@ Sarah - Actually yaar, the major problem here is the bomb blasts! Every now and then there's a bomb blast so public gatherings are no longer considered safe.. 3-4 years back, I went to a Strings concert with 2 of my cousins at some auditorium.. It used to be safe then but not now.. What I have a grudge against is that the concert is being held in my college and our principal assured us fool-proof security but my mom is still quite scared of letting me go alone and none of my cousins are willing to go.. So, I'm pretending that even I'm not interested when I actually am! 😆

About the girls who attended concerts, even I have no idea :-S Waiting for Mash to reveal the details.. 😆 Coz I was always allowed to go out with friends or cousins or whatever but not now due to security reasons..

Oh, I see ... yeah, in that case I wouldn't step out of my house either if I were living there!

I can see your mom's point now ... I mean fool-proof or otherwise, you can't really be sure when it comes to bomb blasts in Pakistan. Every other day I hear on the news how there was a blast in public places in Pakistan/ Afghanistan/ Iraq. No matter how tight the security is, these maniacs would still blow the place up if they wanted to. So I wouldn't let my kid go if I were your mom ... lol

It's sad what Pakistan seems to have become. I've only been there on vacations but it wasn't that unsafe up until a few years ago. *shakes head*

^ LMAO really? This is what you call the height of cheapness. Can't they afford another set? CMG ka basketball court hi istemaal kar lete to show Samrat and Suhani playing BB as kids!

Lol yeah I know she's right but I wanted to go.. *sigh* But I didn't argue because I'm also way scared of all this stuff and wouldn't let my mom dwell in tension while I'm enjoying the concert.

The bomb blasts are so common here nowadays specially in Peshawar that when we hear there's ablast we're like "kahan hua" and then forget about it.. Yep Pakistan has become really unsafe.. half of my cousins have refused to visit us because of these security fears and all..

You know when HP7 was being released, they had this huge function here at a mall here.. and everyone was going there dressed as witches and wizardy type.. My brother said itna bara event hai.. kuch na kuch tou hoga, dekhna.. and sure enough just 4 hours before the book release.. there was a news that a bomb has been found in a car near the mall so the whole book release was cancelled.. and everyone got the book by courier..

WTF, they didn't spare even a book release event? That must have sucked for everyone who was planning to attend it. It was just a Harry Potter book for crying out loud ... it was not based on politics or religion!

The last time I went to Pakistan was back in 2005 ... I really don't want to visit that place ever again ... I barely have any close relatives to visit anyway. All of my parents' siblings are settled in the US, and the only uncle that's left in Karachi will immigrate to Canada next year. So I'll probably have no reason to visit Karachi again. It's not that I have anything against the country but all the security issues terrify me. I guess people who live there are used it to it, so they're braver ... lol

Exactly! What irritated us most was that only kids and the younger brigade was going to attend it and it wasn't even something bad. But I guess, they just don't want us to enjoy.

I understand your issue Sarah. All my cousins are terrified at the thought of visiting here.. they're just trying to convince their parents to move there so that they don't have to come back here. But like you said, we're braver well not braver actually.. I think many of us have gotten used to it.. So we can live here.. I, for one, am never leaving Karachi at all! Come what may.. 😆

Your attachment to Karachi is sweet ... I can understand why you don't want to move away. You grew up there and as they say, home is where the heart is. I do hope that things will get better there with time.

Btw that reminds me, I read the post where you were talking about an aunt of yours who's hell bent on finding rishtas for you so that you could move to Canada and be close to her ... does she not realize that you are just 17? Yeh aunties bhi na ... lol

I do have a question though - if all of your family members wanted to move out of Pakistan in order to pursue better opportunities, would you want to move or would you rather stay in Karachi?

LOL Sarah, these aunties are just like that.. and that thing wasn't even recent. She told me that about a year ago or something.. 😆 My mom was really pissed when she heard that.. 😆 and my dad told her doctor banne tak tou koi naam bhi na le shaadi ka.. and I was like Yayy! 😆 So since then she has kept quiet coz when my dad gets angry everyone shuts up! 😆

I guess in that situation, I would have to move with them coz I can't live without my family as well. I cried like an idiot when my parents went for Umrah for about 20 days so I can't even imagine staying without them.. 😆 But then, even my parents don't want to leave Pakistan.. its my elder brother who has this "dream" of moving away from Pakistan..

Woohoo! Go dad! :P

Aww, you cried when your parents went for Umrah? Even I was on the verge of tears when my mom went to Pakistan last year ... but that's more because I was afraid she might die or be injured in a blast ... lol *embarrassed muh*

I have to go now ... it was really nice having this convo with you. Take care! *hugs*
