Sara with reminiscence about Saba's ever correct judgment… " your choices are always ripe and sweet….aap ko kaise pata ye fal meetha hai?" and then … "sabra ka fal meetha hota he."

Arfeen-Haider: A truly powerful scene, Haider's mature take of the whole tragedy with exquisite explanation/expectation from his father…lest you have exercised 'forgiveness'/maafi ('kshama' a central and endearing tenet of Jainism) even if you were caught in a dilemma… this has hit Arfeen directly-making him understand his own shortcoming and loving his son all the more…(we as viewers too join the applause to the character). In this, we almost see a surreal rubbing of Saba's subtle influence on Haider… [q.e.d. immediate follow up of the same concept in the next scene. i.e. Saba's discourse to Saba on concept of maafi, albeit in a different situation.]

Besides this scene explains Saba's inner hurt/ unfulfilled expectation from Arfeen's actions… "Though I was blameless here, but even if I would have been…?!"

Haider's last sentence to Arfeen- "Aurat ko bhi maaf karte…ghar, rishte ye sab tutne nahi chahiye…" assures his own forgiveness to his wife's immaturity, misplaced blow and his own hurt…

Sara-Saba[2]:

Saba:"Maaf to Takatwar karte hei…aur uska sara qasara nafe me badal gaya…" and then "….Zannat aur dozakh me farq to hota hei?"

(Samia Mumtaz continues to enthrall us with her consistent, restrained depiction of Saba's inner peace/contentment)

The scene is more significant in the sense that it has been presented as Sara's reminiscence in time of her present turmoil…pointing to her inner doubt about her own knee-jerk reactions and resulting grief…at this point she must have connected Saba's own pardon to the injurers.

Saba-Sara [3]:

Saba, "ek pyaara sa ladka aake tuze bade ghar me le jaaye"

Sara, " ye bhi kah dijiye …amir khandan se ho or tilemshuda.."

Saba, "Han WO To HEI."

Sara, " kahe na Allah Miyan se..Pyaara sa bade ghar ka ladka jaldi se bheje."

Saba, "Wo to Usne phale se Dhundh rakha HEI."

With this reminiscence, Sara clearly realizes who was in Saba's thoughts when she was expressing her wishes/blessings of a 'raajkumaar' for her daughter…

Sara-Haider: A rushed up scene but it does provide some 'resolution' to the drama. Haider remains true to his considerate nature and Sara thaws …perhaps realizing her own shortcomings and some unknown feelings springing in her heart… "… baad me socha…" regarding hurt/humiliation of Haider … When Haider says," Saba aunti aam aurat nahi thi…Allah se unka koi aisa Rishta tha… Sara tum Saba Karim nahin ho.Na hi main tumhe banane dunga." She must have immediately identified with Haider's this perception on Saba. She must have also sensed kindness in Haider as well as his bonding with her mother. … " muzse kya chahte ho?"…submitting.

Then… " ghar chale…"…and final playfulness between the two… "mein bewquf nahin hun…"… "lekin bewqufon ki sari khubiyan hein,… mein thik kar dunga."… "chhodiye mera haath…"… "…maine apni bivi ka hath pakda hei…" "Gul/tum job hi kaheti ho bilkool thik kaheti ho"… and onward to a new beginning.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

We would like to believe, with arguably considerable presence of the favorable hints, that Saba and Arfeen did save them from the faltering and preserved their marriage even if indirectly. For Arfeen's shortcoming has awakened/cautioned Haider not to repeat the mistake and made him understand Sara's turmoil and claim her as a true spouse keeping his pride aside. If in the process he does not insist on her to forgive his father immediately, he would know that healing shall happen…Saba has played more intimately on Sara, with all above mentioned reminiscences, her memories and upbringing has made Sara realize her own mistake, mellowed her from her headstrong attitude and perhaps already prepared her for a future reconciliation with Arfeen besides realizing her own tender feelings towards Haider.

