I forgot what actress that said this, but she was the same age as Johnny Depp and was cast to play his mom in a movie. Or the fact I watched this really funny round table with Amy Poehler and Sarah Silverman and others and they said they all went into this audition to play Jonah Hill's mother. Or Christina Applegate(isn't she beautiful) wasn't allowed to be on the cover because she was over 35? I mean there is no point in crying about it, but I mean there are great actresses like Mary Louise Parker and Julia Louis Dreyfus, who look like they are 30 and fantastic actresses too yet have to struggle to find roles for themselves, don't know but yeah it is an interesting thing to examine I think.
Well, there's no doubt that the roles decrease as the actress age, but I don't think it's too pravalent in Hollywood these days. I mean, how old is Meryl Streep? She's still recieving meaty roles and earned her umpteenth Oscar nomination recently. Ditto for Nicole Kidman, who is in her early 40's and has got projects lined up after another, including one with our darling Wong Kar Wai (L). Plus, Jenniffer Aniston is always on magazine covers, and how old is she? In her 40's, I believe.
I think Bollywood is worse off. The shelf life has been reduce to 35 or less. As we were discussing yesterday, actresses are replaced like clothes, and must work really hard to remain in the limelight (hence Rani Mukherjee's 'I forgot my pants' dress). Roger Ebert said in his review of Chandni Chowk To China, that in Bollywood, either all actresses are models, or playing mothers. 😕
Speaking of Chandni, WHERE THE HELL IS SHE?
