What do you think of the recent ruling and advancements of the LGBT community and how do you think this impacts you and perhaps your own peers and neighbors?
I think its a good decision on Goernment's part to scrap the rule against gays as everybody should have the right to decide their own sexual preference. I dont think this will affect me because I am ok with the decision and not an orthodox person who will keep objecting. I just want to say Live and Let Live !
Is recognition alone enough or do legal rights of partners need to be granted and how should this be done? Do you think legal recognitions alone enough or should the process be started in the legislature/parliament? i.e. Several countries have travel bans for people with AIDS.
Legal right do matter. Everybody should have same or equal rights be it straight or gay !!!
Despite legal protections, do you think the attitudes and the systematic discrimination will ever go away? And have you seen attitudes of people you know change or remain consistent on the issue and how?
As considering the condition today, the attitude of people is not going to change soon. The INDIAN society is not ready to accept this kind of a change. There will be discrimination against gays and the society will throw tantrums. Also family pressure will force these people to stay in closet or forcefully live a dual life.
And are marriage rights necessary? Some believe it is against their beliefs and way of life. So should it just be a system of civil unions that do allow for some financial benefits due to legal recognition or should it be marriage due to inherent advantages that brings in terms of taxes and the status symbol it is in society?
Marriage rights do matter , i think. Honestly speaking, I feel it a bit weird imagining a boy marrying boy or a girl marrying girl (like as per the tradition and all). But yeah they should be given legal rights(like wedding certificate) as a couple and all the financial, economical and social benefits that any straight couple currently enjoy !!!
1.Finally in all I would like to say to those who think its wrong, GUYS please look into your own matters as life is short and there are too many problems in our life to be solved within that short period.
2.Let others live the way they want, unless they aren't bothering you.
3.These are my views, if anybody feels offended then either close your eyes or press Alt + F4 . 😆
I love the last line about pressing Alt&F4. There are a lot of Tech wizards in this CC.😆 For sure, I think that attitudes will take time to change. For centuries, LGBT people have had a subculture that they had to conduct in secret. The Stonewall Riots in NYC in 1969 was where the modern gay pride movement started as one hotel they frequented in Greenwich Village where raids happened by police got raided and they just got tired of being beaten and forced to hide who they were. So obviously, many say it is the Western influence corrupting the young minds in India. At least that is probably what Baba Ramdev thinks. Obviously, they would like their kids to be traditional and probably force them into what is considered socially acceptable. That is a big thing in Indian society for everyone. Differences and unique qualities are usually frowned upon. Since I think it is about 10% of the population that is estimated to be homosexual, since it is not common people are more likely to shun it. The shroud of secrecy is seen as better than acknowledging the challenge. It will take time, but I think gradually, having the issue forced to be in people's consciousness will help gradually ease toleration if not necessarily acceptance.😃
Thanks for sharing your views, Ishan.👏
