The True FriendSharon was behaving quite odd from the time she reached back home from college. Avantika was worried. She knew she wouldn't share it with her. Even though her mom was open minded, the fear of being judged by her always prevailed in Sharon's heart.
Avantika called Mahima,Sharon's best friend, home, so that she can find out the reason behind her queer behaviour.
Mahima came home and assured avantika that she will make sure Sharon is fine.
Mahima went up to Sharon's room only to find the whole room in a mess. The view in front of her wasn't a pleasant one.
She sighed and closed the door behind her quickly before anyone else could note the convulse state of the room. Mahima walked up to her best friend. She sat next to her on the bed and placed her hand on her shoulder.
"You just can't listen right?"
Mahima's voice was firm.
"I wish you could understand what I'm going through"
Sharon stated blankly.
"Oh gosh! Sharon! Dude, you're acting like a recreant figure. Don't make a it such a huge thing. You're overreacting."
Saying so Mahima started picking up the broken vase and threw it in the dustbin. Sharon stood up and walked to her friend.
Mahima looked at her and understood what she needed the most at that moment. A hug. She hugged her friend and Sharon cried her heart out. Hearing her friend cry and to see her bestie wither in pain, made mahima feel hollow.
She knew it was fate which was being cantankerous with Sharon. She wished she could do something but she too was helpless.
It was night, mahima was still in Sharon's house. Sharon was sharing all her thoughts and mahima was a being a keen listener.
"He usually was quite ornery"
sharon stated.
"His acts were pervasive."
Mahima added on.
"Not always"
Sharon turned sharply,her tone raised.
"You can never move on, can you?"
"I'm sorry"
Sharon's tone was contrite.
"Omg I'm incapacitated by your words. You're actually saying sorry to your best friend."
Such dramatic comments always made Sharon smile cutely at her bestie.
"Oh my god! I'm the one in pain, and you just wouldn't stop behaving like an actor who has escaped from a Shakespeare's play. And by the way do you even know what incapacitated means?"
Sharon asked chuckling.
"Obviously no, it just sounded fancy, so I used it"
mahima roared with laughter and then tickled Sharon, so that she too gives in, and finally it happened. Sharon laughed too.
Avantika was passing by and hearing her daughter laugh, made her lips carve into a smile. She knocked on the door.
Sharon started panicking, her room was looking disastrous. Mahima seemed very cool. She stood up to open the door.
"What's wrong with you? I'm sure it's mom! She can't see my room like this?"
Sharon was anxious.
"Oh lord! Stop behaving like a namby-pamby. Allow me I'll handle it."
Sharon was standing startled, she kept staring at her oh-so intellectual friend with curiosity, as to what was she going to do.
Mahima opened the door to half and hid the other half by standing next to the door.
"Is everything alright?"
Avantika asked apprehensively.
"Oh yes aunty!"
Mahima answered.
"What are you girls up to?"
Sharon became jittery and tired to find a hiding place.
"Aunty you really wanna know? Are you ready and strong enough to bear the truth?"
Avantika was getting scared and Sharon was cursing her friend.
"Mahima, dear, you're scaring me."
Avantika's voice was cracking.
"Aunty we are watching Justin bieber shirtless"
Mahima dramatically exclaimed. Avantika sighed in relief and pulled mahima's cheeks. Simultaneously Sharon smacked her forehead. Avantika left the place and mahima locked the door.
Mahima laughed her heart out looking at a dazed Sharon.
"Your face"
she was guffawing.
"Oh shut up! You little"
Sharon muttered. Mahima jumped on her bed and started singing
"baby baby baby oh"
Sharon couldn't help but laugh at her friend. She was such a humorist. Mahima dropped down and held Sharon's hand and started waltzing with her making her smile.
Mahima was a true friend. She loved seeing Sharon happy. But she wasn't alien to all the happenings of her life. She knew everything and very well knew, that Sharon has to face many more darker nights, for that perfect bright morning.
Both of them didn't realise when they went into deep slumber. The alarm rang conveying it was time for the day to start. Mahima bided bye to her friend and Sharon decided to clean her room.
While doing so her eyes traced across a diary. She took it in her hand, and placed it in her cupboard with utmost care. That diary was her life. Only she knew its contents.
After cleaning up her room, it was time for her to freshen up and leave for college. She reached college. And straight away walked inside the classroom. She placed her bag down and turned up to only find him standing there.
"Oh, hello! You here?"
Sharon enquired. That scar was very distracting to her.
"Yes me, hope you didn't forget I'm your classmate sharon?"
He answered.
"Oh no no, not like that."
Sharon tried covering up.
"I just wasn't paying attention."
Sharon spoke.Swayam gave a faint smile and turned to walk towards his seat. His wallet fell down. Sharon picked it up and said
"hey, excuse me!"
He turned back. Sharon handed over the wallet and smiled.
"It's swayam? I guess that's the name I own and not hey?"
Swayam spoke sarcastically.
"ya I know that! Sorry?"
Sharon almost whispered.
"Oh it's ok."
Swayam smiled and sat in his seat. Sharon went back to her seat, she sat down and spoke to herself.
"Swayam"
her eyes were as a reflex to that word, became moist.
