In fact, there were some states in the U.S. that still had sodomy on the books as being illegal in the south. Since 2003, gay people are allowed to pursue relationships of course, but they are still fighting for the right to have financial and partner benefits throughout the land so they will be able to see their partners in the hospital or be apart of their wills or seek insurance benefits.
It is still a work in progress. And Obama's lack of movement on the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy in the military is telling. But I know the economy is more important and civil rights legislation must come later. *sigh and eyeroll*
