I am a Muslim and in Islam polygamy is allowed but NOTTTT encouraged. There is a strict restriction for a man who's going to take another wife such as: if he is not FAIR to both his wives then he will be answerable to God. Now that's a very strict restriction for a practicing Muslim. But I do believe that sometimes polygamy CAN work in real world but I am not talking about one man with 20 wives like the Mormons. In Bosnia when the war happened, the enemies killed most the men of a certain village. Somebody who was doing social work there told me this story. That village was full of women and only had a handful of men. He said that the situation was so bad that everytime he would go there with all the supplies, women would come and ask him to marry. Also, in about hundred years or so, there is definitely going to be more women than men. so then if there's only one man for one women, what are the other women going to do? This is a very serious issue which is going to creepy up in near times.

I think the answer whether it should be allowed or not really depends on the situations. It should'nt be done for fun because marriage is a responsibility.
