Hello fellow Homo sapiens,

I am neck deep in studies, and boards are approaching soon-er. And yet I had this piece on my laptop for ages, and every time i saw it, I itched to change it again, and again. So, it was decided that I might as well put it up here, for my own sanity.

This one has been inspired by havokhotline, who is officially off the forums. Anyhoo, I wanted to mention her, as I feel I kind of wrote along the lines of her piece.

I'd be happy if you drop in your feedback, rest, your choice.

Ciao!

P.S: I am not sending out PMs, have been busy to do that. Spread the word if you can.

*Edited* (13th April)

I have converted this into a OS series, because the second one I posted is pretty much unconnected to the first. and I guess, there should be more, though I don't promise.

One.

"Swayam Shekhawat, you are a jerk of the first order."

Sharon muttered. Her grouse was that her economics professor had compelled them to work together on a project. It was a kind of psychology-economics combined project. And the apple-of-her-eye not, was from psychology.

Just when she had decided to put away all her hatred for him aside, and put an effort to cooperate, he had conveniently refused to reply to her messages.

"I fear I may slaughter him the next time I see him, Mr. goody two shoes. He is going to see the death of me."

I am a little occupied right now, will talk in college tomorrow,
Sam.

And that was the end of it.

***

"You have a minute?"

Sharon looked up to see Swayam standing over her head, miffed.

"I am a little occupied right now, can we talk later." Sharon reiterated his message.

"Fine by me. Whenever you are free from your work, let me know, I am in the library. And that is, if you feel our project is important enough for you. Its externals you see." He snapped.

Sharon tried to refute but was stopped by his hand.

"slime ball".

***

" FDI helps us to access the foreign market. It reduces cost of production."

Why, Why, WHY?

"Yes Ms. Raiprakash? Is there are any problem?"

Sharon looked up from her doodling and her pencil broke. She did not realize her outburst was so loud. Only Swayam Shekhawat was able to bring this side of her. Uncanny anger and something else.

Sharon gasped as she saw everybody's eyes on her. She shook her head in no and muttered a few colorful expletives to a certain someone.

***

"What's with you Sharon? All okay?"

"Sim. I'm fine. Just a little concerned about my group project with that dimwit."

Sharon sipped her coffee as her fingers simultaneously worked to type a to-the-point,you-better-get-it-straight email to her kiss arse partner.

To: Swayam Shekhawat
From: Sharon Raiprakash

Tomorrow, 9am. Rehearsal hall.
Bring your stuff.

NO EXCUSES.

Bitching.. Coffee... Snacks..
That's how the night was spent.

To: Sharon Raiprakash
From: Swayam Shekhawat

Okay.

"the nerve of the man."

***

As Sharon entered the college twenty minutes to 9, she was surprised to hear music blaring from inside the rehearsal hall. She entered to see Swayam practicing.

He was doing a fast paced hip hop number.

She never thought that he was a hip-hop kind of person. She always associated him to freestyle.

And she hated to admit that he was good.

"Hey. How long have you been standing there?"

"Uh."

***

"Moron."

"What happened Sharon?"

Rey stood appalled. Sharon and him had been discuss cultural activities with the whole team, and Sharon, unlike herself, was not paying attention to the meeting.

Her mind was being a jerk and going back to the uncouth rendezvous with the person who's name she dare say or think.

"Nothing dude. Just. Nothing. Anyhoo. Guys we really are at a loss of time. Let's just get started. Sim, are the hoardings ready?"

"Shar. Where are you lost. We were just discussing that since the hoardings could not be printed, we are going to meet up at tomorrow at your place and make them on our own. And you said yes to it" Nilesh replied instead of Simmi.

"We decided what? I mean of course we decided this. Let's hurry up then."

Her mind wandered to where she was supposed to be tonight.

Shit. What am I going to do?

******

As Sharon entered Swayam's place, she was greeted with an unpleasant sight. To normal people it appeared to be okay, and maybe, cute or something. But no. She was Sharon. Hopelessly And helplessly in love, not.

"Hi. Sorry to keep you waiting. And don't worry, I'll just tie him up in the corner of the room, and he won't say anything."

With that Swayam led his 3 foot, golden retriever to the end of the hall and tied him up. One thing that made Sharon jump like a banshee in fear was him (the dog of course).

"So. I have thought of a few topics we can work on. We could maybe look at commodity culture and fuse it in with phenomenon of creation of needs in humans. Or we could look at perfectionism and how it is being advocated in the advertisement and per say the entire entertainment industry. Um. Yes. That's about it. I have kind of done a bit of background research on both of them and how can we look at the two perspectives. Do you have any other ideas?"

Sharon stared point blank at Swayam as he finished talking.

"What makes you think that I am going to agree to anything or any idea you suggest?"

Sharon was expecting an irate Swayam to start spewing fumes at her, but to her surprise rather disappointment, he just smiled at her.

"Well my bad. I had assumed you weren't paying any attention to this forbidden project. So I thought I could make things easier for both you and me. I know you can't stand the sight of me, and the feeling is highly mutual. Anyhoo. Now that you have ideas, you can pitch'em in. We shall go ahead with them. I have no problems."

Sharon looked at him puzzled. This so was not him. She wanted him to be adamant on getting his topic to be worked on, and not give her a way in. The truth is. She never really had a topic in mind. She just wanted to get into an argument of a sort so that she could rise up from the blunders of the previous morning.

"You know what. Since you already have done extensive research on your topics, we might as well just go on with it."

"Cool. I'll bring in my papers."

Sharon controlled the urge to punch him on his face as he moved to get his papers, not before giving her a smirk.

*****

Sprawled on her bed with three empty mugs of coffee and one half way down, Sharon read Swayam's research papers.

With a very heavy heart she concluded that his work was going to earn them extra credits. His research was extensive and great. No good.

She read and re-read them to find a mistake but could not find any. By the end of it she kind of knew which line had which word and where his handwriting changed and how.

Her head had started to ache as she had never even studied her own notes so many times.

"There!"

*****

A few corrections.

Canteen, 9am.

Sharon made sure not to meet him in the rehearsal hall this time. She knew he practiced every morning from 7-9 and polished his dance. And to prevent herself from making a fool of herself in front of him yet again, its better they meet in the canteen.

He was usually free from 9-9:45, after which he visited the library and 10 his classes started. So 9, was a good time.

"Why do I know that freak's timetable?"

Pulling the blanket over her head, she slept.

****

"Over all its a fairly well written research. I glanced over it once and you seem to know your topic well. So I really don't think there is a need to change the topic. But there is a mistake that I found. Here you said that commodity culture is on the increase and this leads to creation of needs in human of sorts. But at the same time you contradict saying that the needs of the people gets fostered with the commodity and the culture is on a decrease. How can that happen?"

He just looked at her with a brow raised and that smirk came back on his face.

"My bad. I was talking to a friend while writing that part. I'll change it. Any other thing, ma'am?"

How about I break your teeth.

That's it..

I don't know how it turned out, but I needed it to get out of my system.
Chances are I might continue, though not decided.

Thoughts?

EDITED

Sorry for editing late. Was caught up with exams.
The writing was very crisp and inviting. To be frank, I had a good laugh while reading it.
Sharon's annoyance regarding her partner and Swayam's blatant responses were nicely penned.
I guess you should continue if time permits :)

Great job.

Cheers
