Kajol is one, who doesn't give a darn, but personally my favorite is Nandita Das, who didn't even start in films until she was 30. And she still looks the same as she did back then in her early 40s. But then she has never cared about Bollywood and can be the most stunning person in a room with a cotton sari.

Soha, we may be hypocrites. But we are forced to conform to standards. If we didn't, then what would happen? For example, I don't wear the so-called mommy jeans though they are more comfortable. Women's bodies moreso are seen as public property and vessels to be examined, just the way it is. Like I said the other day, the cult of domesticity has been replaced by the cult of beauty.

How's your basement buddy?

*Zainu and I in the middle of a deep conversation*

Rox: Zainu, do you think Obama is a good president?

Zainu: I think he has great plans, but I don't like the fact he's going to attack Pakistan

*More deep and intellectual conversation*

*Pause*

Zainu: Do you think Simi is still in the basement?

😆

@ Sonu, where you be?! And did you tell your folks yet that you're married?

@ Nimmi, congrats on the job, though it's bad news for us!

That is where the problem lies.. actresses are not even meant to act in most movies.. they are just like a decoration - it's pathetic! Why blame the actresses? Heck, I can't even blame Katrina because the audience accepts her and so do her producers/directors. The main focus is always on the actor; they don't cast a talented actress opposite him because he might get overshadowed and you don't want that.

Nimmi, I will check it out. I still have that list in my agenda; I will try to get it this weekend for sure!

Why did Aaja Nachle not do well and every Akki movie seems to do well? Guess what, he has more box-office power. Despite people claiming to love Madhuri, will they solely go to see a movie for her? Nope.

You stole my thoughts. Not all the time, this is the case, but most mainstream Bolly movies(that I don't watch anyways) seem to have females as just eyecandy. Housefull will be a film like this to come. Why is Meghan Fox successful? We all know the reason. *winks* Though movies like Zubeidaa and Fiza are my favorite Karisma movies and probably the only ones I like of hers, how many people have watched them?

Aamir is doing 3 Idiots Soha, and I have mixed feelings about it based on what it is being adapted from.

Kully, I agree.
You see, it really starts to look like a male oriented industry because of such issues. An example would be "Dor"...that movie was fantastic but it didnt gather much recognition from what I know. You know what it lacked? The so called glamour and action!
The audience doesnt pay much heed to the acting...as long as the actresses looked good and acted all pretty, they'll enjoy the movie and the next thing we know the movie becomes a superhit! WOW!

I forgot what actress that said this, but she was the same age as Johnny Depp and was cast to play his mom in a movie. Or the fact I watched this really funny round table with Amy Poehler and Sarah Silverman and others and they said they all went into this audition to play Jonah Hill's mother. Or Christina Applegate(isn't she beautiful) wasn't allowed to be on the cover because she was over 35? I mean there is no point in crying about it, but I mean there are great actresses like Mary Louise Parker and Julia Louis Dreyfus, who look like they are 30 and fantastic actresses too yet have to struggle to find roles for themselves, don't know but yeah it is an interesting thing to examine I think.

Well, there's no doubt that the roles decrease as the actress age, but I don't think it's too pravalent in Hollywood these days. I mean, how old is Meryl Streep? She's still recieving meaty roles and earned her umpteenth Oscar nomination recently. Ditto for Nicole Kidman, who is in her early 40's and has got projects lined up after another, including one with our darling Wong Kar Wai (L). Plus, Jenniffer Aniston is always on magazine covers, and how old is she? In her 40's, I believe.

I think Bollywood is worse off. The shelf life has been reduce to 35 or less. As we were discussing yesterday, actresses are replaced like clothes, and must work really hard to remain in the limelight (hence Rani Mukherjee's 'I forgot my pants' dress). Roger Ebert said in his review of Chandni Chowk To China, that in Bollywood, either all actresses are models, or playing mothers. 😕

Speaking of Chandni, WHERE THE HELL IS SHE?
