She used to play lead roles in silent era of Hindi cinema and was a prolific actress…and a real beauty. I never knew this, I only remember her for her wicked mother in law kind of characters. I was reading this snippet which said that in 1942, during the shooting of a film, she was slapped by her co-actor, which resulted in facial paralysis and a defect in her left eye which could never be treated! Thanks to this incident she had to abandon lead roles and switch to character roles… What I found amazing was that she bore no grudges against the co-actor at all and took everything gracefully…😊
