The train lurched past the hills, the rain lashing at its windows. She gripped her seat tightly as the cold air instilled fear in her. She gazed upon her co-passenger and saw him deep in sleep. A small smile crept on her face. Looking at his face at that moment brought a sense of relief upon her. Somewhere she believed he would be there with her to push away her fears. Soon the rain mellowed down and the train's motion turned smooth. She relaxed and lied back on her seat admiring the man in the seat across her. A slight smile was stuck on his face and his face emanated pure innocence as he slept on, ignorant to the emotions building up inside the lady opposite to him.
She was reminded of how he had frozen the second his eyes had fell on her, how she herself had too. They both had experienced something new that instant. And the time they had spent together on the train had made them rediscover themselves. She wondered if the emotions going through her were mutual for him too. A sense of breathlessness took over her as the thought of a possible future overtook her. Was she logical in what she thought? Could it be possible?
He could see her in his dreams, laughing her heart out, dancing in the rain. She looked like an angel, his angel. He was totally smitten by her, if only he knew why. She seemed like memory to him. Something he knows but has forgotten. The smile on his face grew as he thought about her. Out of the blue, the train gave an unpleasant lurch, jolting him out of his dreams. He looked around groggily to see her shivering, rubbing her palms on her arms to keep herself warm. Another vision of him and her playing in the snow hit him that very second. He wondered if he had gone crazy. Why else would he visualise him and her together, romantically linked? She let out an audible gasp which brought him to his senses. He stood up and sat beside her, wrapping both of them in the blanket. She scuttled towards him and wrapped her arms around him for warmth, losing herself in the familiar scent. Her touch sent shocks through his being and he was hurtled into a tornado of memories. Many things came back to him. Things which he had lost years ago.
She buried herself in his chest as the past memories threatened to break her once more. He had been so ruthlessly snatched from her, every trace of her had been erased form his soul. She had spent years in misery trying to accept the fact. And every effort went in vain the second he stood in front of her today. She realised this closeness was short lived and wondered if she could let go once more.
"Sharon?"
Hearing his aghast voice, she looked up shocked. And then the realization hit her like a storm followed by the warmth of a happiness.
She had yearned to hear the words from him for the past few years. But the look on his face and that glint in his eyes now; they were louder than words.