So Kind Almighty has ultimately awakened both the children to correct judgments when there was a real possibility to go astray and thereby He has not let go Saba's 'sabra' in vain, listened to Arfeen's true repentance and held/completed the marriage of second generation whence the earlier one was incomplete.

P.S. please overlook the shortcomings of the language.

Friends,

Can we not have more then that? Something like your own notes and interpretations on conclusion and over all drama, kind of our own epilogue on a serial that is not going to afford us any further viewing…If that is not taxing too much of our time... a wrap up of our own.

@ Arwen…

Since you have mentioned old classics, are you going to start a new watch with a forum thread? If so, may I suggest Dhoop Kinarey? I had seen it in bits and parts many years back and I did like it then as a teen. Even today I treasure its theme Ghazal… "Raat yun dil me teri khoi hui yaad aayi…" by Nayyara Noor. What a voice! What a song..

To Sami, I have a request. Whenever you find good quality dvds or cds on this serial in American or Canadian market where one can purchase it through internet, will you please PM us the address? I hope they come out with commercial DVDs .

Then we'll wait till the lifting of the ban, as a watch with a group interaction is a multidimensional experience, enriching us all manyfold more.
Tanhaiyan... I had seen on vedeo in 90s.👏
Aanch? Andhera Ujala? sound familiar though...
btw. Dhoop kinarey was an incomplete watch and this serial has rekindled interest in it.

Every story ends when all the loose ends are tied up. But nothing of the kind happened here. The main protagonists were left high and dry by the author.
Saba leaves the family with her daughter never to return there again. She never forgives her family either. "Chalo maaf kar diya" was just lip service.......whether the words were spoken to Arfeen's family or to her own. So she was never really so detached from her past. She does find solace in her prayers and the peace that we see on her face is the peace her maker has given her when he has proved her innocence. She now has the upper hand but she doesn't crow about it. She moves away. Far away from the madding crowd. She is happy to be with herself and her daughter. Yet somewhere in her heart she pines for Arfeen. Even though she realises that her boss is Arfeen she stays on with the job. Hence she covers her face to remain incognito but close to him. The bonus she receives here is the breezy yet sweet relationship she shares with Haider. She is happy to see that he has grown up to become as sensitive as his father and is yet different. She remains in employment with them until her death. Why? Just because the job was good and paid well? I don't think so.
But these nuances are never dwelt upon by the author. These are my observations.

Saba dies.
She has been put on the pedestal by the author since she contrived the story thus.
My main interest in the story was ........ What happens to Arfeen?
This character has been so beaten up in the story that he is a sad sack throughout. A man grovelling for forgiveness and one who burns in the fires of repentance. What happens to him in the end? Does he remain broken hearted until he dies? Or does he spend the rest of his life weeping at Saba's tomb? Does he find solace at all or does he keep paying heavily for one grave mistake he made? How long will he bleed?
Haider may have reprimanded him and told him off about the way he had treated "Saba Auntie". But he forgave him because he loved him. He saw the good side of his father. Did Saba too see this good side? How would we as viewers know? And why did Haider forgive his father? We shall never know the depth of his reasoning for that.

Two three episodes were devoted to Sara's anger and hurt. She ran away. She couldn't face the cruel world. What was she going to achieve? I couldn't believe that Saba's daughter could be such a ninny.
Sara was refusing to tackle the situation. Okay she has always been sheltered by her mother. She stays firm and angry with Haider, his father and fate itself. Yet ten minutes of conversation and she capitulates and decides to go back. What convinced her to do so? But she says she will not forgive his father ..........
Did she ever wonder why her mother sent her to the very man whom she has begun to hate with such intensity? She tells her not to go to anyone else but him. Does she never stop to think why? There is no end to this story. It just sank into the quicksand.
If Sammy says the conversation betw Sara and Haider was much longer, what the hell did they say to each other? Mayb the conversation was stupid anyway and there were no more salient points to enhance!!
